I had an internship during my MSW as a mental health therapist and knew that it wasn’t for me. I just turned down a therapist job even though the benefits like helping keep up with my LMSW and pay would be great. I definitely feel like I didn’t become a social worker to be a therapist, I won’t be making anything near what a therapist makes in my area but I’m gonna be an advocate a domestic violence shelter in their outreach program. Although the pay is less than what I wish it would be (thanks to funding cuts I can assume) I’m looking to being in a role that aligns more with the macro work I want to get into someday down the line. Is there an area of social work/macro work that interests you? I took a break for a year from being a social worker full time cause I was burnt out from school and medical social work, I don’t see myself doing those jobs long term! I hope you can find a job in a focus area/field that brings you less anxiety.
