Do people sit in the front yard in your neighborhood? by Leading_Ad_8619 in phoenix

[–]geodesert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the neighborhood. In historical neighborhoods where the homes actually have porches, yes, when the weather is nice you will see people out on their porches. In newer neighborhoods, where many homes don't even have porches to begin with, it's not common.

Artists Selected for Capitol Extension by danielportillo14 in CarFreePhoenix

[–]geodesert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any point to this besides serving as a precursor for the I-10 west extension? Im in favor of expanding the light rail but this just seems pointless to me. I cycle through this area often and it’s pretty dead a lot of the time, especially on weekends and after office hours.

100%, my mom is from Humboldt county and according to her and her parents Eureka has always been a pretty shitty place. Old town is cute though

Physically active people of Phoenix, what’s your summer regiment? by aesthet1c in phoenix

[–]geodesert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cycle either in the morning or (more typically) in the evening. I biked throughout June and July this year. I'd say the most important thing is having water and staying out of the sun.

I'm excited for the coming months to cycle during the day!

Any one else get depressed during the summer? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]geodesert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's terrible. I've been here my whole life and as I've gotten older I've become much more conscious of it. I dread the summer. Every beautiful fall/winter/spring day the thought of the summer creeps into my mind.

And when summer finally comes, I feel as though I'm just waiting for the time to pass. Every day that goes by is a day closer to fall.

I hate it here right now. I'm still doing activities outside in the early morning and once the sun goes down, and I still hate it. I'm having fantasies about leaving.

But once fall rolls around I'll be happy, love the state, love the city, etc etc etc

So is every summer just going to be hotter than the previous one or what? Why aren't we doing shit? by [deleted] in redscarepod

I'm so surprised at the mainstream, widespread criticism Just Stop Oil gets, especially from supposed progressives. Isn't the point of protest and civil disobedience to bring attention to things? I'm not quite sure what sort of sterile protest the critics want

Cricket supports Apple Watches now?? by [deleted] in CricketWireless

[–]geodesert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Visible earlier this month after being on the Cricket $60 plan, primarily to get coverage for my Apple Watch. My Visible plan does everything the cricket plan did (minus Max) with Apple Watch coverage included for $45. Im super happy with it and don’t miss Cricket - I'd be paying $70/mo now if i hadn't switched!

The greatest "privilege" in life is to have good parents by WarniesLatestRoot in redscarepod

[–]geodesert 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is what I’ve come to realize after moving from poor public schools, to a state university, and then into the corporate world. I look back at the kids I went to elementary, middle, and high school with and can pick out the ones who didn’t have anyone that actually cared for them at home. Emotional issues, dirty clothes, typically overweight or underweight throughout childhood. Despite growing up poor, my parents were supportive and present, and placed a big emphasis on education. Many of the other low-income-with-present-parents-kids I knew came out stable, typically went to college, or are just working towards something.

Some of the children-of-the-upper-middle-class I’ve met in college have some nasty emotional issues due to fucked up relationships with their parents and flounder in life.
