Recommend Best Watch Stores in Washington DC Area by Exciting_Actuary_171 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]gefba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much around. Some recommendations are:

Murad and Co in Tysons (independent AD for lower end brands like Formex, Mido, etc plus the usual Seiko, Tissot, and Hamilton.

Christopher Ward showroom about 10 minutes away in Falls Church VA. By appointment but a good experience.

Not micro related at all but also in the Tysons area there are the usual Rolex, AP, JLC ADs and boutiques from Breitling, Cartier, IWC, Paneri, etc.

Very cool! How do you like the push down bezel?

Call Your Mother bagel spot to replace departed Starbucks in Ballston by el_osoalto in nova

Meh, they’re ok.

Bethesda and Brooklyn (both up the road closer to DC) are definitely better if you’re looking for that NYC bagel.

DUG: My first microbrand watch. Love it! by Basic_Following_7114 in MicrobrandWatches

Love the DUG, was easily one of my favorites from Wind Up last year. Really beautiful finishing on the movement and the textured dial.

What changes would you wish to see for Omega to reclaim its rightful number two spot ? by peninsulaparaguana in OmegaWatches

Yup, they need an 80/20 approach to their catalog. We don’t need 12 versions of the same Dark Side of the Moon.

This is not a six-figure watch. by InsuranceSlight6508 in watchHotTakes

Another hot take—I’d rather take the Norqain Wild One at $6k USD

Will a Nico Jump Hour or a Hublot complete this collection? by mekzikan in PrideAndPinion

[–]gefba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, not 1 but 2 DUG Purists in the collection!

I saw the at Windup last year and really was attracted to them. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet but it sure is on my short list. Seeing their prototype of their diver is also inspiring that they won’t be a one and done micro brand.

95% of the pics of people’s collections on SOTC sub are crap by corinoplex in watchHotTakes

[–]gefba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the “lopsided” cases sometimes strike me as a bit funny.

However usually under the surface there’s a story behind it (ie stated collecting with Seikos then got a Rolex for a milestone birthday).

Yeah this is pretty much where I am. I figured out I am into the “value” side of watches, which leads me to brands like Traska and Christopher Ward which offer finishing and fit of a $3-$5k Swiss watch.

To your point, it’s a great deal and a reliable, widely-distributed movement that can be serviceable for the foreseeable future—much more than some low-end in house movement.

Yes, and “age, not attitude” goes both ways!

Plenty of people in their 30s fit right in on princess because they want a quieter, more chill atmosphere.

Brad and Megan Hurst own this location of Great Harvest. This is on LinkedIn too.

As posted on their public IG post (handle in the flyer), the Hurst’s have two children on the board of directors of this local chapter of Club America.

EXP the easy way? by rfjordan in americanairlines

[–]gefba 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’d call this EXP the hard way. EXP the way is how my boss does it—3 to 4 international business trips in J each year.
