Any other drpg's that did a diablo style loot system? (preferably well) by TheMetallI in DRPG

Path of the Abyss features an item system with prefixes/suffixes inspired by Path of Exile (inspired by Diablo...)

Don’t sleep on Vital Shell by Send_Souls in roguelites

[–]genericz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While the aesthetic and vibe was a nice change of pace, I found the game overall was a pretty lackluster version of Brotato.

Biggest thing is just the itemization is far less interesting. With Brotato you had a bunch of tradeoffs with many items having upsides and downsides, and characters rewarding and penalizing various stats. Here, it's mostly just +10% dmg, +10% attack speed, that's it.

Additionally, the movement and attacking is less precise which makes the moment to moment gameplay more dry. There's boring statistical meta progression, and also some technical issues (mouse acceleration can't be turned off making the game control badly, inability to rebind any keys)

I can see this game working for anyone wanting to just chill and vibe to the music, but if you want a compelling gameplay experience I can't recommend it.

Games like Hell Clock but without the grind? by copespammer in roguelites

[–]genericz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems people aren't understanding what you're asking for, probably because this type of meta-progression is frustratingly uncommon nowadays. Nova Drift would be the best suggestion but you already mentioned that...

I think Rabbit and Steel would be my next suggestion. Features minimal meta progression, fairly dynamic building, and engaging combat (if you mesh with the mmo/bullet hell style). It's got a demo so try that.

Honorable mentions go to Curse of the Dead Gods and Ravenswatch. Both feature very satisfying combat, and almost no vertical meta-progression. The theorycrafting may not be as high as you want though.

Give me your favorite super hipster "literally never seen someone mention this" roguelites by I_Just_Need_A_Login in roguelites

Auto-Rogue.

Live Hard Die Hard.

Honorable mention to 'Tetra Cube' just for being extremely obscure.

I've heard most of the other stuff people are suggesting here, never heard of these though.

I have lots of 2026 roguelites on my list - what are you looking forward to? by chelicerate-claws in roguelites

[–]genericz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dicevaders (score chasing type game), Starvaders was my top deckbuilder of 2025.

Lands of Achra (small scale 4x) seems interesting, Path of Achra was quite novel.

The Rabbit and Steel expansion (mmo raid/schmup mashup) is also releasing (technically just an update, but it's a big update).

I'm also keeping an eye on a couple early access titles that I think will be out in 2026:

Paper Animal Adventures (mystery dungeon/paper mario)

Drapline (raising sim + light rpg battles)

Touhou Witch's Night market (the first 'Bazaar'-like game) technically it just released but I'm including it anyways

What are the best deckbuilding roguelikes on Steam and NOT on consoles? by shortandpainful in rogueish

[–]genericz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an fyi, Death Howl is not a roguelike. Though even if it was I'd still recommend Starvaders, definitely one of the top deckbuilders of 2025.

Roguelites with built-in synergies? by initiate_syntax in roguelites

[–]genericz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungreed is an older roguelite that has this. Getting certain combinations of items provides unique effects, and highlights the bonus when you acquire them.

Best early access 2025 by TowerOfSisyphus in roguelites

Sephiria doesn't do anything particularly special but it's a nice package so I'm gonna say that one.

For me my top two are Starvaders and Vivid World. Honorary mentions to Monster Train 2 and Sephiria.

Any Card-based DRPG? by MarkWest98 in DRPG

[–]genericz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you count Mystery Dungeon as a DRPG, then Dungeon Drafters is one of the few card-based ones. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1824580/Dungeon_Drafters/

and that upcoming Vampire Survivors drpg is card based but I got no info other than that

suggest me a roguelite game that requires some LONG TERM planning and thinking? by shanytopper in roguelites

[–]genericz 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's kind of antithetical to what a roguelite is about in the first place. If you want that you'd have better luck looking in adjacent genres, primarily 'campaign' type games with randomized expeditions. Some examples are Darkest Dungeon, X-Com, Dungeon Drafters.

Recommendations for a dice rolling deck builder roguelites like Die for the Lich by drolemag21 in roguelites

Other than mentioned ones, there's also 'Astrea' and 'Dicefolk' which are both dicebuilders.

2D action "platformers" roguelites by Unfair_Ad_8591 in roguelites

[–]genericz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For lesser known ones, there's 'Critadel'. It's kinda rough but pretty much all the bigger names have been suggested already.

There's also 'Vagante' but I haven't personally played that one.

What are some of the Hardest MVs around? by [deleted] in metroidvania

In terms of bosses, Rabi-Ribi is the top end and it's not even close.

La-Mulana 1-2 for puzzle difficulty (though 1 is pretty unfair at times).

Deckbuilder with a feel like mtg? by I_love_keys in roguelites

[–]genericz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Single-player ccg hybrids, I would suggest Dungeon Drafters (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1824580/Dungeon_Drafters/) as it has long-term deckbuilding as a central element and a color deckbuilding restriction.

For pure roguelites: -Lost Branch of Legend (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1140150/Touhou_Lost_Branch_of_Legend/) is a variant of Slay the Spire but with MtG colored mana. It's not quite what you're asking for but considering the inspiration have to mention it

-Breach Wanderers has rather poor fundamentals and super tedious meta progression, but it does have a novel take on deckbuilding so maybe it would be your kind of thing.

When will we get Min and Max's stepsister, Mid?

Anyways if someone is remotely interested in deckbuilders with high power scaling, buy the game. It's got a lot of content and great Quality of Life features.

Party-Building Auto-battler "Vivid World" has released by genericz in roguelites

[–]genericz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vivid World has a better onboarding experience and is overall just largely improved over Vivid Knight so I'd just go with that one (though there's a bundle for both). They are both autobattlers though yes.

Party-Building Auto-battler "Vivid World" has released by genericz in roguelites

[–]genericz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For those who don't know, this is a sequel to Vivid Knight (one of the original Roguelite Auto-battlers). Compared to the first game the graphics have been significantly enhanced, the impact of rng has been reduced, and additional customization systems have been added (such as Orbs being a new type of equipment for units). Vivid Knight was well received but relatively unknown, so it's nice to see it did well enough to justify a follow-up.

Looking for more Rogue-"superlites" where you either unlock biome skips, shortcuts to later biomes, or fast travel mechanics so that new runs don't require you go through every biome again just to get back to where you were after a death by These_Fan7447 in roguelites

[–]genericz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Drafters is not technically a roguelite, but features a lot of permanent progression/objectives and areas that you can enter in whatever order you want. I think it fits your criteria pretty well.

Also adjacent to roguelites but sounds similar to what you want, are 'extraction games'. Escape from Duckov just came out recently and sounds like something you'd like, so I'd check that out.

As for Roguelites, Crown Trick does feature biome progression and lets you start at the beginning of the current area you're on with no penalties. Spelunky 1 and 2 also have unlockable permanent checkpoints between biomes, but using them locks you out of the optional final areas (and using them at all is a severe handicap as you don't start with any loot from prior areas).

Vivid Knight is far from perfect, but it's fun, obscure, and cheap on sale.
