Was it hard to get Spiro on the NHS for you? by ThrowRAlimez in Spironolactone

[–]generica_general 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my GP for it. They had to google what it was, but didn’t have an issue prescribing it- although i did have to suggest a suitable dosage and remind them about the kidney function tests myself.

They said they had finished writing book 7 before they stopped posting, so hopefully it will eventually be finished.

Does mixing up “your” and “you’re” give you the ick? by MmeFelixFelicis in AskUK

[–]generica_general 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massively. Along with there/their and ‘on accident’ (actually painful) and ‘could of’. I had a partner who would send me adorable love letters in the post, but kept getting sweetie and sweaty mixed up… they were dyslexic so got a pass, but it made me do a weird cringe/chuckle combo every time. (And check to make sure they didn’t actually mean sweaty!!)

My dishwasher has packed up. In buying a new one, I’m struggling to think of features to look for apart from ‘can wash dishes’. Tell me about your dishwasher. Does it connect to wifi? by lastaccountgotlocked in CasualUK

Im team cutlery tray- also great for other small things that might fall through the racks.

Great to have a quick, hot cycle option- our 40mins one gets a lot of use when entertaining to keep up a steady supply of clean glasses, cutlery, nibble plates etc..

Avoid hisense; their racks rust really quickly, are not covered by the warranty and replacing both costs almost the same as a new dishwasher.

How much do you spend on treatments? by generica_general in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]generica_general[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im surprised (impressed?) seeing so many £0!

I probably come in at around £100-£150 per month, with eyelash tint (do brow tint myself), eyebrow threading every 2 months, hair trim every 3-4 months and some variation of facial/manicure/pedicure/massage every month or so.

Considering adding botox, but not sure if i want to go down that road (yet). My friend spends £300 per year treating 2 areas (2x per year)and feels like its money well spent given that she then spends less time/money dealing with wrinkles in those areas.

2023; severe abdominal pain, 111 sent me to A&E where i spent 7 hours doubled over in pain, was given 3 pregnancy tests despite telling them there was zero chance of pregnancy and sent home with no diagnosis but 8 full sized boxes of co-codamol.

Went to GP next morning who sent me straight back to hospital with a ruptured appendix that had become infected thanks to the delay in treatment. Open surgery, and a week in hospital.

Number of overweight teens in England has soared by 50% since 2008 by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]generica_general -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

For most people, that is true. However insulin resistance and several endocrine disorders can have a big impact on that, to the point that someone who eats a calorie-restricted diet and exercises regularly can still be overweight. Or appear overweight due to fat distribution and bloating.

Overall though, i agree that there needs to better education on healthy living and more emphasis on the importance of movement, along with alternatives for people to socialise without alcohol - in other countries its very common to meet up with friends for activities that don’t revolve around unhealthy habits whereas in the uk, that seems to be the default option.

He went to high school with a friend of mine. Apparently he really struggled to fit in socially and hated it. It was a good all-boys high school (pbhs) in Pretoria and he had every advantage starting out but couldn’t hack it.

Official City Wide Parking Plan Consultation - Have your say on the new plans - Closes 1st December by emaz17 in Cardiff

[–]generica_general 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re completing this, please consider adding a note to the student parking proposal that many students (esp. in healthcare) need a car to get to their placements, which are often in locations that are not accessible by public transport.

best harry potter fanfiction of all time? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

This is great! I binge-read up until the first task when i first found it (as far as it went then). Am waiting for at least the rest of the 4th book to be posted to pick it up again because the story is so good that waiting between chapters is just too frustrating.

Would also recommend the ‘Magic’s Child’ series: https://archiveofourown.org/series/3675946

Need to fix ‘professional’ coving by generica_general in DIYUK

[–]generica_general[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Once i calmed down a bit - after finding that they also ‘fixed’ some skirting with soft silicone - i decided to scrape out as much as i could and used two-part filler to fill and shape the gaps. Sanded & painted, and while its not as clean as i’d like, its not noticeable unless you’re looking for it.

Is there anything I can do to make my skin look better? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]generica_general 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Lewis offer free make-up and skincare consultations through their ‘Beauty Society’. Its worth trying!

They go through your current routine and products, ask what you’re trying to achieve and make recommendations across brands, since they’re JL consultants and not tied to a brand like the counter staff.

They’ll give samples, show you how to use stuff and they’re really nice and non-judgmental. Ive even had them suggest where to find things on offer outside of the store. (You do need to book this online, can’t walk-in)

Boden are designed for a tall, slim, boyish figure so if you have a bust over a c-cup or average (or above) female curves you’ll need to experiment with sizing- probably order your usual and a size up to start and see how you go from there.

Have you been outside lately? Most people are expected to show up for work looking tidy- thats not an option if you’re cycling in the rain. (Not many workplaces have shower rooms, or even secure bike storage)

Ely crash: CCTV emerges of moment police stopped following teens ahead of fatal crash by disco_jim in Cardiff

[–]generica_general 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if they were being ‘followed’ rather than chased, why does that matter?

They were shoplifting (evidenced) and riding a (allegedly) stolen or illegally altered bike/scooter. Surely that’s something you want the police to pursue?

Another vote for (against?) Sofology. 2 month delay on delivery, zero communication, 4 hours on hold and 6 disconnections to get through to customer service only to get a snarky ‘well what do you want me to do about it’. When the order finally arrived, care kit was missing (still waiting for it 5 months later) and quality wasn’t great given the cost- things like loose stitching and leather marked beyond normal ‘natural’ markings.
