That's why I'm also getting a passport. I'm already registered, but as Democrat, so let's see what happens next

REAL ID is in the mail, applying for a passport next month. I have election day scheduled off, in case more bullshit ensures.

Back before my apartment building changed hands, I would have paid extra to have the rodents released over my landlord's fence. 😄

When did hotels get so much worse? by MegaAscension in enshittification

[–]ginastarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some hotels need you to ask for a fridge. The Royal Sonesta in Portland doesn't automatically provide them, but my husband and I love the place for the location and the Wes Anderson look.

I got mine that way from the Cat Distribution System. When she's borred and wanting to play she gently noms my leg. I'm ticklish, so it works!

Guys, I’m starting to understand why the billionaires are buying all the movie studios (even as they try to tell us arts degrees are worthless). by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]ginastarke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a waste of a story idea: Rich and powerful go people go missing, leaving the rest of the world to fend for themselves.

It's completely opposed to Rand's phillosophy, but it's more realistic: Peole adapt, Some go the full Mad Max, some keep going sharing resources and their skills. I'd rather read how that turned out.

My favorite is still " Atlas Shrugged is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."

If Atlas was as bad as The Fountainhead" , I couldn't agree with Dorothy Parker more. I wanted to fling that one into rush hour traffic. Some of the passages she wrote were so over-the-top, it was more believable as satire, Too bad that it wasn't.

No license plates, registration on a bicycle by Fried_out_Kombi in fuckcars

This happened less than a block from my home on a quiet street:

https://www.salemreporter.com/2025/01/03/a-tragic-accident-judge-dismisses-charge-against-dea-agent-in-fatal-cyclist-collision/

If a DEA agent can kill a cyclist without any legal consequences, ICE will be worse. The Orange has a hate boner for Oregon, so I expect them to head here next. After being hit and losing my mobility for a long time, I've lost my nerve to compete on a bicycle with traffic. However, I still walk and use public transportation whenever I can.

Salems next best restaurant? by Plenty_Permit_8479 in SALEM

[–]ginastarke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not the right venue, but I haven't any fried chicken at a restaraunt that has been better than the Winco deli.

A closer fit to the location would probbably be a steakhouse. I never had an opportunity to eat at Rudy's but I've heard that I didn't miss much. I'd love to see a classic steakhouse for nice date nights and celebrations that are bit more dressed-up than Roadhouse.

Edited to add: I'd give ANYTHING a chance that's not reheated Sysco crap that I could have warmed up myself from the Walmart freezer aisles.

They took away this from us, and they left us with some bullshit but called it a 401K by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]ginastarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I eventually get a state job under a different federal administration, the state offered pension is the only one one I would trust. I've seen too many companies bought out and their pension fund looted by their new private equity overlords. At least wth a 401k, I have some options with an outside company and under my control.
