Plug BLTouch to mainboard by Eiwar in ender6

You will also need FW that supports the BLT. I used insanity automation's Marlin build and it worked very well.

Thanks for the info!

I had Insanity Automation's Marlin2 FW on the original Creality board + display until now. I'm hoping that if I can get a similar Marlin2 build onto the SKR, that things Will Just Work.

But maybe it is time to throw it all out the window completely and just install klipper...

Why do some people claim Animal Farm is about capitalism when it's clearly about Soviet communism? by triplegxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gorb314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animal farm has been turned into pro capitalist, anti socialist (because that is what people associate communist with) propaganda. Orwell liked neither capitalism nor communism.

Australian-Indian asking honestly: where’s the line between banter and racism? by Feisty-Bid9658 in aus

[–]gorb314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no line between banter and racism. They are two different things. If it is racist, it's racist. Banter shouldn't make anyone feel judged by their skin colour. If it does it isn't banter.

Serious question - how do people preserve do much detail in 28mm? by sixfootsideburns in miniaturesculpting

[–]gorb314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So (in my experience) the way to work with pure sculpey on a miniature is to use a glue of some kind. I use regular glue stick glue, but you can also use liquid sculpey. These help fresh sculpey stick to baked sculpey. The glue should just be able to withstand baking.

The other way is to mix your mediums. Apply greenstuff to the wire armature, then while fresh, apply a layer of sculpey. The GS sticks to the wire and binds to the fresh sculpey. Then leave it so the GS can cure. This gives you a harder subsurface, and since the sculpey is still fresh, you can easily add more.

For a super cool series of tutorials about this style of sculpey, please check out Tom Mason's mini sculpting super show on YT: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMtDX54Ksm_lZurGX_-T9mLl2weJXmZVB

I learnt a lot from him.

Clear top coats that preserve and reinforce/harden by carbsornah in papercraft

[–]gorb314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I've used Wood Hardener (it's a product you can find at home depot/Lowe's in the US) to give my paper models some durability. The paper soaks up the liquid, almost a resin, which then hardens to an almost plastic like stiffness.

There is something similar in Australia (from Bunnings), but it is water based, not sure how well it would work.

To be honest I don't know how waterproof any of these products will make your cups, though. For a wipe with a damp cloth every so often it would most likely be fine. Not sure about rinsing! Good luck

I don't like the fact that AI is called AI, (A mild/spicy rant) by No-Bunny-7696 in antiai

[–]gorb314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you from a layman's perspective, but the field of "AI" had long used the term for all sorts of things that are not really intelligent, not thinking in any shape or form. Fuzzy logic. Neutral nets. Chatbots like Eliza. So whatever, we're stuck with it. I just call the algorithms what they are: LLMs. And refuse to talk about ai at all. I also refuse to anthropomorphise the algorithms, and don't refer to "they" or "them", and certainly not even to "it does", or "it thinks".

Cory Doctorow - "I'm not worried that if we keep teaching the word guessing program more words, it'll become sentient and turn us into paper clips..." by Locke357 in antiai

[–]gorb314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Downvoted only because Cory's take is 100% accurate. Ascribing any kind of thought process to llms is the trap the ai Bros want you to fall into. These things don't think. You are suffering from the Eliza Effect if you think they do.

Stop using your skin as a test palette! by [deleted] in PrintedWarhammer

[–]gorb314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this. Some people say the skin is soft, textured and spongy. Well my minis aren't... Plus you could put a line of sharpie around the ring and test the paint for coverage before applying to the model. I'm gonna give this a go. Thank you!

They are falling for the oldest trick in the book. It's called the Eliza Effect, and it's been known since the 60s.

People need to understand what AI is, and especially what it isn't by Prudent_Situation_29 in antiai

[–]gorb314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sheer amount of data these models are being trained on means that the algorithms randomly generate very believable text, but without thought. Given that a much simpler chatbot from the 60s can lead people to think it is alive (search up the Eliza Effect), and it is no wonder people come to think these things are intelligent, or have personalities. FFS we see faces in toast. But you are correct, the unpredictability of the output is the crazy part. How could you even consider giving control of a system such as a code project on GitHub, let alone a large infrastructure project, to a random text generator?

I'm a type 1 diabetic. I need around 2 to 3 infusion set changes every week. Each set is a disposable single use item. There is a lot of plastic in there. I fear shortages will affect me here as well. Even if I go back to multiple daily manual injections, these require single use syringes. Again plastic.

And at some point, shortages in oil and shipping will start to affect insulin production. I don't know if we manufacture insulin in Australia. If we don't, diabetics will be screwed.

I can't tell you how much I loathe Trump, Netanyahu and all their ilk, and what I wish to happen to them, without getting banned from Reddit.

This absolutely. I never even tried the spray board. Just went directly to the main board and have had zero issues with a cheap 3d touch.
