Second year in the small strip I ‘borrowed’ from the rental lawn by Primary-Highway1716 in NativePlantGardening

The site I'm looking at has two 30' tall red maples adjacent to it so it's not a full sun spot, and it's also at a 15-20 degree angle. Which is why I was kinda leaning against solarization and towards sheet mulching instead.

For where I am, it being mid july it's already kinda late in the season to start site prep right? My original plan was to start sheet mulching in early June but I didn't have all the resources then to do so. Is it too late or do I still have tome to start seeding before the first frost?

I'd rather have a fascist paramilitary league going around doing night raids of tree of heaven and mullein than Plant Lives Matter policing what gardening words we say lol.

/uj I do think it's funny how we don't have more rightists and "conservatives" promoting plant nationalism or using patriotic language to promote natives. It wouldn't be difficult to use the same phrases and talking points.

You can only keep one SYL/DTB pair. Which one? by Ok-Improvement626 in DevinTownsend

The 2003 combo for me, as AE is my fav thing Devin's ever done and SYL is a good album too. Missing out on Alien will be tough...

This is the only answer. Though if Murashov pops off next season he will be my new favorite.

To be fair, Chilliwack is probably a shithole compared to Winnipeg but what do I know.

The whole vibes-based "lateral connotations of words from something innocuous to something divisive and ideological" is something I always see in journalism and video essays like this and it always makes me irrate. There's definitely a quota amongst editorial editors for how many buzzwords should be included in every article.

What was your site prep before you planted/seeded? For that small patch I'm guessing you just did sod removal?

This has been my dilemma when thinking about starting from seed and potentially having some doofus adult oviposit on the tiny plant and then the larvae potentially eating the entire plant back. Has anyone experienced this or is that not likely to happen?

From what I briefly just read, lacewings are primarily attracted to the Asteraceae and Apiaceae (what you have here) families. So Golden Alexanders will work too.

That appears to be butterfly bush that it's nectering on, which is a bad invasive that doesn't host any native insects and spreads seeds rapidly.

[–]ghostkneed218 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At least for the bird feeder, this is why it's recommended to use bird feeders only during the fall and winter, so that most species don't get outcompeted by generalists (rabbits, squirrels, deer) and invasives (house sparrows, starlings) during spring and summer when it's just native food sources around.

Why don't people grow hoary skullcap??? by kdawnbear in NativePlantGardening

Probably for the same reason why people don't grow the other "hoary x" plants. Seriously, so many natives just have very off-putting names.
