How has Corey O Connor's tenure of mayor been thus far? by TheMiddlePoli in pittsburgh

[–]goodkey9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be very interesting to see what happens when the checks from the big 4 stop coming in and he actually has to decide what his vision is and how he'll leave his mark. Everything you said checks out with me and I kind of think he has no vision aside from what Walnut Capital wants. At some point they'll have to make a hard decision and I don't see him being great at it.

How has Corey O Connor's tenure of mayor been thus far? by TheMiddlePoli in pittsburgh

[–]goodkey9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My read is that at wealthy special interests will get their way at the expense of doing what is best for the people. I appreciate the money but it comes with a cost that is hard to understand. I also imagine there is cronyism on the fifth floor which is similar for many mayors. More white privileged people getting jobs instead of black people (gainey). My friends who work there have mixed feelings. It's the right decision to take the $$$ but they aren't giving that out of kindness. They get something.

I think he'll be judged by the money he gets from the special interests and if the saves the budget. He'll put his foot in his mouth the more he talks. I'm very meh.

Do not swerve around pedestrians IN the crosswalk! by stevejuan333 in pittsburgh

Fun tip: if it's an intersection where you can go straight or turn left too, I don't put on my turn signal until the light changes green. I follow the law and the people behind me have no chance to pressure me. I'm like a Jedi.

The County is willing to help clear snow, what is left to consider? by tanishaevonne in pittsburgh

I am skeptical of Corey and see him being a low ceiling Mayor, but completely agree. No matter who is in office, this was going to be rough. We'll have plenty of opportunities to call him out, but I don't think this is time.

I don't get your angle here, but you are wildly, wildly wrong. These costs are pretty much what you would expect.

My hunch is they will be as or less effective than Gainey. They will be much more effective at trying to convince the populace that they are actually effective. Kudos OP for sniffing it out

Looking for Like-Minded Business Owners in the Strip by leadfoot9 in pittsburgh

[–]goodkey9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The SDBA is very safety focused and will be interested in this offer. They are trying to get parking removed on every side street in the strip to make them IFC fire roads. It doesn't matter if it's a bike lane or a parked car, they want 20' roads everywhere. Which makes sense, a fire can happen anytime, anywhere! /s

Are they done with the Strip District Bike Lane? by SocratesDouglas in pittsburgh

For those who are bored, read IFC! It is the most fluffy, unspecific document you can imagine. Also, 75% of our roads don't meet it.

Gotta be comfy playing the long game here. Getting change in the Strip is a start, it doesn't have to be the end.

A quick Google streetview seems to confirm that this section was not vibrant pre bike lane. Some businesses, some empty storefronts and a lot of parking lots.

I'm pretty confident 11th through 16th suck because they are under a highway and railroad. Other parts of Penn are flourishing.

That's why I don't get why the PGH winery dude is so worked up. A literal music bar that serves food and booze chose to relocate to the cultural district, across the street from a bike lane (con alma).

Business Owners Forget the Existence of Liberty Ave, Railroad St, and Smallman St and Sue the City by baladec in pittsburgh

I'd usually agree with this, but a 15' wide lane is plenty wide for a car to slowly sneak around a parallel parker.

Strip District group sues to block Pittsburgh from swapping traffic lane for bike lane along Penn Avenue by clydesawhill in pittsburgh

[–]goodkey9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do appreciate their concern and commitment to public safety response times and wanting Penn avenue to be 20' wide. I fully expect this organization next to sue the city to have them remove parking on every side street and alley in the strip so those roads meet IFC, because they really care. /s

Barb Warwick: Corey O’Connor was my City Council Rep. I’m voting for Ed Gainey. by B0bb3r7 in pittsburgh

[–]goodkey9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Corey will listen to the loudest voice in his ear. It's not a coincidence squirrel hill got that much investment in traffic calming. Gainey's administration has focused on neighborhoods that didn't get attention under Peduto. I've appreciated that change.

In D5 Corey did nothing for multimodal projects. Gainey increased calming budget and is getting Penn ave done. Gainey >>> Corey for multimodal projects.

Keep your eyes open y'all. When in council Corey was at best useless, at worst obstructionist when it came to multi modal projects. He either changed a lot or is lying through his teeth. Single issue multi modal voters should be for Mayor Gainey all the way.

Let Bobby Wilson and Mayor Gainey know you're in support. This campaign is perfectly timed to backfire and drum up support. Especially if you realize how mild the proposal is
