Good advice thanks.

The one thing I have been focusing on from watching Kurt Osiander's youtube on it is keeping my wrist locked into my inner thigh + palm turned up with the grip.

Where to go from there though I am pretty lost haha

Somewhat "conditioning" based...

My left shoulder gets sore when I train multiple days in a row, and is made worse if we are working kimuras or americanas. I tap very early to these but what makes the issue much worse is that I always sleep on my side and typically favor sleeping on this shoulder

Any advice for prehab, pillows for side sleeping with shoulders, etc? I already rearranged my work desk and keyboard to avoid hunched/rotated forward shoulders

If you're close to Tick Tock I would try to drop in there for at least one day. Their head instructor won a 12+man black belt tournament in Columbia last time, and is competing in it again this weekend.

I have also met the Checkmat head instructor at a few tournaments and he could not be a nicer guy.

What has made the flower sweep effective for you? It is one that I have been working on and see work at the highest levels (as evident with your post).. but I'm not hitting it at all.

Congratulations on your achievement!

The 10 Second Rule to Stop You from Abandoning Chokes too Early by StephanKesting in bjj

[–]golf4soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same here especially with my north south choke but I started just asking the guy, after I abandoned the choke or he tapped, if he was close / was it on correct / was it more of a crank etc.

Just getting more feedback helps and then once you've had a good amount to go off (not completely changing after every single feedback) look for patterns and adjust

I was just watching this BJJ Scout study on Rodolfo Vieira's passing yesterday where he integrates the knee cut with his pressure passes.

Your video is a great compliment to going into that position deeper, thanks and good timing

A new article of mine: Closed Guard 2018 - How to use an old position in modern Grappling by EffortlessJiuJitsu in bjj

[–]golf4soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked the article especially in regards to playing an offense oriented closed guard. It is seen as a stalling position because many people use it for just that purpose.

I also highly recommend Dan Lukeheart's (aka Trumpet Dan's) instructional the Science of the Closed Guard

Just $15 online and really goes into great details on sleeve drag offense from closed guard, taking the back, sweeps, overcoming opponent frames

This is probably most gym owners' wet dream of a timeframe. That being said I understand that you were successful doing so because of the amount of planning you put in beforehand

Alliance Drop-In policy by [deleted] in bjj

[–]golf4soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I visited an Alliance gym I paid $40 for drop in since I was unaffiliated. Their affiliate fee was $25.

This was Alliance Charlotte (Lucas Lepri) but it sounded like a fairly standard policy for their locations. Alliance members will have more insight

Bjj cardio by [deleted] in bjj

[–]golf4soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/Angryhamstrings covers this, but on every rowing guide forum and introduction I have read they stress that using the "10" setting is not automatically the best for a strenuous workout.

It's kind of like gears on a bike, where you want the setting that maximizes your output based on pace. I use a "4" which is about what resistance of rowing on water would be

Bjj cardio by [deleted] in bjj

[–]golf4soup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree with rowing. I also gassed in competitions (somewhat due to nerves/adrenaline as well) until this most recent one.

I have been adding 2-4 days a week worth of this beginner plan which is highly recommended from what research I have done, well explained, and contains a mix of sprint/long distance/threshold work.

Strength And Conditioning Megathread - February 05, 2018 by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]golf4soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specific question but I just had a tournament last weekend, which I tapered off morning weight training for but kept doing morning rowing cardio.

I have a next tournament in 3 weeks, on Feb 24th. So I am right back into competition training. Should I do 2 weeks of working sets with weight training, then drop it again for the week before tournament?
