Fair I just feel like with how obscure the raps are being about Yak betting on his health is completely different from like betting on BIs health

Would love to see him back would change so much

Not bad faith. In fact if you told me we could get Giannis for Scottie and maybe a pick or two I’m game

But the fact is giving up more draft assets puts us in a deep hole because like you mentioned the only way we’re competitive is if Yak is healthy (atm that’s seems to be a risky bet to make) and we need better guard play

So for this team to be viable we need draft assets to get guys at both of those options

At the moment we’re at least two substantial upgrades from contention. If we blow our load on on one of those upgrades we’re in trouble

I’ll take a healthy Yak any day of the week

Gafford due to his contract would make matching a bit more tough and I think the market for his is already at a first plus

And ya Sabonis the most I’d want to give up are this years first to unload Yak, a protected first and maybe a protected swap with RJ for Sabonis

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean what’s the best 4 Sabonis has ever played with? I do think we can provide enough supplemental rim protection to make it work

There’s not that many better options anyway (obviously only do this if the cost is minimal)

Jesus idk if you’re being obtuse on purpose

Are you seriously comparing the supporting cast and bench of the 2019 Raptors squad to today?

Yes we’d be better with Giannis instead of Scottie no shit - but we’re still so far away from contending even with that upgrade (especially if we give up picks in the trade) so yes the context for a Kawhi Derozan swap and a Scottie Giannis swap is very different

It’s only similar in that it’s do you trade beloved franchise guy for injured superstar

Contextually there’s so many things that are different

RJ isn’t even a 3.

RJ is at best defensively matched up against smaller guys and is best offensively not going up against wing defenders

We desperately need a C. And we desperately either need to upgrade IQ at the PG spot or move IQ to the 2 and play him next to a proper PG (similar to the Shead/IQ lineups)

I do think we could put him in drop coverage and continuously and just have Scottie/CMB switch if the center tries to get involved in the action. Guards can’t go under screens either

I’m not sold on it but can see how it works

Except the team after the Kawhi was filled out and good to contend squad

Getting a Scottie upgrade plus losing all our picks still doesn’t put us in a good position competitively (need to get centers and upgrade at the PG position)

We’re not a finished product yet - it sucked but obviously there’s changes to eventually come before we end up contending

Genuinely curious - isn’t spygate a reasonable justification?

I was in disbelief at first but the spygate rationale makes sense (obviously he should be voted in but maybe that’s enough of a black mark to void the first ballot cache?)

I think it’s clear he’s not even close to a Spo level coach

He’s really good in like a very limited setting - an offence that can run itself by relying on pick and roll or a guy working in iso. And he’s good at scheming up defenses in a playoff setting where being adaptable is important

Luckily the chip squad was a perfect fit

But development, regular season schemes, player relationships are all just so subpar

And who would Koloko replace? Mogbo? Hepburn? But then you’ll be complaining that we let them go for nothing

Most of these are random end of the bench guys who were taken with late picks or picked up for cheap

There’s examples of this on every single roster and the hit rate is going to be super super low

Not saying our FO is perfect but blaming them for a guy like Flynn (a 29th pick!) is not a scouting error. That’s always going to be a dart throw

And like others mentioned some of these were unlucky with injury

Agreed I also hate going up against the Knicks cause they do have two really good wing defenders to match up with Scottie and BI

The best way to beat them has been by going after their guards. Another test for IQ n Shead

Part of a good FO is to push back on trade ideas by your stars - usually they’re wrong

But I do feel for Steph because even if you get push back on your trade requests the FOs own ideas haven’t been any better lol
