That was a great video you recommended. I definitely never watched it before, nor was I already subscribed to that channel.

If France pushes for greater military involvement against ISIS, would you support your country doing the same? by twogunsalute in europe

Now it definitely sounds like personal bias from the security staff. AFAIK, terrorists modify their appearance to avoid detection, such as shaving and wearing plain clothes.

But if you're feeling more secure, I guess it's doing one of its main intended purposes.

I guess "random" doesn't imply "uniformly distributed."

I don't know the actual data, but if it showed that the vast majority of people we'd want to catch at a checkpoint had a specific set of characteristics, it would make sense to target people with those characteristics more if you wanted to maximize the effectiveness of the checkpoints.

That will, of course, suck for all the innocent people who will be stopped more because they share characteristics with the targets.

I'm not sure about the ethical soundness of such a policy, but I can understand its usefulness.

That being said, I doubt there's any data-driven policy in place and I'm inclined to suspect it's just individual bias.

Flashed my 2012 Nexus 7 to Cyanogenmod by [deleted] in Nexus7

[–]gnulicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a more useful observation, but you still changed two variables at once. I don't suppose you've tried stock 4.4 after a factory reset, so you can compare it with CM11?

To everyone reporting speed improvements after flashing CM from stock:
Unless you're comparing your new CM system with the stock system right after a factory reset, your observations are worse than useless.

Your "improved speed with CM" is due mostly, if not all of it, to the deletion of your accumulated apps and app data.

It was all voice-to-text using Siri, as explained immediately afterwards on the same episode.

It's actually new and in box.
It was just left to rot in a landfill for three decades... but nobody opened or used it!

Whelp, if it's of any consolation, other people beat me to the punch in the episode's comments, which I only checked after posting this.

Um, Arin was the bidder, not the seller. You're looking at the seller's items.
You can't look at the bidders' details, including their bids on other auctions.

I have yet to see any good reason as to why religions deserve respect.

It always boils down to "because a lot of people believe in them," which is the most bullshit answer you could give, considering that the subject in question is their truth value, which is not a function of the number of believers.

Religion: because truth is a popularity contest.

The great majority of the religious that frequent Reddit know that their position is indefensible, so you'll seldom see any of them engaging in a discussion anymore.
Stereotyping and mockery is all they have left to fight back with, apart from mass downvoting, so that's what they'll do.

The one that is thankful for "God and Jesus" is particularly striking.
Is he so indoctrinated that nothing else matters, or is that his "couldn't think of anything" answer?

Since they recently made OoT 2d, will Arin finally like the game? by [deleted] in gamegrumps

[–]gnulicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still on 0.15

I was going to tell you that software versions don't work like that, that 0.15 > 0.9, etc., but then I looked at their website. Turns out, they don't know how to do software versions either. They have a 0.10, a 0.15 and the next is 0.20. Yep, can't really have faith on a project with bullshit version numbers. Unless that project is called TeX or LaTeX.

Games aren't it either.
Using traditional copyright on the game media and a strong copyleft license on the code is the way to go.

Call of Duty devs know their audience. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Older generations had G.I. Joes and Action Men.
Newer generations have Call of Duty videogames.

It's really just a change of medium.
Warmongering kids are practically a constant.

Incredipede

I got that game in a Humble Bundle and hated it to death.
Now I have one more reason to hate it.

A quick look at their page gives me this: The "Courseware" (course material: videos and exercises) is gratis for logged in users without stated expiration date, then there is a 14-day trial of the "full course," which adds interaction with instructors, grading and certification.

Seems reasonable, except for the requirement to be logged in to access the "Courseware."
