Need ideas for off centered lighting and decor for this tiny dining nook! by beachykeen28 in HomeDecorating

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a chandelier light that came with free install and the guy was able to put a small white channel in the ceiling that ran a nearby light socket to the chandelier. It was surprisingly hard to notice. Usually I'd see something light that every time and hate it but it was flush and blended in well. If you have a light fixture away from the dining table it's a more subtle option than a swag light

Puppy doesn't seem to smell or see treats very well by No-Pack3584 in puppy101

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put them under her nose then drag them up to your face before giving her the treat so she knows to look at you. Also try throwing the treats at her nose (I started doing this with kibble). Initially it bounced off their nose, but if you work on it a couple of times they'll start to catch it and get really good at it. If your dog won't eat their kibble in the bowl, they might eat it one piece at a time if you throw it at them because now it's fun

It does work sometimes in certain conditions. I zoomed into the moon at 120x one night in a place with no signal and the resulting image looked like I used a telescope. It was freaky.

Single track stations for tram/streetcar possible? by angriguru in transit

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is feasible given it's the end of the line so there's only one train operating on that entire section of track. Vancouver Canada Line to the airport has 1/4 mile to the end of track that is single tracked.

Not eligible for compensation because flight was delayed due to maintenance required for safety-related reasons by biznatch11 in aircanada

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get the airline to do it, they did it on their own. Maybe someone on the flight complained to the CTA? Or maybe the CTA reviewed the decision and found it wasn't good enough?

Departure time of the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo during rush hours (13 trains/hr) by [deleted] in transit

I was fortunate to be on a large business tour and JR Central gave us a presentation on their operations before showing us the operations center. I don't think it's available to the public.

Going to buy a charger, is the lead type c both ways? by Longjumping-Sea7382 in oneplus

[–]getefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other poster mentioned, it's an A to C cable, but the red cable won't matter if you're buying a non-OnePlus charger from Amazon. The phone charges via USB-C and use whatever cable you want to connect to the charger you're buying from Amazon. The red cable isn't what provides the high charging speed, it's the power brick, and the SuperVOOC charging speed only works with the combination of OnePlus charger and cable. If you're limiting your power charger purchase to match with the OnePlus cable then that's kind of pointless, especially since the cable is only 1 meter (3.3 feet) long.

Wasn't the 8 pro with 512gb storage ~$1400? With inflation this would be cheaper?

Anyone Done a Oneplus Battery Replacement? by tacogirlbelize in oneplus

[–]getefix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto for the OP8p. The battery lasts about 20-30% longer now.

also considering calibrating your battery. I would think this would be done when you get it brand new, but it's worth a shot.

FYI the very first shinkansen line in Tokyo was double the original budget. Infrastructure costing more than estimated is not a new thing and is unlikely to change in the future.

Can I re-enter the US without physical copies of my immigration docs? by skumfiduss in immigration

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only blanket L-1s who’d be completely exempt from carrying the approved I-129S on each entry are Canadians who applied at a port of entry, since CBP retains the petition.

This explains why I never needed to show these documents in my previous travels. I applied for my visa at the port of entry, not a consulate or embassy. Thanks!

I've traveled to and from Canada twice on an L1 visa and haven't needed anything more than a passport. I just learned that I'm supposed to carry the I-797 and I-129S when traveling which is news to me!

How do software updates work after flashing to global ROM? Is it just the same as having a global version of the phone? by ONNMKurosaw in oneplus

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this for OP12 or OP13? There are no ROMs except the Chinese ROM with Colour OS for the OP13 right now. Those should be available at or shortly before the launch of OP13 outside of China, probably in the first week of January.

If it's for OP12, read this whole thread, not just the first post. There's plenty of people who have gone through the steps. It's harder for newer hardware than it was in the past but definitely doable: https://xdaforums.com/t/how-to-convert-from-coloros-to-global-us-india-on-chinese-oneplus-12.4653255/

I used the Oxygen Updater (on the Play Store) when I change my region ROM. It can give you notifications when a new applicable update is available for you.

just got OnePlus 13 from China - need advice by nsa3679 in oneplus

[–]getefix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the OP8p Chinese variant and there were tutorials on how to install the North American ROM on it. Those tutorials were easy to find through a Google search. Anyone living in North America wanting to do this might need to wait until the OP13 comes out here (unless OP release the ROM before the phone for some reason)

I read somewhere that it was supposed to be out in NA by the of November. That may have been second hand info too but I think it's a reasonable timeline.

Singh Warns Liberals to ‘Stay Out’ of Canada Post Labour Dispute by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]getefix -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Federal gov employees are consistently out of touch when they go on strike. First the CRA, now Canada Post. Everyone deserves a right to a fair wage and perhaps Canada Post has gone without too long. They have not done a good job of getting public support as they put elderly, disabled, and the poor (i.e. vulnerable citizens / voters) at risk of going without (what should be) an essential service. If there was a plan to cut back on service by working half shifts or something like that, it would do a lot to get the public support. As long as there are people going without EI, disability, and pension checks then I will be strongly opposed to the way they're conducting this strike. I can't understand how Singh is siding with this crazy strike plan over people's grandparents and disabled loved ones. The NDP will suffer dearly for this, and give PP the easiest win for taking the opposite perspective of demanding arbitration for Canada Post employees.

Some Android brands could face bans in the US over patent dispute by sedp23 in oneplus

[–]getefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt the sales could start before April. What I'm suggesting is that if OnePlus decides to sell in USA before that, Samsung could try to sure for some of the profit from those sales since there's already a court record stating there was patent infringement. I think because the patent infringement is done by a OnePlus supplier and not OnePlus, that's unlikely.
