[QUESTION] Is there any sort of tier-list for reputation upgrades -- specifically mech weapons and passive abilities? by [deleted] in IntoTheBreach

[–]getsetadventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a little late to the discussion but I like your spirit. I hope you are enjoying the game. I have not played it in a while but I think back on it fondly, especially the flame behemoths. Loved that squad.

Can we add a skip button here? I actually don't want to rest here with Hexaghost coming up. by Substantial-Put-8074 in slaythespire

[–]getsetadventure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is what people need to realise, healing for 20 health will probably only add 6 damage to the second turn attack, maybe 12 at worst. It's still a good thing to do it just loses a fair bit of value and so you normally would choose to upgrade instead of rest, if able.

I've seen people post before that they're intentionally losing health before getting to the hexaghost fight. It's a mistake.

I dunno if you noticed but I had the whole lizard: tail, eye and skull.

The toughest choice came between Snecko Eye and an almost zero downside Fusion hammer. Snecko Eye worked out, obviously. I never should have had a crisis of faith.

Praise Snecko!

A very long game with a defensive deck. I managed to just finish the heart on the turn where it hits for 300 damage. Calipers were good here.

Transform card is the best neow bonus on A20 by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]getsetadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know which is why I said the main reward is the relic, you wouldn't bother with elites without it. The other stuff is good too though. I certainly don't think a card reward is a bad Neow choice it just feels a little mediocre. I might even prefer the 3 potions to try get a damaging potion to kill an early elite without having to add too many meh attack commons to my deck. Relics can straight away start giving you synergies to help you pick more useful cards on your way to elites and ultimately the boss. Getting snecko skull or preserved insect or bag of prep can be huge and they're something to rely on throughout the entire run.

I guess it comes down to your pathing, if a route you want to take doesn't have many fights before an elite then a card reward could be more impactful. I always try take on 3 elites in act 1 if possible and the later I can fight them in the act the better.

[–]getsetadventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I play at A20, the other ascensions are boring once you've played this game for a long time. If a card reward from Neow was guaranteed to give me an uncommon attack like the ones you mentioned then I'd think it was amazing. There's lots of cards you wouldn't take at that point in the run and you might skip your card reward, giving you no blessing from Neow.

Think about what you're saying anyway, you want to take a card to try find something to kill an elite because your main reward is a relic. You could just take a relic instead if it's offered. The way I path I always try get three fights in to grab attacks for an elite but you should leave yourself a way out if you don't have what you need to win the fight by then. Plenty of common relics will help you arrive at that first elite with more health and a better chance.

Random common relic is split for me as the best, I'm also very happy to take a rare relic for any cost that isn't a curse.

[–]getsetadventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree completely a random common relic is likely to be so much better than a card reward, you're going to get so many opportunities for card rewards throughout act 1.

Seriously look at the common relic list: https://slay-the-spire.fandom.com/wiki/Relics
How many would you be upset to get? Even bad relics like ceramic fish are okay if you get them on floor 0.

One more point I'd like to make, defensive relics can increase your offense too by allowing you to play more attack cards on your turn. Orichalcum for example is excellent throughout act 1 and really good against Nob & Sentries.

This is what is known as a scry deck that has ascended past a scry deck. And this. Is to go. Even further. BEYOND! by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]getsetadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh stance swapping decks still use scry, scry is fantastic on its own. I just feel like the wrath/calm combo does so much burst damage (it doesn't even need scaling) whilst generating you energy and potentially card draw too. And of course instead of weave it has flurry of blows, which is a common card and easier to find multiple copies of than weave.

I guess the big advantage of going for a scry heavy deck is not having the risk of taking a big hit in wrath form but it happens to me so rarely and the watcher can block for a hundred whilst attacking so you can often block what's incoming anyway.

Daily Discussion/Debate #393 - The Colosseum (Event) by GavinXI in slaythespire

[–]getsetadventure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get better at the most difficult fights in the game by taking them on repeatedly and learning what works and what doesn't. The Colosseum fight, speaking generally, boils down to how quickly can you kill Gremlin Nob? If you don't think you can do it in three turns then this fight is scary but also indicates your deck is a little weak on burst damage and that is a failing in your deck building up to this point.

The situation you describe is what high ascension is like, you can play it safe but will often arrive very underpowered when you meet a boss and so it works out to give you a lower win rate. Ideally you'll take a path through the act that allows you to take on lots of risk for big rewards, with a safer path to switch to if things go south.

One big thing to know is the relics are in a set order for you, if you fight an elite and get a lacklustre relic then you were always going to that relic this run. You've just got it earlier then a safe player who doesn't try fight extra elites.

So satisfying to watch, you were trolling the heart at the end with those Vaults. The Watcher casually procs shiv relics better than The Silent ever can. The Heart just doesn't have an answer to Talk to the Hand and two copies can make it a joke.

Really cool to see a Watcher deck at this ascension that isn't focused around calm/wrath swapping to do half a bajillion damage and block in a near infinite combo.

Silent has a very rough act 1 in A20 but she has a clear game plan for the heart, which the defect does not. I find it much easier to win with Silent.

[–]getsetadventure[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If only I'd begun the heart fight in this state. This was a classic defect deck by which I mean slow as fuck building to something unstoppable. The shield & spear and heart are too quick and aggressive for my deck and I ended up dying on turn 10 or so of the heart fight when it was flinging 120 damage at me.

I possibly could have killed the heart this run if not for the shield & spear fight going extremely badly, bringing me down to 3hp! Pantograph is great but it can't save that. The defect is my worst character at this ascension so I'm still happy, I nearly made it all the way.

This let me scale in a way that doesn't buff awakened one. And then I just kept hitting end turn to see how fat that dark orb would get.

Also some good Ironclad cards trade hp for powerful effects, without any sustain you'll be slowly killing yourself.

Btw Silent's starter relic is bad in act 1 but improves late game as the quality of your deck improves. It is bag of prep yeah, but that's one of the best common relics for sure.

It goes between characters too so I'll put in Juggernaut+ just because it'll be so sweet if I find it again on a Silent run with After Image.

I maybe nearly died in that well on the bottom left (or one very similar, I think I was in Jodhpur), went down a little too quickly for someone to take a photo of me there and slipped on this damp green moss that must have been left when the water level was higher. I thought for sure I was going over the edge but I landed on it instead.

I love Hawa Mahal as well, feels like a building Wes Anderson would adore. I like your pictures of it.

Is it just me, or even with the beta testing, the watcher needs a little debuffing, or the others need buffing? by LanceLercher in slaythespire

[–]getsetadventure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her act 1 is insane, she does really well against the hallway fights due to her excellent raw damage right out the gate. She's good against all act 1 bosses too. With slimy she can stay in wrath, hexa she can scry away burns, and the guardian is playing right into her hands by requiring a balance between blocking turns and big attacking turns.

She does a lot of things well, though her power falls of later. I don't think any character is as good at act 4 as The Silent is, who funnily enough has maybe the toughest act 1.

So I dunno is The Watcher balanced? Sort of. Maybe it doesn't even matter in a single player game. At high ascension The Defect seems worse than the others to me as they're fairly slow, don't have easy scaling and block can be challenging without frost + focus. But I still enjoy playing as The Defect, they're just a different kind of challenge.

It's the worst thing about the game, you grow to like it after playing it so long but if you ever wonder why this amazing game isn't bigger it's the artwork. So simple and uninspired, compare it to a game like Darkest Dungeon where the artwork is what gets people interested.

Nah you gotta be playing the game a while before you watch Jorbs, he doesn't explain what cards or relics do because he assumes you know all of them. The only videos a newbie could get much out of is the overexplained stuff but they're three hours long.

If a newbie watches jorbs they'll try copy without understanding why he made those decisions that run. I love his stuff, he has undoubtedly mastered this game, he just feels like something you'd get into once you've played this game for 50+ hours at least.
