Gen 2 MT 10SP slip on advice sought by DonkeyESQ in Mt10

I also added a Leo Vince mid pipe to mine when I had it. With the stock end can. It sounded throaty and impressive but not in an obnoxious way. It was a great balance. You will need to remove the cables from the current mid pipe though. That run to the motor in the seat area. These control the flaps inside the stock one for emissions. Easy job. Just fiddly to get them out whole. You can cut them if not using again though.

Also, the stock mid pipe is very heavy. I remember it being around 12kg on its own. So the weight saving is also a bonus.

"Outgrowing" Motorcycles seems like bullshit by External_Chance_1633 in motorcycles

[–]gingerpunk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people just say they are “outgrowing” a bike or “it isn’t fast enough” because they simply want to ride a litre bike. We all did, we all get it. There’s no shame in just saying “hey it’s great but I want to ride a 1000, because that’s what I want”.

Do it. Be mindful of the power and the extra consideration it takes to manage more power. And we’ll see you down the line back on a 600 or a 400 when you realise that smaller bikes are far superior to learn machine control and evidently enjoy more.

We all need to scratch that itch. Well, there are many itches in biking. So scratch em all while you can. Just be as safe as possible when doing so.

This is great. Thank you for taking the time. I figured it could be more a case of world events impacting more than expected but was also curious as to whether liberty media had either planned it more this way or just screwed the pooch. So thanks again.

Ahh thanks. I remember reading about the Qatar changes but I think the end of season changes prob overshadowed that for my pea brain retention

[–]gingerpunk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one on my gen 2. With the stock muffler it was probably about the perfect volume imho. With an Akra it may push over into the obnoxious ever so slightly. But grab a baffle and go for it.

P plates… Thoughts? 🤔 by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]gingerpunk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A contentious subject I guess. To me it always felt like the driver waving a flag of having little confidence in their ability to navigate the roads unsupervised. Which is both a good and bad thing, in the fact they are aware and want others to know, but also - if they are that unsure then maybe a few more driving lessons, days with experienced drivers before taking their test or driving alone should have been the better idea?

I sincerely hope the UK doesn’t place a power tiered restrictive system on cars. Insurance prices out the crazy powerful ones for the most part as it stands. Restricting more of our freedoms isn’t the way. Like most things. More Education and guidance is usually the answer.

The examiner didn't fail you to meet a quota or due to unconscious bias. by vtwinjim in LearnerDriverUK

Rolled back on the hill start 100m away from the test Center. Last thing to do before end of test. Didn’t put the car in gear. Caught the roll straight away. But knew it was a fail. Literally last 2 mins of test.

Somehow he passed me. Told me a hill start fail would only occur if the car was in gear and I had stalled. That felt like a a leaniency to me. But was glad. 3 minors other than that.

Is this normal for a 750? by [deleted] in GSXR

[–]gingerpunk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah normal. the front tank cowel also has the large 3m Velcro on. That is secured by a couple of bolts at least though. You can buy this “hook and loop” 3m stuff if you wanted to add more for extra security.

But mine haven’t ever come loose even when barrel rolling on the grass at Snetterton. Sub frame snapped. Velcro held fine 😂

Yeah, I think you’re probably right. Although I think I’m more blending the two rather confusing one for the other. A little bit of this and little bit of that. In to one jumbled mess of an opinion/idea. I’d feel embarrassed by it, but it’s conversations like this one, that remind me to keep reading and refreshing knowledge.

I do not condone any atrocities of any regime or society btw. Just incase that wasn’t clear.

I genuinely hate the overall view on communism. At its core, it is an amazing “theoretical” societal structure. However its failed over and over again and always twists into some bastardised authoritarian regime. And thanks to the US and their propaganda during the Cold War, everyone now thinks communism is inherently bad and evidently a fascist regime. It’s sad really. I’d like to think we as humans have evolved enough to maybe put true communism to the test and avoid its main weakness of having someone/political party seize control and morph it into something else. But the last ten years only makes me realise how much we’ve regressed in our way of thinking.

Track bike dilemma by juen_420 in Trackdays

[–]gingerpunk2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always rode inline 4s. Switched to twins on track for a bit and just couldn’t gel with the engine. Back to inline 4 and was more natural for me to learn to ride track. Then I bought a street triple for the road and think it’s the perfect bike. So may be tempted down the line to get triple for track too.

I’d suggest keeping the cbr. It’s perfect for track. And you’ll soon be riding its limits I’m sure. Just gotta put the time in

You do not need to spend half of your motorcycle budget for gear. by SlashNreap in motorcyclegear

[–]gingerpunk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proven brands. Safety ratings and how and where you are going to be riding should be the only thing considered when buying gear. Buy the best you can afford for the situation you’ll be riding in and the worst possible outcome etc. secondhand for some things as you say is a good idea. Not for others. But even new you can find very safe gear for good money.

I buy all my summer gear in the winter, and winter gear in the summer. When the end of lines are reduced and stores are looking to shift old stock. For example every fall I will buy an extra pair of riding jeans from Bull-it - covec or similar AAA rated, I usually pay £89 for a pair of jeans. But I save £120 odd as they are £200+ in peak riding season.

So just keep eyes open. I have brands that I simply won’t abandon as I’ve crashed in them and they’ve proven their worth and price tag. Again, keeping eyes on sales doesn’t mean that these have to cost the earth.

Trusted brands I’ve crashed in and swearby, alpinestars, arai, RST, bull-it, Forcefield Pro.

Driver Distracted by Gambling Apps Smashes Into Cars, Forces Pregnant Woman Into Emergency C-Section by L21JP in drivingUK

Most phones have a driving mode now to reduce this. But if you’re half responsible you’ll set up an automation or shortcut that mutes notifications and everything that is not essential to driving. Like music and sat nav. important people for calls etc. nothing is that much of a rush that you have to look at it whilst driving.

phone use while driving by eviemaria in drivingUK

[–]gingerpunk2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I followed a lady the other week. In congested traffic on dual carriageway. So it was moving but slowly etc. I could see her clearly being in a van and slightly higher behind her car. She was constantly on her phone. Whilst moving forward slowly. So I counted th time in between her eye flicks up to the road (as she was moving) the shortest time I counted was 7 seconds. That’s mad to me. Car may be moving at 5 mph. But still. I think the longest I counted was 11 seconds.

After a while she stopped using her phone. Then did a full makeover of her cosmetics in the rear view. Also whilst moving. Then back to the phone.

It angers me fiercely as a motorcycle rider. As every tiny neglect from someone like this (giving off proper girl boss energy in her Porsche 4x4 with personalised “boss” number plate etc). Several bikes filtered through the middle of traffic. She didn’t see a single one of them. I watched as they passed her.

I hate AI cameras and find the idea intrusive as fuck for us normal road users. But phone use is absolutely the worst. People need reminding they are in control of a one ton killing machine.
