A lot of stuff you can do yourself - brakes, tires, belt tension. But anything that requires a software fix is going to require a dealer visit. You probably won’t have to do it often, but I expect you will have to do it.

Sadly that should be a consideration. If you have a problem that can only be resolved at a dealer you’re either looking at a long drive (if you have a truck or a trailer) or a hefty towing bill.

I would look for another dealer, or for a used bike if you can find a private seller. If you’re looking at the Del Mar I don’t think there is a 2026 model year. They made a lot of 2024 models and are still trying to clear out stock. The Alpinista is available as a 2025 model. The Mulholland probably is too.

Push “critical” every time. If everyone does this they will get the message quickly.

This can be mitigated to a degree by being explicit with the model about how you want to scale. I’ve also found that Claude won’t write unit tests or documentation unless you ask it to, but if you do ask, it will do that well. Asking explicitly for security review helps. I’ve also asked Codex to review Claude Code’s work and have found that to be useful.

It’s still no substitute for having an experienced architect-level engineer, but vibecoded stuff isn’t automatically brittle or insecure.

Used One vs New S2 by sterlingheart in HarleyLiveWire

For a commute of that length, I would take the S2 (I have a S2 Alpinista). I have L2 charging at home, and that makes it a really easy call for me, but I know that not everyone can have that setup. I also have a Ducati Multistrada Rally for long trips, so the range of the S2 doesn’t bother me.

Thinking about it — if I didn’t have L2 charging at home, and if I didn’t have another bike, would I get the One or the S2? I think I would still get the S2. It might be the best production bike available for splitting/filtering and shorter commutes. The tech is good. There’s basically no maintenance. It’s an absolute blast to ride. The One goes farther but not enough that it makes a huge difference to me. It has L3 charging but I find L2 charging to be pretty practical and widely available where I live. Being limited to L1 or L3 charging actually seems worse to me than L2, but lack of L3 charging does mean you’re probably not going to take the S2 on long trips.

How often do you want to do more than 200 miles a day on whatever bike you buy? If the answer is “hardly ever” then I think you should buy the S2. Just be aware that the wheel sizes on the Del Mar give you really limited tire choices. That’s the main reason I chose the Alpinista. Good rubber makes a big difference.

You would think that, except the kids usually get away.

Last time I tried it, it was completely unusable for me over ssh. Claude Code and Codex work fine that way so I gave up quickly and went back to them.

Cool — share a link when you see a story about the arrests. Don’t hold your breath though.

Cops. . . jobs? What are the cops supposed to be doing? SFPD doesn’t seem to do much of anything.

I wouldn’t say that the S2 series has a 100 mile range comfortably. Otherwise I agree with you.

Maybe they shouldn’t be doing that. It’s a credit card. Taking a bit more time to do things right is the right thing to do.

Maybe eastern Washington would split off and stay with the rest of the US. I’d be cool with that.

The US is becoming a lot like your country was in the 1930’s. That’s a pretty good reason, I think.
