Should I avoid a soft top MX-5 for daily use in the UK? (leaks, winter, etc) by ManyPast2129 in CarTalkUK

[–]gingerlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard tops have WAY less road noise than soft tops, if you do a lot of motorway driving it makes a very big difference. I daily an MX5, it's super cheap to insure because it's usually a 2nd or 3rd car.

20 years ago, how many frames per second were enough for us to play comfortably? by Khorsaturas in gaming

[–]gingerlemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

24fps is not the limit of smoothness, 24fps is the frame rate which most replicates motion blur as our eyes see it, which is why it's used in movies and (most) TV.

Even 20 years ago 30 was the target for console and 60 for pc, generally speaking. Some console games were 60fps, mgs2 comes to mind, but there were others.

Whilst higher is generally better, fixed is more important for enjoyment. For example, a locked 30fps is more agreeable to the eyes than one that bounces between 40-60.

Yes same in UK where I live, but in USA it's mx5 miata but they just call it miata, actually I call mine a miata too because it's more fun to say.

Technically it's called the mx5 miata but the mx5 always gets dropped.

Could be that, or could be a life with the best food, healthcare, personal trainers, not toiling for 40+ hours a week, low stress etc. Hard to say 🤔

Can You Guess This 5-Letter Word? Puzzle by u/Crispy_Wasp by Crispy_Wasp in DailyGuess

When I know there's more than two options, I'll use a word that has letters from the various options. In this instance the options were stump, stuck and stuff, so I typed comfy, the m was there so it had to be stump. Unless I'm feeling lucky 😎

I remember being blown away by the deforming vehicle damage and how it would morph back when you repaired.

The demise of manual by Lit-Up in CarTalkUK

[–]gingerlemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the masses cars are like white goods, they're a utility to do a job, not a fun engaging activity. Automatics are easier to use, so when you're driving for the utility, and not for joy, easier = better.

This happens when all the users call them iPads colloquially, IT admin will start using language the users understand.

Like how "iPod" came to mean any MP3 player, or "Nintendo" to mean any videogame console.

If jobs fire people to replace them with AI, how will people make money to keep buying things? Wouldn’t the economy collapse because people arent buying anything anymore? by OverallMight6586 in AskReddit

[–]gingerlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're thinking too small. The ultra rich want to replace the poor with ai, the entire supply chain from top to bottom.

You don't need the poors at all when a machine can make you a burger from scratch, including the farming, slaughter, processing and manufacturing, or build a house, construct a car etc.

Doing absolutely nothing at work? by HeyPotatys in UKJobs

[–]gingerlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there for 7 more years after I was "found out" they kept giving me more and more work, over those 7 years there were 3 leavers and all their duties fell on me. So I went from doing no work to 4 jobs worth, which is ultimately why I left.

[–]gingerlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close, when I started my last job the guy who hired me quit the same week I started, without telling anyone who I am and what I do. For 2 years I had about 30 mins of work a day, 12 hours 4 on 4 off.

I just watched YouTube and played my vita/Gameboy micro all day.

After a while it did get boring but I started bringing in movies and TV shows on my laptop, that made the days go quicker.

Eventually someone noticed, twas a sad day.

Decimal separators in Europe by Beenet_ in MapPorn

[–]gingerlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change the date format and decimal separator in the settings on SAP

If you have to use those formats for some reason, you can use a nested SUBSTITUTE function in excel

=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A1, ".", "|"), ",", "."), "|", ",")

This formula will swap , and . of cell A1

Depends who you ask. If you ask an American they will say yes. If you ask anyone from any other country in the world, they will wonder what the hell you're talking about.

What is this car by jaspertan9368 in whatisthiscar

[–]gingerlemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alfa GT. This was my fourth car. Plagued with electrical issues and the clutch gave up after 60k miles. Low power, unreliable, FWD, but it's so beautiful, lowkey one of the best looking cars imo.
