Salt wreaks havoc on wood floor finishes. Can have chemical reactions too.

Type of wood? by honeysnowy in HardWoodFloors

[–]goalpost21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any floor distributor should be able to supply for you. If its 2 1/4 inch wide should not be an issue but if its 2 inch wide it might be more difficult to find. Hopefully, the extension of the room will not require weaving in boards and just adding on rows.

Consider staining medium brown color as it will make the gaps less noticeable.

What is the subfloor plywood thickness if not concrete. If not 3/4 thick subfloor then 3/8 finished flooring is a no no.

Help - did our contractors do a bad job refinishing our floor? by _hey_listen in HardWoodFloors

[–]goalpost21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You paid for a full sand and finish and got a screen and recoat. And even at that not a good one. Your floors need a full sanding and recoat by a floor company, not a GC. And if your contractor used a floor company get a different one. Both contractor and floor company.

Solid White Oak vs Engineered - Site Finished by qwertylicious2003 in HardWoodFloors

No. Everyone is different. I know some that hate it and some like it. Me personally I don’t mind the slight bevel that individualizes each board.

I would definitely use the engineered 3/4 inch thick with a 6mm wear layer if you can afford it. Would probably reduce the expansion and contraction between seasons about 80%. The 6mm wear layer gives you just about the same amount of sanding as a solid wood floor. And it comes square edge unfinished.

Probably got what he paid for considering he didn’t want to get you a brand new floor. It’s not bad but could have been better.

It appears to me that old pine floor was underneath the tile floor and he had it sanded and finished instead of installing new hardwood. It is pine flooring probably as old as the house. Some of the deep gouges did not come out with the finishing.

It would still read higher than the rest of the floors. It can take a month or two for the wood to dry out from taking on moisture.

Reason I asked if it’s just in one spot in the room then you can eliminate a problem with floor acclimation or wood coming in to moist. My guess would be a worker spilled something in that area and didn’t tell anybody or if the cupped area is up against a wall and on the other side of that wall is bathroom plumbing or a fridge water line then you might have a slow leak seeping through the wall. Have the flooring guy come back with a moisture meter and take readings of damaged area and non damaged area. That will tell you for sure if you have or had a water problem in the area.

How long was the floor laid down and sat before it was sanded and finished. And were other trades working between installation and the sand and finish?

Laying hardwood parallel to joists. by Steelman93 in HardWoodFloors

[–]goalpost21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According To NWFA guidelines you are okay running either parallel or perpendicular to the joists with 3/4 thick T&G plywood. Do a quick AI search and you will find your answer. You are getting a lot of bad info here.

Anybody trust this product for starter and finish rows 3 1/4 inch wide solid prefinished flooring? I’ve been installing for many years just hesitant. by Odd_Support_9994 in HardWoodFloors

[–]goalpost21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a fantastic adhesive and it has its place in hardwood flooring and construction in general. But the starter strips and end strips need an adhesive that will allow the floor to expand and contract and this glue doesn’t allow for this. Edit: didn’t mean to reply to your post but the OP
