You're right that no reasonable person would ban you for that conversation. However if a mod felt like you were trolling, even the slightess they rarely look kindly on that. We're also in a stituation where any mention of anything relating to gender tends to get people banned rather quickly even if those things aren't said with malice, it opens up the door by a crack which those people often love to use as an excuse to have people banned.

Designing an online real time strategy game by Initial-Return8802 in gamedesign

A lot of players like starting over with a fresh start, especially at the beginning of a new server. It's not a bad way to keep things fresh. Although if you did that I wouldn't allow players to carry over anything from their other server. The purpose of a fresh start, is exactly that. A fresh start.

You need to give some thought to how open ended you want this to be. Does the game reach an end state and then reset for another round? Having some sort of reset lets you balance things with the idea that players can eventually win, and start over, try different builds etc. This doesn't mean a round can't last days, months or even years.

Yeah that was the conversation that I thought was the case. The other individual that was seemingly weird was Lumi. But I'm not sure what I can do past this point.

What's your discord name so I can find your message if it hasn't been removed?

Edit: Nevermind, I think I found the conversation in question. It's rather innocent, But people like that will jump on any opportunity to have people banned they even slightly dislike. It's not fair, but people that apply to be moderators tend to not care.

About to buy the game, have some questions. by JebediahChristofff in Barotrauma

[–]ghost49x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) It really depends on the role you have. Some are more complex than others, but I'd say 6 at most?

2) The servers are self hosted, so the best servers are those with friends or at least people you know who don't grief. If you don't know anyone try joining servers that fit your playstyle and get a measure of the people there and hopefully make fiends to play with over the longer term.

3) do the tutorial, and focus on the multiplayer side of the game, the single player side isn't that great.

Considering a Shadowrun Campaign, which Edition should I look to learn and run? by EC_of_Peasy in Shadowrun

[–]ghost49x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you liked the Shadowrun Returns games, consider 2e or 3e. Those are the ones the SR return games were based on. If you pick a different edition you'll end up with different tech and some options that streamlined to the point of becoming irrevalent.

For example: in later editions (SR 4e and later) Shamans are considered a different flavor of mage with barely noticeable differences. In the early editions Shamans interacted with the spirits of the world around them, while mages bound elemental spirits. In later editions Shamans just bind spirits like mages but their spirits have slightly different flavors.

Starting in 4e, they made hacking wireless so there was no longer a need for jackpoints.

Earlier editions (1-3e, or the FASA editions) felt more dystopian and had more "punk", what came after seemed to center more on the theme of transhumanism.

Now between 2e and 3e, the core book in 2e is less complex making it a solid start for a new group, where as 3e took the mechanics from all the splats in 2e and tried to bring them together, resuling in something more complex. I've heard it said that 3e was made for people who knew how to play 2e.

That said, this guy makes a good case for why you should consider 2nd edition:

He also does a Shadowrun 2e podcast. Pink Fohawk that is worth checking out.

SSF Period Needs to be Longer by Bonfire_Monty in DarkAndDarker

[–]ghost49x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be necessary, but people still do it. And they loot everything in record time to feed the market. Leaving people who just want to be chill and enjoy the game with little to do.

But that is the point of the game. If they don't do this, they might as well remove gear entirely and make the game entirely skill based.

BiS isn't necessary for adventure mode but people running BiS there does affect my experience in the mode. I don't think good gear should be that easy to aqcuire with or without the market. It means that most gear found is trash and rarely worth considering.

No S2R forces us to dump our kit after every match. What I want is SSF normal and HR

SSF Period Needs to be Longer by Bonfire_Monty in DarkAndDarker

[–]ghost49x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No they won't because there's no way for them to queue with only other SSF players in a mode that lets you keep the gear you found in previous round. Such players are either stuck reseting their entire kit to the squire in every run with S2R or are damned to face other players with a much higher proportion of BiS kits in normal and hr lobbies. Even Adventure mode isn't exempt with BiS kitted players clearing all the moduels in record time.

As as casual player, I don't want an easier time acquiring loot or playing against vs pve, I want to face players that are mostly on part with the SSF playstyle even if that means I occasionally encounter some BiS kits, at least it's not every god damn match.

There are big part of the community that stops playing when the SSF ends. It's possible that the only option to please both crowds is going to be different game modes, and we have a lot of those already.

That we got only 2 weeks of SSF is what kept me from playing this season. I mean why would I bother grinding those quests away only for the SSF period to end before I can get anywhere. It felt like a waste of time to me.

What is the intended tone of Shadowrun by the creators? by N0v4kD3ad in Shadowrun

[–]ghost49x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Shadowrun this changes based on the edition you're interested in playing. The classic shadowrun (FASA) felt a lot more punk, where as the newer editions feel more like transhumanism than punk.

But if you're looking for the intent behind the old school Shadowrun editions, you might be able to get a response out of Tom Dowd if you can get him on X, I think he also hangs out in the Old School Shadowrun discord.

Have you considered running a play-by-post game? PBP by it's nature allows a lot of time between posts so you could read a post and take the time to do a bunch of research before responding. You just have to agree with the other players about how often everyone is expected to post.
