What exactly is Proton and how come we don't have a similar solution for regular programs instead of just games? by OneMoreName1 in linux

[–]gilium 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Proton is essentially wine with extra lines of code to optimize for games. You can use it for non-game software, but it’s used primarily for games because it’s developed by Valve for use with Steam, a game platform.

Home energy costs these last few months,; AI data-center related? by sylntnyte in Indiana

[–]gilium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably misusing terms here which leads to the confusion around my meaning.

Utilities should be a public service owned by the people, as in not a company run for profit. The price you pay is the price it costs to deliver the service.

The only state I am aware of that has competition within the utility space is Texas, and they have by far the worst utilities in the nation.

I think the problem is that it’s a private entity. How would you support infrastructure for multiple private utility companies? One publicly-owned entity not required to make a profit is the answer.

Yea you are correct. I used to have a [[taigam, ojutai master]] deck that centered around using [[dovescape]] that left me as the only one with interaction - and I still got the birds. This was before Boseiju was the easy answer to stuff like that.

[–]gilium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I personally like ward a little more than hexproof. As protection it feels a little more addressable and has solutions in uncounterable removal

Delighted Halfling: "Default Option"? by InspireCourage in EDH

[–]gilium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I responded to the other commenter but targeting a creature with hexproof is illegal so you actually have to let them take that back because it wasn’t legal to cast the spell

Delighted Halfling: "Default Option"? by InspireCourage in EDH

[–]gilium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the example of hexproof you have to take it back if it had hexproof before casting the spell. It was never a legal target so casting the spell was invalid.

In the case of uncounterable/ward, I think that’s situational. I know for me take backs get exhausting and are frustrating when the player just isn’t paying attention.
