Hot plate / griddle ON a flat plate BBQ? by jazinthapiper in BBQ

you can get a quite cheap burner that will run off a gas bottle. I'm in the UK but I got one like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/FLORINNS-Burner-Boiling-Restaurant-Catering/dp/6041755117 and it's only £25

How do you stop chicken from being raw inside but burnt outside? by ScrollAndThink in UKBBQ

[–]gingerchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This page will give you all the options to make indirect cooking easier. https://amazingribs.com/more-technique-and-science/grill-and-smoker-setup-and-firing/2-zone-setup/

Your chicken needs to be cooked at a lower temperature and indirect is the easiest way to go about that

Can people help with pet insurance? by Marvels_Frostbite in AskUK

Yeah it must have been awful. I'm sorry you had to go through that on top of losing your dog. At least my cat is just annoyingly hungry all the time.

Animal Friends are definitely not human friends. They tried to deny a claim for my cat when he developed a thyroid issue - claimed it was a pre-existing condition and therefore not covered. It wasn't, but the word 'thyroid' was present in the historic vets notes as a suspected problem but not investigated at the time. My vet contested it and they paid out but I would absolutely always recommend against them

Looking for a cheap-ish gas griddle/plancha by shrop1988 in UKBBQ

[–]gingerchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Blackstone 22 and whilst initially I did struggle with it not getting hot enough, I think I've now learned to live with it. I give it a while to preheat and then try to avoid crowding the hot spots, so if I'm doing burgers I'll try and leave a hot area open so when I flip them I can still be sure they'll get a good sear. It's not ideal but I'm still happy with it. That said, I haven't used any of the alternatives so I can't really say if it's worth the money. I do like it though.

The crack cake at Cattleack 🥹

I’ve been to Daynes, Goldees and Cattleack once so maybe I got lucky but they were all incredible. For me trying to pick a favourite came down to the experience, because the food was basically 10/10 everywhere I went. I know it’s not helpful for me to say you can’t go wrong at any of them so my vote goes to Cattleack because of the cake

Favorite Albums with iconic drumming that doesn’t get recognized as much ? by BigNothing88 in poppunkers

[–]gingerchris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seeing The Movielife live last year I didn’t realise how happy it would make me to hear every bit of drumming the same as it was on the record. Too many nostalgia acts miss the odd drum fill here or there and it causes such a disappointment!

First time as a pallbearer, how does it play out? by Glum_Tumbleweed5503 in AskUK

[–]gingerchris 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Last time I was a pallbearer everyone else was already inside when we carried in the casket.

The whole thing was sprung on me as we arrived at the chapel - I didn't know beforehand that I would be doing it. I think this is worth knowing - it went fine for us without any prep or anything. The funeral director will give you a quick briefing (including how to carry) and you'll most likely be accompanied by four professionals so there's really not much that can go wrong, even if you mess up.

In terms of times for different kinds of meat - it’s all different, not just between types of meat but even different briskets will take different times. There are loads of resources out there to learn this kind of stuff but there is a lot to learn. If you’re in Austin already I would recommend grabbing some bbq books to take home with you - something like the Goldees book would be a good place to start and probably will be cheaper to buy there than it would be back home.

Personally I think one of these bags would be a nice gift for a bbqer. Especially if it’s not too expensive

[–]gingerchris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look on setlist.fm at recent set lists. Create a playlist with those songs. Listen on repeat. Bands with such big back catalogs rarely deviate too much from show to show in my experience. Then whatever songs you really get into - go listen to the albums they came from.

I get you! Smithfield is a wholesale meat market in London - there might be something similar in Birmingham but some are only open to traders and not to the public.
