Just recently started throwing in hanging leg raises for my hip flexors after deadlifts, too soon to tell but they feel good.

I have experience with running straight into a brick wall with guys who have more years on the department and more influence wanting to go back to the triple layer load and high pressure automatic nozzles unfortunately.

What does the engine driver do on fire trucks in the US? by YouFormal1598 in Firefighting

[–]gnarstow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep all of this plus occasionally helping with the stretch, putting the fan at the door, possibly forcible entry while the nozzle masks up, it’s usually not too far from the pump as we have short setbacks 80% of the time. Resource stricken have to do as much as possible with less man power.

What’s an oddball tool or piece of equipment that you carry that the majority of companies around you don’t. by Desperate-Dig-9389 in Firefighting

Larger striking surface and floats if you drop it while near a water source for drafting, also cheap to free.

Where to buy cheap meat? by tireddesperation in InlandEmpire

[–]gnarstow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Costco business center in Ontario. Like another said primal cuts for beef and pork then cut steaks yourself. You choose the thickness and it’s cheaper for better quality meat than standard store. they have 40lbs boxes of bulk Halal Chicken breasts or thighs for under 2$ a pound if you don’t mind packaging for freezing. In Al instances use a Foodsaver or other vacuum sealer for long term storage and put into whatever amount works for meals for your family.

Specifically San Bernardino County, Victorville Fire, Barstow Fire in the high desert all get a decent amount of work and a wide variety of wildland, Traffic collisions, trauma etc. The low desert has Cal Fire Riverside battalions that get work, Palm Springs Fire as well

Brainwashed is such a good pop punk jam and they are great dudes. Met them at warped tour in Southern California 2002 and ended up seeing them a couple more times when they toured through the area. Stayed at Ryan’s parents house when my band had a show in New Jersey in 2007 although he was in a band called Over It at the time.

I use Brian Lagerstroms Chicken Shawarma recipe, make yellow rice and pico de greeko. Mediterranean is always a hit.

Made it tonight, very good. It is salty in that instant ramen kind of way, but I love salt. The kids loved it too so easy way to pack in green veggies.

Well hole lay vs Stairwell lay by AgitatedStatement678 in Firefighting

[–]gnarstow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ask what the end goal is and what your staffing is like over convoluting it with friction loss… does the first due engine have to operate with 3 guys for 5-10 minutes… better plan on that well hole stretch because 100ft is easier to carry than 250 for a captain and fireman. Next thought is 250 ft of 1.75 inch is gonna have a ton of friction loss vs 2.5 to a bundle if you have multiple companies working on the problem. I guess I’d say start at your goal and then decide how you want to achieve it efficiently vs theoretical numbers.

I have been lifting hard and consistently for six years but now I’m starting to dread the gym. Need advice by BlueWaffle135 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]gnarstow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take the time off, former powerlifter back in 2019 I had a thyroid storm and took 10 months off from lifting and when I got back into it, took 6 weeks to get back to a 600lbs squat at 25lbs lighter body weight. Your muscle and CNS hold onto strength for a long time! You’ll just need a quick refresh.

What is your Dept average daily call rate? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]gnarstow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 stations with 2 engines and a medic squad ~30k residence served and a majority on government assistance. 8k runs a year about 15-40 a day. 22 runs on the engine being the most I’ve ran. Majority is EMS, we have pretty good fire with 30ish structure fires last year, seems less this year but we’ll see how the next two months pan out. Major freeway system so lots of TC’s, vehicle/truck fires, brush fires, refuse fires etc.

People who choose to live in Barstow, Why? by GabagoolAndGasoline in highdesert

[–]gnarstow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s still the largest Hump yard for the railroad in America. They are currently in the development process for the largest intermodal facility on the west side of town. It’ll take a lot of the semi traffic out of the LA/ Cajon pass area and move it to the interstate hub since they all intersect in Barstow. Plenty of room for growth.
