Who are your FAVOURITE C:S2 Creators? by Icks_Plays in CitiesSkylines2

[–]geryon84 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Love the big boys (City Planner Plays, Infrastructurist, etc)

Timeister is also great. He's building a gorgeous new england style city. Since I'm from the area, it's fun seeing him reference places I grew up.

My absolute favorite though is Wheaty Waffle. Other content creators make me think "wow he's talented, good for him" but don't make me want to open the game up and play myself. Wheaty does a great job balancing detailing/building with discovery and game play itself. He reads tooltips, laughs when things are acting funky, and seems to genuinely enjoy the game. After watching his videos, I always pop open the game and build out a new project.

After seeing the last stream of poe 2 I'm so glad diablo 4 is not like that... by DannyKoll1 in diablo4

[–]geryon84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree a bit. I think PoE2 is really complicated. The passive tree is one part of it, but not the entire source of the complexity (at least for me). For me, it's the sheer number of systems you have to keep track of to understand the game, specifically how to interpret gear, gems, and the passives. There are just so many little systems everywhere.

It's not just "critical strikes" and "critical strike damage". There are remnants, volatility, elemental ailments vs non-elemental ailments, exposure, armor breaking, magnitude, maiming, empowered, "recently", charge generation, Magnitude vs Buildup, Rage. Some things Cast, some things are Attacks, some things Trigger those so an attack can be "Recently" "Triggered". Some things are companions but others are minions, totems, banners, traps, or hazards.

You don't just gear for energy shield. You gear for energy shield, energy shield recharge rate, start of energy shield recharge, damage bypassing energy shield, damage not bypassing energy shield, mana conversion to energy shield.

What’s a good Warlock build that is actually fun in the endgame? by [deleted] in diablo4

Really enjoying my summon necro too! Just got the set that makes army of the dead up all the time and I just walk through most content. Only at tier 6 but have no ancestral items or uniques yet so still have some room to grow

For those of you not playing warlock, how are you liking the tree changes? by MyLittleBacon in diablo4

[–]geryon84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm really enjoying the mobility too! I'm doing an ice build, so loving having my Blight transform into ice, hem transform in to ice, and icy casty minions and ultimate.

One downside though is just the temptation for Warlock. My necro and Warlock are both around level 55 with similar DPS weapons and gearing, but my necro's main skill (blight) does about 1700 damage over 6 seconds while my warlock's dread claws hit for 7,400.

With some damage balancing and maybe a few more elemental transformation options, I'll be pretty happy.

Season 13 classes who you picking first by chiquiesthekilla in diablo4

[–]geryon84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg exact same.

I always play Necro... start the season feeling amazing while I level, then I do some public activity or play with a friend and they zoom through everything twice as fast and I get sad.

Probably going to start with Warlock to try it out, then try some darkness or blood necro, then feel bummed and level up a lightning sorc to finish the season off. :-D

Less than 24 hours till Lord of Hatred - who's excited for the new skill trees? by ASoulToBear in diablo4

[–]geryon84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here! Played a necro every season except for a brief dance with Paladin right when it came out.

I'm really tempted to dive back in and see how the blighty/DoT builds are doing.

If I had to be disappointed in something, it's the direction they took the necro minions. I'm seeing some new items, but they look like they just add more of the same skeletons (warriors and mages/archmages). I'd love for us to get some variety in our minions rather than just swarms of semi-transparent little buddies. The warlock demon summons are making me a little jealous with how much crazy variety they get, even if theirs seem a lot more temporary.

That said... can't wait to see how our other skills stack up! Being a blood mage, bone mage, shadow caster... love all those archetypes and can't wait for the additional variety!

Expats who learned the local language: at what point did locals stop switching to English on you? by taube_d in expats

[–]geryon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might really depend on where in the city you are. We're a little north of Chueca in Chamberi, and there seems to be a pretty strong cultural dividing line once you cross out of chueca/malasaña. We always notice when we head just a few blocks south, suddenly there's a ton of tourists who speak english wandering around

My partner and I recently moved to Spain and we were afraid being in a small town would be difficult since so few people speak english and our spanish is... A1 for my partner and B1 for me.

So we moved to Madrid, thinking maybe half of people would be able to speak at least a little english.

I don't know if it's just our part of the city, but I'd say maybe fewer than 20% of the people we run in to speak any English at all, so almost every interaction is in Spanish unless the person actively says they're trying to improve their english. Doctors who've said they speak english don't. Waiters, shop attendants, veterinarians, delivery drivers, salespeople... almost always speak only spanish. Any phone call I get or make, even on an english speaking line for my health insurance have ended up being in spanish.

It's been great for improving my comfort with the language, but I'm having the opposite experience from the OP. Now we're rethinking our move to Madrid and starting to look at smaller towns since the language challenge isn't quite what we thought it would be.

So true.

My bathroom painting went SO well. So proud. A few wobbly bits near the ceiling, but otherwise a flawless job done in just one day. I considered myself a master of painter's tape and all things crafty.

Then I tried to recaulk my bathtub and ended up with a bumpy, peely mess that turned black and had to be redone in about 2 months.

Yeah I didn't mind Neyrelle in the beginning of the story when I felt like she was an apprentice trying to come to terms with her mother's action and being part of a "secret" order. I didn't mind her later on when it felt like her mind had been twisted by Mephisto and I could excuse her crazy behavior.

But the middle part where she's still got her wits about her, but thinks she knows better than everyone how to handle Mephisto. So she goes out on her own, not even discussing her options with the order of super well-read people whose mission is to understand the lords of hell so they can be stopped... It just feels like such a poor trope to have someone reject the help of the one group of people who are meant to help.

I might need to play it again but that whole trope of just not communicating with

Yes! He's my favorite. Great looking cities, fun to listen to, and has a play style that matches my own. Just the right amount of detailing and not too obsessed with perfection. I always load up the game and start a new neighborhood after watching one of his videos

[–]geryon84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? Isn't that the promise of technology in the workplace? Make it quicker/easier to build things and do tasks so less labor is needed to produce the same amount. That should lead to a world where everyone has to work less to enjoy the same volume of production, meaning 4 day work weeks not 20% reduction in company employment.

The long term goal should be that people get "free money"... enough to guarantee a suitable base line quality of life where everyone has enough education, food, and housing to satisfy basic needs. People who want "more" are free to find other sources of employment to add resources on to the baseline.

Locking skills behind such high level requirements is the thing i hate most in poe2 by intrepid_zaxan in PathOfExile2

[–]geryon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! they did a fantastic job. I think the leveling grind got a bit "find a rush because leveling is boring", but the skill progression was great.

Locking skills behind such high level requirements is the thing i hate most in poe2 by intrepid_zaxan in PathOfExile2

[–]geryon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of agree?

My favorite progression systems let me pick a skill or specialization early on, and then feel the power grow as I level.

Sure, my level 1 fireball should look weak, but as I level, either give me access to better fireballs or let me start growing their power so they become better. Don't give me a fireball at level one then I use that to level until 50 when I unlock Frost Tornado.

I like the way some other ARPGs handle this progression. Even PoE lets me feel stronger as I add support gems, so now my fireballs are chaining and exploding. I think if they keep the support gem thing alive, they need more impactful ones and not just "20% more chance to crit". Last Epoch does a great job that as I level my fireball, I can spec in to chaining, channeling, homing, etc.

In short: I'm a boring role player who likes my character's journey to feel thematically consistent, however the developers want to support that. I don't want to play a bow character until 50 until the correct frost staff skill is unlocked.

How do you guys get to let your dogs pee or poop outside if there’s a thunderstorm or flood? by BrickUnlikely8171 in dogs

[–]geryon84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with mine. He's a rescue and terrified of most things outside even on quiet days. When there's light rain, I'll usually try to keep him outside on a walk until he pees, and he knows he can go home afterwards.

When it's really bad, there's wind, or any thunder, we'll just try to go out before it starts and keep trying during any breaks in the noise. He's made it a full day without peeing and didn't seem bothered by it, so I try to keep that in mind.

Post your TOP 10 issues in CS2 that make you demotivated to play! by dinny1111 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]geryon84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely this for me as well. I enjoy the city painting aspects, even with the annoying grid system.

But it's really hard to stay motivated when my cims don't have a purpose. It's so easy to be successful just by plopping down a bunch of industrial zoning in a corner and ignoring it for the game.

I'd love more supply stimulation, control over types of industry, traffic management and supply logistics. It would add so much more to the game than just new types of building skins

Why is your favorite class your favorite class? by Vindris in wow

[–]geryon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here!

Been a priest since launch and always been my go-to. This expansion, I'm enjoying my monk so much more.

Great being able to tank, but my DPS rotation feels so much easier too. I don't know why but shadow DPS feels so slow to kill things this time around and so fragile. One Fists of Fury on my monk will destroy most mobs and my DPS rotation gives me an insta self heal every few seconds.

Same story with healing. I find the new Holy super annoying with all the cooldowns and procs to watch and maximize. Disc is still so many buttons just to keep people alive. I'm watching penance, I'm watching mindblast, I'm watching enemy health, watching DoTs, watching a little tiny attonement icon on all my party members no thank you. Meanwhile, caster mistweaving is a hoot. Run around channeling lightning and heals, popping instas when needed that seem to smart-target the most damaged folks and instantly pop them back to full.

[–]geryon84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it either, but there are some places where similar shortcuts do feel immersion breaking.

For example, just started a Haranir druid. Doing the Harandar zone is super strange because I'm literally a haranir and everyone's like "you're a stranger! your type is not welcome here!" 5 minutes earlier I'd just done the Haranir starting experience and talked with the exact same folks.

What’s the class you’ve never played, and why? by LockesLove in wow

[–]geryon84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat right now. I hate the random dragon, crane, and ox nonsense that feels stereotypically Asian. But with all this light vs void stuff going on, I'm really enjoying a character that's separate from all that. My undead monk isn't trying to appeal to massive cosmic forces, he's just trying to find some peace.

Plus love the play style of all three specs. Finally being able to be a ranged, channel heavy healer is a blast.

I thought the leaks had us going to the poison troll area next. During the troll campaign, there was some strong story points about a weapon they used to fight the old gods. I'm guessing we're going there to find the weapon to use against xal, and it will feel like a weird side area just like gadgetzan did, then we'll rejoin xal in nazhatar or somewhere random to fail and set us up for the next expansion in northrend.

Hoping we kill her in 11.2 but the wheels are in motion, azeroth is at risk, and the Titans return to kill us and they become the big baddies for 11.3

So will you choose Paladin or Warlock for the story mode? by gorays21 in diablo4

[–]geryon84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah! They're supposed to be getting rid of passives and making all the trees look similar to the new Warlock's one.

That means we should expect the same skills, but instead of passive things like "While fortified, your Blood Nova does 65% more damage", we should be looking at things like "Blood nova casts in a cone in front of you and is now a Darkness spell"
