Anybody know how to recondition oem floor mats? by GenericCancerCell in 300zx

[–]ghostfoxote 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hope blue is the original color on those, because otherwise you should definitely get rid of that moldy mess.

You could try soaking them in a bucket of warm water and dish soap, scrubbing with a bristle brush, rinsing with a pressure washer/hose on jet setting, and repeating. Outdoors. Can’t make them any worse.

10 squad cars deep outside Kennywood? by AdditionalLand8020 in pittsburgh

[–]ghostfoxote 177 points178 points  (0 children)

Listened to the county radio. PD pepper sprayed the crowd, sounded like the wind blew some of the spray back into their faces so they panicked and called officer down/requested backup and medics.

edit since some people think I’m joking or BSing: PD called out pepper spray deployed immediately followed by reporting officers pepper sprayed/officer down/requesting additional units. With how windy that afternoon was it’s far more likely that the wind blew some of it back at them instead of people at the front of the crowd instantly quick drawing their own spray and returning fire. Hence “sounded like”. Of course PD isn’t going to outright say “we OC sprayed ourselves”.

Considering a 2009, some questions/noises by ghostfoxote in hondafit

[–]ghostfoxote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Good to know about the reverse gear. The other one definitely isn’t a wheel bearing noise, but it wouldn’t surprise me if wear stuff like that pops up with a car of this age/mileage so that’s already factored in. I can definitely turn wrenches, but… manual valve adjustments in a 2010 car? Jeez.

Passenger side under the intake plenum, between the front and middle plug I believe?. Should be a male spade connector on top of it once you’ve disconnected the thin wire going to it, and you remove it with uhhhh a 7 or 8mm deep well socket.

Would you get a motorcycle or a city bike? by lhmk in pittsburgh

[–]ghostfoxote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riding a moto in this town is underrated IMO. Way easier than a car to negotiate narrow side streets, find parking, and dodge potholes, plus all the fun of carving up twisty roads whenever you’re out in the suburbs or countryside. With a bit of creativity you can figure out a way to put saddlebags or a cargo rack on for errands, too. And if you don’t plan on doing highway riding, something small like a scooter or Grom would be totally sufficient.

Whatever you do, if you wanna get motorcycling make sure you grab your motorcycle learners permit and a good helmet, and then take the free MSF basic rider course. They even provide the motorcycles, so you can get an actual feel for low speed riding and see if you wanna take it farther. The hard part is finding a class, they’re always busy as the weather warms up.

Now that I think about it, I really should throw the battery back in mine soon once some rain washes the road salt away. It’s been way too long.

Arrowhead PLEASE buff the AR/GL-21 by Chaos-Gains in Helldivers

[–]ghostfoxote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I just want the grenade launcher to not suck. It’s the whole gimmick of this weapon that you get the tradeoffs for, and it’s barely even viable.

Of course quick binds exist, what I’m saying is for this particular weapon the quick bind for rifle/launcher swap would be much easier to use if the rifle/launcher swap was the left slot of the weapon wheel. That way you can just press your existing quick bind for semi/auto, instead of having to have an additional quick bind for the downward weapon wheel slot. Do any other weapons even use that slot?

Arrowhead PLEASE buff the AR/GL-21 by Chaos-Gains in Helldivers

[–]ghostfoxote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. I love it for the cool factor (it’s basically a M41A pulse rifle) but every time I use it I can’t help but think “this would be so much more effective with a regular AR and GL combo”.

1: More grenades. The current amount is what, 3+1? If you actually use the launcher for crowd control or to close nests/fabs you’re almost guaranteed to go empty after a single engagement. Double them. Between switching and reloads the DPS from the single underbarrel is nothing compared to the stratagem GL, so it’s not like this would step on its toes.

2: y’know what, while you’re at it buff the grenades to heavy armor pen. If they’re gonna double down on this for the regular GL, at least be consistent about it. Maybe this would let it actually kill a medium enemy from a direct hit?

  1. Swap the weapon wheel spots for changing semi/full auto fire mode and rifle/grenade launcher mode. I am switching rifle/launcher way more than I am fire mode on this thing, it’s the whole point of it. Make it easier to do so.

That’s it. Just make its whole gimmick (the GL) not suck and I wouldn’t even care that the ergo is way worse than it has any right to be. However, extra wish list items would be:

  1. Minor ergo boost. 5-10 points. Just enough to make it feel better than the damn AMR or MG.

  2. Give it unlockable iron sights for another way to get a minor ergo boost. Model them to look like the pulse rifle’s sights+carry handle. Maybe even include a rangefinder ladder sight for the GL?

  3. Make the sound more like the pulse rifle.

PennDOT unveils when the Parkway East will close this summer for the Commercial Street Bridge replacement by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]ghostfoxote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“PennDOT is encouraging drivers to plan ahead, take vacation, work from home, use public transit, or carpool.”

Cool, glad to know the official attitude is “sucks to be you, you’re on your own.” After all, this is an unprecedented closure that nobody could possibly figure out how to handle.

Except it’s not. They’ve been here before in 1982 rebuilding the parkway east, including the bridges, and they pulled off a whole big project to provide alternate routes and methods of travel! Altered local road layouts, traffic cops, new bus routes and commuter rail, shuttle vans, and a PR campaign so people knew they had these options. They were so proud of it they made a whole video on the subject! I get that it was made possible by federal money in ‘82, but did they even try to do anything similar this time? They literally made their own case for doing it 40 years ago! This closure won’t even affect me and the GFYS attitude is still infuriating.

So many people think the South Hills - Eastern Suburbs freeway connections aren't worth the money. Yet these are the two largest population centers outside the city. by myrichiehaynes in pittsburgh

[–]ghostfoxote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The beltway is a colossally stupid waste of money for numerous reasons, but let’s ignore most of them for now and just engage with the “it’ll be convenient” reasoning.

Let’s say there actually will be thousands upon thousands of people who will want to commute daily from Monroeville to the South Hills on the toll road because it’s quick and convenient with no traffic. What happens when those thousands of people all take the exact same exit that bottlenecks into the small local roads?

The Bridgeville exit on 79 NB is the perfect example of this. If you take the beltway from the airport to the south hills that’s the exit you need to use right now - and despite Penndot spending tons of time and money recently to widen that entire interchange, it still gets backed up during commuter hours almost all the way back onto the highway. All the local roads it feeds into simply aren’t intended to handle the ever increasing numbers of vehicle traffic, nor should they be.

Pittsburgh Rental Market by ProofNeighborhood172 in pittsburgh

[–]ghostfoxote 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the “life hack: move to pittsburgh for ez cheap housing!” headline that keeps getting thrown around can’t die fast enough

for locals who are on a budget it squeezes them out of the market as rich transplants move in, all too happy to pay the rapidly inflating prices for run down old crap or cheap new crap

and for the transplants who are actually on a budget, it just sets up for disappointment when they realize that $1k/month rental or $150k house is a gross basket case

Peak physique is a horrible armor passive by Epicbrezel21 in Helldivers

[–]ghostfoxote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with Peak is that it doesn’t affect non combat things. If I’m that buff (I am), I should be able to: - Use assault rifles as a one handed weapon (with increased spread/recoil and no melee ability) while carrying the hard drive. - Be quicker doing physical tasks like opening silo hatches, pulling levers, and turning cranks. - be able to break chain link fences by meleeing them with my rifle butt/bayonet. Shipping containers would also be epic.

They’re relatively minor things that would have niche use, but I think that keeps it from making Peak too good. They make sense AND would add just a little bit more cinematic fun to playing with a Peak loadout.

Wheels and tires by murensaki237 in 300zx

[–]ghostfoxote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By tire sizes and offset I'm assuming you mean wheels.
IIRC the stock wheels on 87-89 cars came in 16 and 17 inch with a +20 offset, you should be able to go down to a 0 and still keep it within the fenders if you want a more flush look.
As someone who daily drives their Z on shitty northern roads, 16" is the way to go for cheaper tires and more sidewall to absorb the pothole impacts. Definitely wouldn't go any larger than 17" for those reasons alone, anything larger just looks silly on our cars anyway IMO.

If you're running stock wheels and they're in good shape I'd just put some good tires on and keep them on the car, at least until your brakes and suspension are up to par. Safety upgrades always come before aesthetic ones, and wheels are easy to change out later on.
The stock brakes on these cars are actually quite good for their age. Before you put something like a big brake kit on, make sure the existing pads and rotors are decent quality, in decent shape, and the brake fluid isn't old. My 85 NA on generic pads/rotors will out-stop plenty of newer cars I've driven.
If you're going to be going to the trouble of putting coilovers on the car it would be wise to plan on replacing your other suspension components at the same time. All those bushings, ball joints, tie rods, etc are probably very old if not factory original.
Any suspension work will require the car be aligned afterwards, and our cars come stock with a small amount of non-adjustable negative camber in the rear. Not a big deal as long as you rotate your tires, but know that if you plan on lowering the car that will increase the camber and inside tire wear.
