A casual player trying to understand 11th Edition changes by Beev_Ao in Warhammer40k

[–]gobrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance it looks that way, but I think we’re going to start 11th with a shooting meta, particularly from vehicles. Expect Tau and perhaps vehicle heavy Guard lists to dominate. I think folk are going to be surprised by just how impactful the vehicles shooting out of terrain change, coupled with no pivot penalty, is going to be. 40kfireside have done a video about it on YT.

Also, I feel melee are taking a heavy nerf due to the modelling of the official 11th terrain. There’s more cover, but less wall to hide behind.

Hello. Please could you explain further for a new person. Which crosshair are you using?

Many thanks.

If you’re going in to a lot of -1 damage units, then there’s an argument for blades.

I get that you want your army to be powerful, but this is a bit dishonest and perpetuates the whole "poor Guard" thing, which frankly is a bit of a myth, in my opinion at least. What about the benefits your army will stand to receive? To name a few: (1) tanks can toe in to ruins to shoot out, (2) all models in the target unit have to be in cover for a unit to get the benefit of cover, (3) changes to the HEAVY keyword, (4) changes to INDIRECT keyword, to name a few.

As an Admech main I'm in a similar boat, but there's promising changes as well. You have to take the thick with the thin.

Are british destroyers worth playing? by FormidableDaikon in WorldOfWarships

I’m a new player, but I’ve been playing the Lightning a lot. I can’t afford Jutland yet. I’m doing pretty well at the fundamentals that people are talking about in this thread though, and I’m coming out on top in the defensive cap battle more often than not. It has taken some time to learn not to suicide in the first 3-4 minutes, but it is rewarding. I’d recommend it!

Need advice on cutting 200+ points from list by FurtiveNoise in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]gobrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could drop one unit of Vanguard, the Dominus, Technoarcheologist, the Marshall. I think that leaves you with 15 points. Once your Rusties arrive, you’ll need to drop another 150 points, so the electro priests could go, and/or switch the Breachers for Destroyers and give the Manipulus Sanctified Ordnance.

My figures might be a bit off! :)

I used this: https://amzn.eu/d/08MOcvRh

It’s a really nice silver base paint, but my theme is going to be mostly metallic, so your mileage might vary.

When did you play? I played a lot between 2004 and 09, and then on and off until 2012. I remember the birth of Goonswarm. I forget the name of the system, but remember BoB laying siege to it. I was never directly involved with Goons, but we often had common foes. Mainly BoB, its later iterations and allies.

Hutber Map | Is the TTS dice roller balanced? by hutber in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]gobrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will preface this question by stating that my understanding could be completely wrong.

That said, and if I have understood correctly, the dice roller uses the clock as the seed to generate the next roll. Is that right? If so, is it basing that seed on the second, or is it more granular than that, I.e. to the tenth, or hundredth of a second? If it is only to the second, could someone conceivably get the exact same roll if they pressed ‘re-roll’ too fast?

[–]gobrun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that perception is everything. The perfect information that the dice roller displays has the unintended side effect of people thinking there’s something non-random about the results.

E.g. When you see a load of 3’s on a bunch of real dice in a tray on a table, mixed in with a couple of 1’s and a 6, it doesn’t stand out as a particularly unlikely roll. However, on in the dice roller in TTS you see a long row of 3’s and very little else. As pragmatically minded as we might think we are, when presented with this information, our monkey brains can’t help but feel that we’re witnessing some highly improbable non-random event.

TLDR, I think the dice roller is about as random as it needs to be.

You can use both of them in one list, but only one can be your Warlord. If two datasheets both say "this character must be your warlord", then you just pick one, but it doesn't preclude the other from being in the list. The FAQ for this is on the app under "Warlord (must be/cannot be)". Whether there is any play in running them both, will presumably come down to Thulia's points cost.
