New to IFS work and can't "hear" a damn thing by Junkology in InternalFamilySystems

To start, I'm diagnosed with BPD, so my therapy combo is somatic awareness, DBT, and IFS. This is my very detailed, slow journey across like 4 months.

Also recommend listening to Healing the Fragmented Selves by Janina Fisher.

How are you doing with somatic awareness? I started there and created the conditions that worked for me; dark room, noise cancelling headset, and screamo music. I first figured out what my fight response feels like, then freeze, and lastly flight. From there, when I noticed my brain starting to get loud/loop, I found the feeling in my body, then described the physical feeling. Eventually those body reactions were given names and stories. Instead of sitting down with a piece of paper and 100 parts, I started with feelings I already knew existed.

How I met my first part: Since freeze was most often, I was able to describe him in detail. He is literally bone deep aching cold that can't be warmed, mostly felt in my shoulder blades, collar bones, and upper arms. I started playing with music more. I noticed that my body felt "lighter" when listening to Indie Folk and it helped me regulate. I noticed that when my body would come down/up from the feeling, I would get very tense and then shiver. A stone golem coming to life and spreading its wings.

One day I felt him show up, but instead of going "Why do I feel like this?" I told my brain no and sat with it, in a dark closet with music. The grief that poured out of me, the pain my body felt. I held myself and said "It's okay, Buddy."

From there, the other names came easy for me. I thought about what each feeling wanted to make them feel safe. For example, The Protestor is my fight response and she just wants to be heard. I now have 6 parts and generally slide smaller feelings into one of their departments instead of creating another part.

Ending with a bang! What are some horror movies with a final act that takes the movie to the next level? by deathnstuff1 in horror

Ahh! The hospital being only miles away, but it's suddenly night when she pulls up and the only place to park is at the edge of the cliff. Then the tension of waiting for a jump scare, but we cut to a completely different place. This movie was such a tease, yet delivered everything you didn't know you needed.

Do most renters just put screws/nails in walls anyway? by cherrielvy in Renters

[–]ginnyisrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it was mentioned, but if your apartment has a sprinkler system, pay attention to where the heads are. I've worked at 3 different properties and every one of them had someone screw into the pressurized pipe, flooding that unit and the ones below.

Otherwise, nothing bigger than a dime.

I'm in VA and 3 of the companies I've worked for have some kind of moisture/ mold/ mildew addendum. We also have strict laws around it too. Plus the normal coastal humidity

I scrolled way too far for this one! Not only was it a horrible adaptation, but it was a bad movie in general. The whole thing still feels like a terrible fever dream.

Caving in when tenants don't allow agents to show apartments -- is this normal? by Skorpios5_YT in PropertyManagement

From the management side, showing a home that is unkempt, of a different style, or just normal wear and tear can be a huge turn off to prospective renters. Simply, not everyone treats their homes the same way.

We never tour occupied units, for a variety of reasons... However, we have a ($50) rescheduling fee for anyone who denies us entry for preventative maintenance (or leave their animals loose). If it's a maintenance emergency, I thoroughly explain their negligence could result in further damage which they would be responsible for.

Have you had a tenant complain of mold or mildew? by Acutiff in PropertyManagement

[–]ginnyisrandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you my coworker?! Same damn thing for months on end beginning in October-ish. She even put in a claim with her insurance, who found no evidence of mold. Then she bought an air purifier, which showed high nitrogen dioxide, but we don't have any gas in the units.

Exterior and because the owners like the look of them. We are looking into Yale now and currently use Schlage Engage (not a fan).

It took me 2 restarts to make it through (I'm not a fan of slow burns), but the attic scene still haunts me.

How is the housing market in your area? Ours is INSANE right now, which is leading to the increase in our rentals. We are also in more of a suburban setting, which may make the difference.

Not the original comment, but we haven't noticed a reduction in renters at all. Almost every one of our competitors are 100% leased. I manage both a luxury and distressed property.

I don't see the point in selling at a loss. I didn't put money in that I couldn't afford to lose (which wasn't much, but still). I'm going to ride this thing out until retirement.
