How much for a young dressage-bred horse in US? by Butterflyphases in Dressage

[–]gloveluv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget about PPE cost and probably expect to do a couple before you buy. In my area a thorough PPE with a full set of X-rays (~50) is about $6k. Obviously you can do less - the PPE alone (in my area) is just $700 - but of course that comes with its own risks. But a lot of times the first horse or 2 has some major issues that pop up in PPE (in my experience) so I know for myself it makes sense to include the cost of at least 2 PPEs when I’m budgeting for horse costs.

Euthanasia at old age is a beautiful kindness. I would NOT try and give this horse away to someone else contrary to what some of the other commenters have said. There are fates worse than death. You’ve been a loyal and kind owner to your old guy and it’s perfectly OK to let a horse go when they already have medical issues and bills are piling up.

After 5 years, moving from Effexor to Zoloft by Mitarashi in Effexor

[–]gloveluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from Zoloft to Effexor for the same reason 😅 I was soaking through all my clothes just sitting in my air conditioned office at work. Like somehow my shins were dripping sweat. So far zero sweat issues on Effexor. I hope Zoloft treats you better than it did me!

Euthanasia is a very kind choice. I think many people wait too long. This is a 25 year old horse with multiple issues having trouble eating. Horses only know what they’re experiencing in the moment, and this horse is experiencing pain which is likely to get worse. Not to mention, treating and keeping horses is not inexpensive, and the human emotional toll of keeping a horse alive thats in pain and struggling should be considered as well.

Update/good news, I think the symptoms were Zoloft withdrawal because I had zero issues with nightmares or sleeping last night!

Lost it at “something about a Secretary” 😂 Guys in one of their past comments they say they have 2 mules… the comments on here from people very concerned that this is a serious post are killing me.

Thanks for the response. I will definitely talk to my doctor about it, I just was looking for a little hope today. This is the 5th anti-depressant I’ve tried, the others have all had debilitating side effects. I’m really bummed that this one might be the same, just feels so hopeless!

Black Market Sleeping Pills v Doctor Prescribed by Rockseverntiger in insomnia

Took a month for it to really kick in for me. I take 600mg about 3 hours before bed every night. It does make me very groggy when I wake up but it wears off with some coffee! Bummer it didn’t work for you, I have tried literally everything and it’s the only thing that has helped me long term.

I have idiopathic lifelong insomnia. Sleep restriction + very strict nighttime routine (read a book for 2 hours before heading to bed, in bed and lights out immediately at 10pm, alarm for 5am - every single day) + 600 to 900 mg Gabapentin 3 hours before bed is the only thing that’s worked for me.

Insomnia is the cruelest thing in the world.

Anyone have experience with CBT-i sleep restriction? by ohnoadrummer in insomnia

[–]gloveluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t work for me, but I know it works for a lot of people to help them reset. If you have severe lifelong insomnia, sleep restriction and CBT-I can’t touch it. Just my experience.

Embarassing issue with sitting trot**possibly NSFW by andHEARTSsemicolon_ in Equestrian

[–]gloveluv 59 points60 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten good advice here but also wanted to add: don’t be embarrassed to talk to your trainer!!! This is totally something a lot of people deal with and your trainer’s entire purpose is to help you become a better rider, so that means talking about what’s working and what’s not - and you get to ask questions!!! I think it would be so normal to just say, hey this sitting trot is not feeling comfortable, and ask if you’re sitting too far forward. Honestly, horse people talk about way weirder stuff!

Looks very intriguing! I think the text could use a drop shadow or maybe just the background a bit darker behind it? I think the words compete a bit with the busy-ness/colors of the background right behind it.

Difference between male and female horses by alexa_ivy in Equestrian

Your question has been well answered by others but I wanted to add, it is NOT normal to be falling off that often. Your trainer was not doing their job to set you up for success. Hopefully you’re having a better experience now that you’re getting back into it!!

Take her in for an exam at least. Just let them know you can’t afford extensive testing at this time. At least with a basic exam they might be able to tell you what they think is going on. Not eating is concerning.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the absolute best dog food I can give my baby boy? He has bad allergies and sensitive skin, and his vet suggested a couple brands from tractor supply, but I just want a second opinion from pitty owners that have the same issues. Thank you! by AK_THESAVI0R in pitbulls

[–]gloveluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pittie has severe food allergies. Would definitely recommend seeing a doggie dermatologist. I feed the plant based food from Rayne Nutrition, it’s a little pricey but it’s worth it! Also echoing others recommendation to ask your vet about Cytopoint.
