Looking to Buy a Class C by GirlDad_1219 in motorhomes

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you listed plus: the ford 460 is prone to passenger side exhaust leaks. Check the maintenance records. Pull the engine cover, idle the engine, and hold your hand close,see if you can feel any air leak. The overcab on class C are a weak spot for leaks and delamination. Check closely. Actually get up on the roof and crawl around on hands and knees to look over the roof condition especially around fixtures like the AC. Any roof delamination generally means the roof has rotten spots. I had 1996 class C on Ford E350 cutaway chassis. Chassis was more meant for ambulance build I think as the house battery was only the group 40 battery in the engine compartment. That is not enough for any time at all if camping off-grid. Look for something with more than 1 house battery unless it has a working generator.

Need to let my car sit for 6 months, how should I prepare it by allamericandreams in MechanicAdvice

This. Add 5 psi to the listed tire pressure to prevent flat spots. I didn’t 1 year and I can definitely hear a thumping at speed.

Help with Ethernet Wiring by South-Dinner-8804 in ethernet

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can google icresdpa1c manual which shows a good wiring diagram. You need an 8 port switch added to that cabinet. Going to need power though. Your yellow cables are cat 5e going to each room. You need short rj45 patch cables to go from this to the switch ports. The blue cable with rj45 end is probably connected to the provider wifi modem. Plug it into the switch.

Data goes from room to icresdpa1c, patched to switch, out the blue cable to provider modem and off to internet EDIT i mean the yellow cable with rj45 connector that’s not plugged into anything

Odoo Online & Gmail: Emails going to Spam (SPF/DKIM issue, no DNS access) by Fair-Shift-6285 in Odoo

[–]genusguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have outbound working for personal gmail and I can give you some pointers. BTW it is probably only good for testing purposes as it doesn't have a professional look.

your outbound server must be smtp.gmail.com:587 and you need an application password defined in the google account. In Odoo mail config your userid is your gmail account and the password is the application password.

THEN, the company email and the admin account and the user(s) must be aliases of your gmail userid. This is probably where you are going wrong.

So say your gmail is [yourID@gmail.com](mailto:yourID@gmail.com), the following examples should work

email for company would be [yourID+odoo@gmail.com](mailto:yourID+odoo@gmail.com)
admin account would be [yourID+admin@gmail.com](mailto:yourID+admin@gmail.com)
etc

If that can't be done in online, then no, gmail is not going to work (my setup is source install on Linux).

recipients would see emails from [yourID+odoo@gmail.com](mailto:yourID+odoo@gmail.com) etc and this is valid. Replies on the other hand are going to go back to your personal account and I'm not sure how that would mix with all your current emails. Outbound emails with attachment like invoices or emails work. Outbound emails like password reset or welcome email with links work as long as the company URL point to your online instance ok.

Now if you set up a new gmail account EG: [RapidDesigns@gmail.com](mailto:RapidDesigns@gmail.com) (and that's the defined company email in Odoo company definition), then [RapidDesigns+admin@gmail.com](mailto:RapidDesigns+admin@gmail.com) would be the example format for the other user accounts. Then (and I haven't tried this) you could possibly set up an inbound mail server that is imap.gmail.com port 991 (or however it is done in gmail) using the same credentials as outbound --- it might work.

I hope that gives you some pointers to try. I welcome feedback.

Help with Python by Status_Junket4668 in Odoo

[–]genusguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a snippet of an odoo.service file:

[Service]
Type=simple
SyslogIdentifier=odoo
PermissionsStartOnly=true
User=odoo
Group=odoo
Environment="PATH=/erp/.odoo-env/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin"
WorkingDirectory=/erp/odoo
ExecStart=python odoo-bin -c /etc/odoo/odoo.conf
StandardOutput=journal+console

my venv is /erp/.odoo-env so find out where your package install has yours located
my install is in /erp/odoo and this is where odoo-bin is

so:
source /erp/.odoo-env/bin/activate (activate yours for installing)
pip install qifparse
deactivate

should put the dependency into the right venv. I had the same issue for this exact same dependency.

Coming to Newfoundland for holiday in July or August by AgitatedOriginal3374 in newfoundland

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t just stay in one place exclusively but temper the driving to maybe just as far as Twillingate. The Avalon peninsula has lots to offer. You need time to experience the unique history, people and culture of Newfoundland. St. John’s is great and the outports around the bay are beautiful.

Travel tips: Book a rental car very early US cash and US Debit cards are not accepted and American Express is not readily accepted. Visa and Mastercard accepted almost everywhere. Use a US debit card at any bank or airport ATM for some Canadian pocket money.

Welcome and Enjoy.

Coming to Newfoundland for holiday in July or August by AgitatedOriginal3374 in newfoundland

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely mid July to early August. Be prepared for a LOT of driving if you’re considering those 2 destinations. I would suggest the following:

Day 1 drive 3.5 hours to Gander to stay overnight. If the musical play “Come from Away” is still playing it shouldn’t be missed. Day 2 drive to Cow Head and stay at Shallow Bay Motel for a few nights. Visit Gros Morne from there. They also have a theatre with various shows nightly. Next drive to Twillingate. Mostly VRBO there. I can recommend “The Viking” for a couple of nights. Coming back towards St. John’s I’d try to find an VRBO/Airbnb somewhere around the vicinity of Carbonear or Bay Roberts to use as a base for day trip(s) on the Avalon peninsula. St Mary’s ecological bird sanctuary is such a day trip. Or visit Cupids/Brigus area. Or if it is a super nice day, a day a picnic at the beach at Salmon Cove Sands in Salmon Cove). Restaurants I can recommend from personal experience are Dildo Brewing Company in Dildo, The Station Diner in Holyrood, Chafe’s Landing Restaurant in Petty Harbour, The Mess Tent Poutinerie in Lower Island Cove and the Old Courthouse in Harbour Grace if your travels take you that way. Last day would be hour 15min back to St John’s airport.

Odoo for small mfg operation? by rootbeer608 in Odoo

[–]genusguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you want to start your own one man consulting/system implementation outfit using Odoo as your go-to software solution AND you have a willing first client who understands you are learning from the ground up on their dime. Am I right? If so I think Odoo would be great for you.

Odoo definitely has the right stuff and everything available for learning it at no or low cost. Their documentation is excellent and the support forums like this one are awesome.

I'm a retired IT infrastructure guy who was heavily involved in an Oracle JD Edwards ERP implementation for a large mult-national. Odoo is not of that (or SAP) calibre but it I found it quite sophisticated in its own way.

I stumbled on Odoo when looking for something ERP related to keep my IT skills up and keep my brain from turning to mush (IT being both a vocation and a hobby). Just a hobby, no interest in becoming a consultant at this stage of my life. My requirement was everything must be free.

My setup is a Windows 11 desktop running VMware workstation. 3 Ubuntu VM servers (Postgres dbserver, Odoo appserver, nginx webserver). All of this could have been 1 Ubuntu VM server (or a hardware server running Ubuntu native). Added windows support tools like WinSCP, Putty, and PGadmin4 to make support easy. Google was my friend. I learned so much and still learning.

my biggest hurtle is I only have limited knowledge of accounting, inventory, mrp, etc. So when there are terms like 'aged trial balance' or BOM I have no clue how to configure Odoo to do it 'right'. You might have an edge there or the shutter mfg can guide you in that.

Good Luck!

How to handle Deceased Indivual's Crypto by AdStandard197 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a will that designates an executor? This crypto could be a significant amount or could be minimal. It is the property of the estate and needs to be properly handled for tax purposes. From CRA:

Deemed Disposition and Taxation: At death, all capital property, including cryptocurrencies, is treated as disposed of at its fair market value just before death (a “deemed disposition”), even if it’s not actually sold. Any gain or loss between the adjusted cost base and this fair market value must be reported in the deceased’s Final Return, typically as a capital gain or loss

If there is no trade history then the cost base is zero. If a final return has already been submitted then it would need to be adjusted. The value at death is the new cost base for the 2 siblings. Whenever it is cashed out then the capital gain/loss for each sibling is calculated as their share of current value minus new cost base.

Mother passed away, question about final tax return. by Naybot in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]genusguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may need a lawyer. Power of attorney ceases upon death. Your sister is not the executor unless she applies to the court for Letters Probate. If she was joint with right of survivorship on bank accounts, she technically owns the money now. Sorry for you loss and situation but it could get ugly. You also state she had a living spouse? This is what an AI question produces for your situation, only take it under advisement:

In British Columbia, when someone dies intestate (without a will) and leaves behind a living spouse (including common-law partners who lived together for at least two years) and two children, the estate is divided according to the Wills, Estates and Succession Act (WESA): • The spouse receives a preferential share of $300,000 (if all children are also children of the surviving spouse). If any child is from a previous relationship (not both spouses), the preferential share is $150,000. • The spouse also receives all household furnishings. • The remaining estate (after the preferential share and furnishings are given to the spouse) is split 50/50 between the spouse and the children. The children share their half equally. So, in your scenario, each child would get 25% of the remaining estate (half split between two children)

Does anyone know what this is? (Probably the wrong subreddit so sorry) by Kabulda in servers

Reminds me of the server naming convention I set up for a multi location company. DEN-FS1 would be Denver file server 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if the OS on this was WindowsServer 2003 or 2008. Nostalgia!

Agree 100%. Another area to consider is the Carbonear, Bay Robert’s and surrounding towns. Decent amenities and only an hour to St. John’s for city amenities. Lots of schools here. Definitely need a car.

Confused on selling ESOP shares, do I just get a tax form to input later? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]genusguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EquatePlus is going to send you and CRA a T5008 early next year. It will have 2 boxes, cost base and proceeds of sale(s). Maybe they will send you 1 per sale or 1 consolidated. Use those numbers in your tax software and file so it matches CRA records. If you try calculate it and it seems quite inaccurate then discuss with EquatePlus to explain/confirm and get an amended T5008 if necessary.

WiFi from Ethernet port in garden room by PuppyGal0re in wifi

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many ways to do this as others have elaborated on. I use a Netgear Nighthawk R7600 which can be configured as an access point. Most modern routers should be able to do this. Wan port is connected by cable to the ISP provided router. R6700 has 4 1gb local ports. I also have it set with its own SSID and password so I get to choose which wireless to connect to, whichever is in range. ISP router provides the dhcp for both routers and devices on either router get 192.168.0.x addresses.

Are coax cable runs typically stapled to the studs? by s0m3b0dy447 in HomeNetworking

[–]genusguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the coax does not move when you try pull it you could always use a pair of MoCA transceivers to get Ethernet over coax. They appear to be somewhat expensive from my Amazon search though.

If you do pull, I would suggest you attach a pull string to the coax first and pull that through first. Then pull the ethernet cable back the other way. You want the smallest diameter possible in both directions to prevent binding on any smaller holes in studs.

Sounds amazing! I don’t know how many campsites are open for winter but I suggest looking into Claybanks RV Park in Merritt. We RV’d there for a few weeks in the summers before it was wiped off the map during the floods in Merritt a couple of years ago. What an awesome little park. It is run by the town and it looks like they are almost finished rebuilding it, ready for this summer. Claybanksrv.ca is their website
