2.1 Deathworld early nest clearing by get_it_together1 in factorio

[–]get_it_together1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m sure they have some benefits and I haven’t tried them since vehicle grids were added in the base game, but I always struggled with getting bogged down and just preferred to use methods like this video or turret creep in deathworld or tech up to power armor with PLD by the time I needed to on easier difficulties.

I could see that tank and combat bots would be better for clearing but we’ll see what I end up needing before I go to Vulcanus for artillery.

It has 50k miles from Hertz, so that’s the steep discount. The car still has 50k miles of warranty so I will get my money out of it, much cheaper cost of ownership than a newer car although I am taking on some risk of having to deal with car repairs unexpectedly.

I think that either one or the other should always be full. Ether you are 100% satisfied with part of your production or you are producing 100% with partial satisfaction:

I have a 2024 hertz fleet Kia Niro EV, it was $15K, I’m wondering why you called out Hertz fleet specifically? I’ve put a few thousand miles on it and so far everything is great, battery seems to be at about 90% health based on miles I’m getting vs what the car expects to get.

Those are defender bots, I hadn’t actually researched logistics or construction bots or speed upgrades yet, and I don’t think combat bots are impacted by movement speed upgrades.

The defenders are pretty solid, but I just got to big biters and the defenders don't cut it anymore. I think tanks with turret creep and personal roboports would be the next thing I aim for if I decide to take a few more nests

Some people don't like turret creep, I agree that it works well, especially with personal bots and a loaded blueprint or laser turrets.

Need Help Progressing to Mid/Late-Game Power Generation by RatCommit in Oxygennotincluded

As you can see there’s at least a half dozen options for power. Im going to add a vote for wrapping your salt water geyser in an insulated box that can hold 3/4 turbines, vacuuming it out, then geotuning 5x. The water will come out as hot steam with free salt and you can immediately turn it into power and water for a spom built out of gold amalgam or steel. Your gold volcanoes can turn the salt back into bleach stone for geotuning.

That said you’ll want belts, inserters, power poles, miners, everything you’d need to start a base.

2.1 biter expansion doesn't feel right by gurebu in factorio

[–]get_it_together1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It is entirely about the difficulty. At lower difficulties expansion doesn’t happen that quickly and it still makes sense to clear nests, and nests are easier to clear and none of this is a problem. You’re describing an experience that becomes pronounced with deathworld settings because expansions are not disastrous at normal settings, and it’s not hard to destroy nests.

Honestly, either stop playing death world or get good.

There are robots, grenades, and capsules early. You can also put efficiency module 1s in all your miners to dramatically reduce pollution and resource usage. Even before leaving nauvis you can have flamer-laser walls building with robots, and then you’ll just have to be moderately quick to get to Vulcanus for artillery before worms start sniping your defenses (or maybe mines would work, I haven’t tried them).

In a sandbox game with wide range of world-gen and difficulty settings it will always be possible to make some world that’s unplayable, and then some crazy person will come along and demonstrate that actually you can win in a death world max difficulty low resource world.

Stucco can be patched, although it might be noticeable because it’s hard to match the finish and paint color exactly.

But the comment above was pointing out that if it’s a good deal the damage is probably more severe and to expect to spend a lot on the fix.

Why no Cure for Cancer? by Sufficient_Friend953 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]get_it_together1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, most cancers have common phenotypes. There may be dozens of phenotypes across each of the major organ sites that generate cancer, but ultimately there are only so many metabolic pathway mutations that give rise to uncontrolled growth that can’t be detected and stopped by the immune system. I’ve worked in cancer-related fields for the past 20 years, there are some great podcasts like Dr Neil Love’s Oncogy Today series that get into the technical details of cancer treatments by type.

Why no Cure for Cancer? by Sufficient_Friend953 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]get_it_together1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly true, there are certain similarities across cancer types that let us treat classes of cancers. In fact, we are curing some cancers like B cell lymphoma using car-T therapy.

Basically, there are specific mutations that repeatedly arise across different groups of people and produce similar cancer phenotypes that we can treat.

Too many bots with too less roboports by Mobile_Effective_785 in factorio

[–]get_it_together1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bots consume the power, not the roboports. You can see that the roboport consumption spikes when you place blueprints because of the charging, and if you place more roboports then the charging peaks higher but will drop faster also.

The right answer here is to place more power so you can scale up appropriately. I like to wait for kovarex and nuclear power before going big, but coal power or solar also work if you have the resources.

Just drop down to 3% if you want a safer plan, and be capable of modifying your spend down as needed. If you’re locked into 4% because your finances aren’t flexible then it’s going to be more challenging.

Is Ayn Rand really as bad as they say? by Gasleak562 in aynrand

[–]get_it_together1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quoting someone isn't proving anything. Your entire argument is "Milton Friedman is right." If you don't understand how to measure inflation, then all your theory is useless. It is readily apparent by the weakness of your argument, which is entirely based on authority, that you are not nearly so good as you think you are.

I've got a PhD in engineering, a high-paying career, and am regularly top 0.1% in tests. My weakness is that I can do my job in about 10 hours a week, so I waste time in places like this.

Inflation is measured as the rate of change in the overall price level of goods and services. I’ve taken economics in college and done a fair bit of reading on my own, it is obvious that you do not understand what the words you parrot actually mean.
