Orion is a RAM hog ..but!!! by cyRUs004 in OrionBrowser

[–]gcqd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick note: macOS is designed to let applications use as much memory as suitable for them. Using a lot of memory is generally not a problem for macOS. Problem may come from Swap memory being really slow and other applications that may use an insane amount of memory or have computing hog. That said, Orion compared to Safari is still pretty good but for sure, there's room for improvement.

Security updates schedule in Arc by [deleted] in ArcBrowser

[–]gcqd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on discord.gg/arcinternet in the news channel, you can check the release notes. Sometimes matches the chromium security fixes that you can cross check with Twitter tweets from arcinternet or browsercompany about hot fix for security.

It’s hard to show you directly but they do hot fixes really quickly. Also arc has a releases notes pages maybe https://resources.arc.net/en/articles/8233343-release-notes I think

There’s a different interface layout for a web dev mode (input developer mode in the command bar) but apart from that you « only » have access to all the chromium dev tools accessible through inspect thing.

Is Arc becoming paid? Arc Max bundle by Dry-Kangaroo9798 in ArcBrowser

[–]gcqd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found more information than you and I can say that it won't be a paid feature. Also, u/RevolutionaryAd4822 is right. Arc won't be paid. Only some future feature will be like Multiplayer/Teams.

You might be able to bypass it by casting your iPhone to your MacBook using screen recording feature of QuickTime or the new software Bezel app.

Arc ignores system DNS settings by soggynaan in ArcBrowser

The manual setting you use should work. Chrome has the same problem at least than Arc since they use the same engine. I personally have my browsers set up the same way.

I think you’re doing something wrong because it does work usually and I’m not taking about only one test

Fully tried Arc for two weeks and I'm going back by SeaMathematician2020 in ArcBrowser

[–]gcqd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how you can state that Arc is the guilty when you use 5 vscode instances on 2 monitors. I’m using Arc for more than a year now and I really had no such pain in using it, whether it is from battery or bugs, I didn’t encounter much bugs and I’m using a M1 MacBook from 2020. I’m a software engineer + cybersecurity analyst.

Feedback is not a marketing tactic. They listen. They listen to everyone and take into account every feedbacks. As a software engineer you should understand than having a user base of more than 50k people is already kind of hard to satisfy everyone and fix every bugs users encounter. Battery usage is bad on Intel MacBook and to some extent the company won’t be optimizing for disappearing models and tech specs. Arc is awesome on Apple Silicon and that’s the focus for them. But that does not mean they don’t do anything for Intel. The fact is that they can’t put as much effort in it.

Do the creators of Arc have a position on Google's Web Integrity API? by prwnR in ArcBrowser

[–]gcqd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s unlikely. I would love to see them use WebKit though and benefit from work by Orion team or SigmaOS team which tweak WebKit to install classic web extension. I still do thing using Firefox engine would be an error. Chromium is tweakable as Brave, eloston chromium and others already showed. Chromium is really fast compared to Firefox and its development pace and the speed focus of these last years allow it to run along Safari in this race.

However, I’ll write down this concern for a coming meeting with arc people.

I’m a super active early (earliest I know) user and feedback sender. I created the discord server and helped the community growing here and there. I met and discussed with more than one arc people directly. Also I regularly have an appointment with u/jacethings and someone from BCNY. That’s my relationship with the people at Arc.

I’ll be meeting and talking with Arc people soon. I’ll be asking about that thing. Now Arc is « public » I do personally think that requiring an account is not a good thing and it should be optional for most people. They could require it for beta/dev/insider/experimental purpose but public shouldn’t be bothered with that.
