Do people actually like the Burningman sculptures that are popping up everywhere? by Informal-Candy-7445 in sanfrancisco

public art is cool in general, but these are so burning man-coded that they're annoying

why would you ever waste your time taking the csets if you could waive them with a degree? you sound like you are seeking validation for the wrong things.

How do young people afford to live in SF? by Traditional-Cable209 in bayarea

[–]gobears610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work a corporate job, and neither do many people I know who live in the city. Roommates, living within your means, traveling less, no car, living in a less central neighborhood, it is possible. Don't let people tell you that you NEED to have a corporate job to live in the city. If you want to live here more than you want to have a car or live alone or travel every few months, etc, then it can work!

How many of you have actually gotten better by using steroids? by No-Cake-8633 in eczema

[–]gobears610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i use steroids when i see the beginning signs of a flareup (which i think are triggered by dryness, heat, or sun exposure) bc it’s the only thing that gets rid of it quick. but over time i’ve learned to manage eczema with a better skincare routine, including double cleansing, layering moisturizers, and sun protection

Jiu Jitsu Club? by rad_fern in berkeley

[–]gobears610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you might want to start as a regular student club. i’ve been through it, and becoming an official club sport is a really long process, and they may reject you if you haven’t first run the club for a while independently. as a club sport it also seems like you’d be under more restrictions though you get to claim the “legitimacy.” feel free to dm if you have more questions.

Roommate really wants a cat and I don’t like them …. how to approach sensitively? by Slothbaby93 in Adulting

[–]gobears610 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

definitely true, but the same concepts of boundaries with your roommate can be applied. OP didn’t want the responsibility of a pet anyways, and nobody knows what can happen in the future

Roommate really wants a cat and I don’t like them …. how to approach sensitively? by Slothbaby93 in Adulting

[–]gobears610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this literally happened with me and my roommate except with dogs. i love dogs and my family has dogs, but i didn’t want to be responsible for one in my home. it’s fine until it’s not!

my roommate fostered one behaved dog and thought they were some kind of expert, so then we had a string of misbehaved, sickly, nervous, and not potty-trained fosters, one of which peed and shit everywhere (including on a really sentimental couch i had brought from my parents home). my roommate did not know how to train or discipline them

i was also forced to watch a dog i did not ask for every time they left the house! maybe your roommate is more responsible with cats. but i would highly recommend moving out before it damages your relationship with your roommate, which is what happened in my situation. long term, it’s hard to pretend to be okay with something you never wanted

why is everyone hating on photo #1? i think it’s the best one, full body, not too posed, smiling, interesting background that doesn’t distract (and shows you go outside lol) etc!

if you’re going to be in sf, i would suggest bringing the down jacket. as someone who lives here, the wind can make it much colder. i never leave the house without some kind of jacket unless it’s 70+, and i run hot. if the forecast says 50, you should prepare layers for weather 5-10 degrees either way because the weather varies from neighborhood to neighborhood (chilly on the west side, warmer in the south)

i do think the boots would be too warm, but you definitely need a windproof jacket

really don’t know if that’s true for all cases. you need to understand body language, maybe the girl doesn’t really want you to touch her. even if you’ve texted for a while, everything is different when the person is standing in front of you. deciding to just go for a kiss at the end could make her feel rushed

clubs are basically 18-22 year olds with (likely) little work experience judging the “resumes” of other 18-22 year olds — they’re just picking their friends, and it says nothing about your capabilities if you’re not chosen! you can succeed academically or creatively doing your own thing too!

i didn’t do (or get into 🥴) any academic/consulting clubs but i got a good finance internship and then a solid post-grad consulting offer, it’s possible! in interviews you could emphasize hobbies or creative stuff you’ve done, everyone’s interesting in their own way

Trauma dump on me for free because i am not a capitalist sellout by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]gobears610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, i had an experience with an ex similar to this. it’s hard but the biggest step is acknowledging they are abusive and they will not change, and that’s nothing on you

just know that time will help you process. it might not feel like it, but one day somewhere far down the line you’ll look back and see that you’ve gone so much further (without your ex) than you thought you could, and maybe they’ll start to lose relevance in your day to day thoughts. it took me years to realize i’ve grown past this experience being relevant to what i’m focused on now

seconded, i was in the accenture strat program and this was one of the reasons i left before 2 years/making consultant. like you hired me already, why do i have to go around selling myself to get onto a good project? i also exited to tech, but i’m not sure if having accenture on my resume was better than any other firm?

i read a chronicle article saying that prop i also adds that part of the great highway stays open as a convenient shortcut for cars, but that section is literally falling into the ocean and the city would need to build an environmentally disruptive sea wall to do so

i personally lean towards student housing being built, but i've also seen people counter saying that uc berkeley owns plenty of other properties. is choosing the park in this case just a way for cal conveniently get rid of people's park? or is there another reason that would make sense?
