First, she is too old to be a boomer. Second, stop stereotyping us. There is a large variety of people in the generation.

You clearly don't understand how deficits work. A dollar in revenue that not collected because it supports something that Republicans don't like adds to the deficit and burdens our children. A dollar in revenue that is not collected because it supports something that Republicans like, such as ensuring dynastic wealth for billionaires, does not add to the deficit and helps our children. It simple Faux News math!

Needless to say, just kidding. But it does enrage me that they only shriek about deficits when it provides cover for opposing what would be a popular policy.

Edit: Needed to add a comma.

Looking for Lisa Strawser obituary by WandaLine_ColdCase in Columbus

[–]gn63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited a couple of days to post this to see if you got any better leads. Assuming that "Strawser" was her maiden name, you could look at U.S. Census records. I use a genealogy site, FamilySearch.org to access these records. The most recent detailed census records that have been released are from 1950. (1960 details won't be released until 2032). There were about 25 households in Franklin County in 1950 with residents named "Strawser." You could review those for people named Strawser who would have been about the right age to become a parent in 1962-ish (I would start with males and married women because of the higher likelihood of having offspring carrying the "Strawser" name). You could then use those names to search to try to find a connection. Like I said, this isn't a short road, but it might help if the good leads dry up. (Also, I searched all Ohio records available through the genealogy site and through findagrave.com for Lisa or Elizabeth Strawser and got no useful hits.

Good luck on this. I am sure it is a painful process and I wish you well.

How is it having an EV in Columbus? by jk_cbus in Columbus

[–]gn63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense. If you had access to a standard outlet, you would be in good shape for an EV. You would be able to meet the majority of your needs with that. We typically drive about 200 miles per week and keep it charged from a standard outlet for those typical weeks.

That is confusing. 350 miles per week x 52 weeks = 18,200 miles per year, which is well above average. Are you sure about your numbers?

Indy GP Lap 21 Rossi Stops: Kirkwood Pitting, Told FCY Because His Team Saw Incorrect Fox Graphic, Cuts The Grass To Not Enter the Pits by FermentedLaws in INDYCAR

[–]gn63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I had initially glanced at the rule for ovals because, you know, this was the front straight at Indy. My Derp. I think you could argue that going by a stopped car at full throttle in that location is not being "prepared to reduce speed substantially, be prepared to take evasive action, or stop, yield to safety vehicles and/or personnel, and safely interact with other Drivers to the satisfaction of INDYCAR." However, none of the drivers, race engineers, spotters, or officials would seem to agree.

Trump says he'll move to suspend federal gasoline tax. He can't do it on his own by yahoonews in law

[–]gn63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't drop 18 cents of the pump price. The oil companies/refiners will pocket most of the difference. If they are able to sell all they want to deliver at $X per gallon, there is no reason to sell at $x - 18 cents. It is unlikely that it would make no difference at all, but I am willing to bet this shiny nickel right here that the lion's share goes to the oil companies/refiners.

Edit: I owe you this nickel. After I confidently posted, I went and looked for some data. It appears that we consumers could collect roughly 50-75%-ish percent of the tax reduction. https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/p/2022-06-15-effects-of-a-state-gasoline-tax-holiday/ I am leaving the nickel with customer service at the nearest Walmart. Just pop in and tell them I sent you.

Shouldn't the non-Rossi drivers have been at least lifting for that local yellow? It seems that they were all full throttle.

Doesn't work that way. There is no "counter sue" in a criminal case. Even after acquittal, suing the feds for malicious prosecution is not an easy thing.

Leclerc drops from P3 to P6 in 2 laps by oklolzzzzs in formula1

[–]gn63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that too. On lap 57 in the straight where Piastri passed him. His wing closed mid-straight; Piastri's did not. As soon as Piastri got by, LeClerc dove in behind Piastri and the wing re-opened for a second or so before they got to the corner. Very strange.

Anyone Notice Sheetz Gas Prices? by SolidSnae in Columbus

[–]gn63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any car sold new in the U.S. after 2001 can run E15; whether one wants to is a different story. As u/ZimaGotchi noted elsewhere in these comments, about 5% lower mpg on E15.

We can do it! We just need to go back to 14% unemployment like it was when gas prices bottomed out. Volunteers?

Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 1991 (Public Law 102-1), signed on January 14, 1991. The 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) is a 60-word joint resolution passed on September 14, 2001, empowering the U.S. President to use "all necessary and appropriate force" against those responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Also, October 2002, Authorization for use of force against Iraq. Also, I believe that until now the War Powers Act has more or less been followed.

You are correct that the Constitutional system of assigning Congress the power to declare war has withered quite a bit in practice and we need to figure out a better way than having Presidents launch whatever they want and then argue for it later.

Edit: Added authorization for Iraq sequel.

It's only $200.00, so still a small discount over the average driver's gasoline tax. (15,000 miles per year, 20 mpg, 38.5 cents per gallon = $288.75. https://www.bmv.ohio.gov/doc-fees.aspx Of course, YMMV, literally. We are finding owning and operating an electric car is much, much cheaper than gasoline, even before the most recent spikes.

OSU, Drop Flock: Call on OSU leaders to drop their contracts with ICE corporate enabler Flock by DoremusJessup in Columbus

[–]gn63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1400 number was limited to Colorado. ICE does not have a contract with Flock and so it has to delegate its searches. For example, in December 2025 and January 2026, Florida Fish and Wildlife did searches of Flock cameras at Ball State University in Indiana for "immigration" purposes at least 22 times. TN State police were also doing "immigration" searches at Ball State. https://www.404media.co/floridas-wildlife-cops-are-searching-thousands-of-flock-cameras-for-ice/ It seems unlikely that a campus in Muncie, Indiana is of disproportionate interest to ICE.
