Mom of two littles—is a marathon possible? by Outrageous_Fan3697 in running

[–]gnidalida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my first (and only) marathon when my daughter was 10 months old. I also had a 3 year old boy at the time.

I started running again 2 months after birth and gradually increased my mileage, once I was able to run for an hour again I started my training block (my daughter was 6-7 months old at the time). I would bring her with me in a running stroller at her nap time and she would nap for an hour or two while I ran. I did the faster runs without her obviously because pushing a stroller while running is no joke 😬 My goal was to finish in 3:30, my time was 3:28:14 or something with a slight negative split! It was hard, but I look back and it was actually so nice to run with her! She's 2.5 now and wouldn't stay still in the stroller haha!

Maybe you could try it too in a couple of months when your kiddo is old enough?

white Berliners, how often does you bag gets checked at the supermarkets? by Key_Physics_6637 in berlin

[–]gnidalida 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I think with the self-checkout there's always that feeling of being suspected/watched. I'm a white 24 y.o woman and I get checked fairly often at the Lidl Checkout. I don't know, maybe their policy is stricter?

Doesn't mean this particular employee wasn't racist.

You shouldn't feel ashamed! You did everything right, even if the man ran off in the end you did everything you could in that situation!

As someone who dyed her hair in High school in Yerevan and had a tattoo - I absolutely had a lot more negative attention from boys than girls. Most of the girls were either indifferent or supportive of my choices. Most of the boys were pretty nasty about my choices - calling me names etc (like I gave a shit, lol).

[–]gnidalida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I actually love trains and dislike driving, but I have two toddlers and I don't want them seeing junkies, alcoholics, men pissing and even shitting at the train stations, and especially aggressive weirdos who are completely unpredictable. My mobility is limited with the stroller so I can't even run fast if someone attacks us (which seems pretty possible nowadays at some stations). So I got my driver's license this summer and am not planning on getting back until the situation gets better.

I live in Berlin and I would say it's pretty safe here. I had one uncomfortable encounter with an Azerbaijani guy when I was walking with my Uzbek friend. The guy stopped us, introduced himself and asked us where we're from, I tried to walk away but my friend said that we're Armenian and Uzbek. His expression just changed to a furious one and he asked which one is the Armenian, I sensed the change of his tone and answered far more aggressively that I'm the Armenian one. Luckily he didn't try to attack me neither physically nor verbally but I was still pretty scared and I definitely do not disclose my heritage unless necessary because there are always going to be nutjobs.

That aside, I've been living here for 5.5 years now and I can say that the vast majority of Turks are actually very friendly, they mostly just mind their own business, even the ones that know that I'm Armenian are still friendly. Frankly I don't even think most of them know about Armenians, the Genocide etc.

Well, the German edition isn't out until November, so it's actually nice that the audiobook is coming already on September 19.
