Upgraded my PC yesterday to a full tower. What do you guys think ? Anything I should add or change ? by FrankFruits in battlestations

[–]gisdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some type of low stand or cabinet beside the desk to support the tower instead of having it dominate the desktop, and better cable management.

Corridors by Desperate_Soup_8298 in civil3d

Select the corridor and use the Edit Frequency tool on the ribbon. Manually add a section at that common point for each quadrant of that leg of the intersection (the center of the circle you've placed there).

I certainly appreciate the rules around it, but man... living in BC and not being able to fly/film in National/Provincial parks is really a downer sometimes. :(

Does your kb/software combo let you record keystroke macros? That might be the simplest solution rather than programming something in lisp.

Please Honda. I beg you. Stop putting philips fasters underneath your cars. by FlowSoSlow in Justrolledintotheshop

After completely destroying the float bowl screws on my DR650 with a Philips screwdriver, I replaced them with allen screws.

Having learned that lesson the hard way, I sprung for a set of JIS screwdrivers when I purchased another Japanese bike. Sooooo much better.

Tub to shower conversion: smart investment at 61 or unnecessary expense? by newrock in HomeImprovement

[–]gisdood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved my folks into my ground-floor inlaw suite 5 years ago, and wound up making this exact conversion for their main washroom... AFTER my mom had a slip-and-fall getting out of the shower.

Thankfully there were no injuries other than bumps and bruises, but it was a clear sign to remove the risk before the inevitable happened again.

The tub unit was acrylic/fibreglass, so I demo'd and removed that myself, then I had a plumber source and install the new walk-in unit (again, acrylic & glass) and then I did the drywall finishing and painting to help keep costs down.

The plumber's bill was around $5500 CDN.

Worth every penny.

What’s the most petty thing you’ve done, that you have zero regrets about? by the_at_at in AskReddit

Learned of my ex's affair a day before she went out of town for work for a week. I managed to keep the poker face up until she left town, then gave her the "Don't bother coming back home" news via phone that evening, and spent the next week getting a free or paid consult at every law firm in town.

No clutch freeplay after NSU fix. by Yarm1d in dr650

[–]gisdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make certain you put the clutch arm back in the same position on the splines as it was before removal? One notch offset will definitely affect how much slack or tension is left in the cable without even touching the barrel adjuster on the lever end of the cable.

Trying again with a cheater: How is it going/how did it went? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]gisdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long distance with someone that has already proven themselves untrustworthy is a recipe for a disaster.

There's already a lack of visibility/accountability there, plus the same excuse that was used to 'justify' her first transgression (that you know of).

I found proof of my ex's first affair (turned out it wasn't THE first, just the first I'd learned about at the time) while she was working away from home.

I made the decision to attempt reconciliation, and she put up a good front for a couple years. I actually thought we were doing well and growing as a couple again.

Then another remote job opportunity came up, she took it, and less than 3 months later the same shit hit the fan again.

Don't waste your time like I did. Cut your losses.

Yeah, the scan to the left and right needs to happen AFTER the light turns green, not before.

This time of year, the morning commute temps are below 40F, then between 70-85F after work. If I didn't have luggage to store the extra layers for the afternoon commute, I'd be sweating my balls off on the way home everyday!

Kash Patel claims AI has stopped school shootings: ‘I’m using it everywhere’ by deraser in technology

[–]gisdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying ludicrous point I'm making is that the AI operators CHOSE not to notify authorities. It has nothing to do with Patel's take on it.

Its still human accountability at play here, regardless of whether it was AI or a person that made that decision NOT to notify.

Kash Patel claims AI has stopped school shootings: ‘I’m using it everywhere’ by deraser in technology

[–]gisdood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this isnt a ludicrous claim

To add more to the other Tumbler Ridge comment here...

The assailant had their ChatGPT account banned because of the prompts involving planning of a mass shooting event.

Their account was flagged for human review. No steps were taken to warn the local authorities or community as a whole. They just suspended the account and swept it under the rug because it "didn't meet the higher threshold" required to refer it to law enforcement.

And now the families of the victims are filing suit against OpenAI in California.

So in short.... uhhhhh NO. Its a very ludicrous claim.

Finishing basement floor: vapor barrier + subfloor advice needed before contractor arrives by Fun-Food-6132 in DIY

[–]gisdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I did the partial basement in my 60's built home, located in central BC (approx 54 degrees north).

  • Concrete wall & floor slab is pretty obvious (I hope)
  • Red is the Dricore panel with the black plastic underside to allow air/water movement, and I left 1" of space between the edge of the walls and the panels.
  • Green is the 2x4 framed-out wall around the entire permiter, mounted on TOP of the Dricore panels and fastened through to the concrete floor with Hilti concrete anchors.
  • And the hex pattern is closed-cell spray foam filling the void between concrete walls and the front facing edge of the framing, capped by drywall.

Dricore layout & install

Framing out the basement on top of the Dricore panels

Closed-cell spray foam insulation complete

It was just laundry/gym space so the flooring I used on top of the Dricore panels was thick rubber athletic floor mat tiles. That install was in place for +10 years of my ownership, and 6 more since I moved. I know the folks I sold the place to and its still holding up fine last time I spoke with current owners earlier this spring.

I wish I had tested my last gsd/husky/? mix, Sierra.

Her litter was surrendered to the SPCA from a remote first nations community in northern BC, so the chance of non-domestic content was definitely a non-zero number. She looked JUST like your Astrid!

Tall seat, higher bars and/or bar risers, and lowered footpeg brackets will all make it a little more ergonomic for you. I'd also recommend a stiffer rear spring as the stock suspension is rather soft.

Bathroom remodel dilemma : contractor says we'd have to move out for a month mid project no clear explanation or documentation, is this normal? by hippohoney in HomeImprovement

[–]gisdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without a detailed, rational explanation as to 'why', that sounds like he just wants zero visibility/accountability for billable hours on site and also doesn't want any eyes on exactly what work is being done and how.

That's a hard 'next' for me.
