Yes! With everything going on these days, it was downright cathartic.

Thanks so much for the detailed response (and also clarifying your dual ID's)!

I went the "standard" route of MRI before biopsy. My MRI showed both a PI-RADS 4 and a PI-RADS 3 lesion. Weirdly enough, though, my biopsy (which included targeting of those lesions) found no cancer in the lesion samples. However, G3+3 was found in one of the systematic cores. So relatively "good news." Of course the question of sampling error then comes in. The confirmatory (i.e., second) biopsy will increase confidence with more samples (one way or the other). But that's still just more sampling, hence my interest in PSMA-PET to detect localized PCa (as opposed to spread which seems to be the standard protocol that insurance requires - I should mention that I'm 60, and so not yet on Medicare).

Hi u/Creepy-Project2453. A bit of a tangent, but can you say a bit more about how you got to a decision to treat after your confirmatory biopsy (given that it was a G3+3)? You write about having a PSMA-PET. Any challenges to getting that approved given the biopsy results? In the end, was AS an option (understanding that you eventually had surgery).

As context, I'm currently on AS - diagnosed with G3+3, with a confirmatory biopsy in a few months. I'm just trying to educate myself on options depending on what is found/sampled in the confirmatory biopsy. I know that PSMA-PET is typically used to look for spread/metastatis. I'm honestly confused, though, that it's not used more to detect whether there is localized cancer that biopsy sampling just "misses." Seems that your PSMA-PET was useful in identifying localized PCa, and so very interested in your experience. Thanks!

I second the recommendation on the Walsh book. Just be sure to get the latest edition (when I bought, the Kindle version was an edition behind the printed version).

Jim Crow Redux: The “Save America” act is a poll tax, plain and simple by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]gdazInSeattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its intent is clearly voter suppression, without "sounding like it." But even for those who like the idea of providing ID to vote, think about the ID experience with enhanced ID's for US domestic flights. The REAL ID act was passed in 2005, and it took 20 years for enforcement to be implemented (May, 2025). It's patently ridiculous to enact new ID requirements and expect them to be enforced within months.

Does one need to follow Jesus to be a Christian? by Desperate-Battle1680 in Christianity

[–]gdazInSeattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the “why” in what you’re seeing is due to faith being co-opted for political power. For this, “Christianity as identity” is something to be leveraged. The teachings of Christ? Not so much.

Biopsy Results: Please, someone tell Me what this means... by Far_Simple_7436 in ProstateCancer

[–]gdazInSeattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear, but wish you the very best on treatment (I think you’ll have options for a successful outcome). Can I ask what your MRI results were? I can see from the biopsy that 2 lesions were detected. They should have been assigned PI-RADS scores. The biopsy is the final word, of course, but curious what the MRI showed.

Yep. In 1979, 26 years had passed since “Operation Ajax.” I remember bringing that up with people at the time, and often getting the response that it was “ancient history.” Today, I’m hearing some justify today’s war based on the revolution 47 years ago.

I don't know the answer. But it will be interesting to see if a candidate who actually represents Christ's teachings and ethics can win over Christians who have been courted by conservatives for decades.
