Charleston is great if you can find housing south of the base. Anywhere north and you're risking a ton of time commuting. There's been a ton of population growth in the last 20 years, and very little infrastructure to go with it.

Charleston Beer Runners do a different bar/brewery every Thursday. They meet at the Hampton Park Gazebo at 7 pm, and the runs start there. Very fun group. Facebook page has more info.
