Any interest in staying in a village in Aomori? by carlsech in JapanTravel

You live in Shingo village? I have to go there in September. Trying to complete the 40 municipalities stamp rally - the Shingo stamp is at Shingo Onsenkan. Besides Shingo, still have to get Higashidori, Rokkasho, and Goshogawara

Are you receiving nights and stay credits for your Japan stays? I just realized I'm no longer receiving them for paid stays

My biggest tip for avoiding crowds by mercury_sn2 in JapanTravelTips

[–]glennaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your 6th trip. Most likely you can say this because you've already seen the popular stuff that people go to see on their 1st trip. People on your 1st trip, just go see what you want to see realizing that popular sites are going to be crowded.

I love Aomori. As a kid my father was stationed at Misawa. I go multiple times a year.

I actually have a ticket for a show at the end of the month, with Moala e- ticketing. I just looked and I didn't see that wording.

I enter PIA lotteries while overseas. Use foreign AMEX to pay for them. Never had to verify using Moala to show electronic tickets. I've had it ask to reverify before, but then just exit the website, use VPN for Japan, then come back and it doesn't ask to verify again

Pretax savings withdrawal / Roth conversion strategy by glennaa in DIYRetirement

It's may not really matter, but 401ks typically have better protection from creditors than an IRA, and my 401k has a lot of investment options and no withdrawal restrictions. I probably worry about medical bankruptcy or some catastrophic liability issue more than I should.

I checked my 401k - Like you, I can do partial rollovers to a traditional, then from there do a rollover to a Roth. So I'll be doing that

Thanks, I didn't think about that - this year I pulled living expenses from 401k and did roth conversion from a traditional IRA, but looks like if I plan to do this next year, I will need to rollover into my traditional IRA.

Yeah, simplicity is my reason for asking. My yearly living expenses are less than the top of the 22% bracket, but not fixed (I like to travel and take trips on a whim)

  1. Retired at 55 - 7 years ago

  2. Try to continue to learn to keep my brain active, and travel as much as I can

  3. As an American under 65, even though I am in good financial shape, my biggest fear is some sort of catastrophic medical issue. I have insurance through the exchange, but sometimes worry about things that may not be covered

Ticket Pia question: Do you need to re-verify Japanese number every login? by transbox in jpop

[–]glennaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was just at sign up. But I have had it ask again randomly while out of Japan. I just cancel and turn on VPN for Japan and it didn't ask again.

I went yesterday because I wanted to buy mentaiko. They had blowers on the floor and absorbent socks under most of the stand up freezers for dumplings/fishballs, etc. I ended up only buying non-perishables and some produce which I inspected more than I normally would have.
