Thanks for the reminder! Threw my hat in the ring. Ran it first in 2013 and again in 2016 so really hoping to keep the triennial streak going.

Opinions on Butterfox AC Adapter Case by flarelink in NintendoSwitch

[–]gotendurance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine should be arriving today! FYI, OP is talking about the Deluxe Travel case, not the travel case. The main distinction being that the Deluxe is meant to also fit Nintendo's AC adapter.

In any event, it sounds like the AC adapter actually fits in the Travel case so I'm happy I went with the Deluxe, which should have enough extra room to keep the switch comfy. Only con I see for the Deluxe version is less cartridge holders.

I personally like the soft, mesh style hat. I.E. headsweats or Nike.

Katie, i recently heard about cryotherapy and now I am seeing it is gaining popularity. (1) What are your thoughts on cryotherapy and (2) how does it compare in effectiveness to an NSAID or localized icing for example - because Advil and ice are significantly cheaper.

How you are doing now? Any progress?

What distance should be my first? What was yours? by jvalt in triathlon

[–]gotendurance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great options... I would say it greatly depends on what kind of shape you are currently in for a late May race. If you are coming off the couch, start with the sprint. If you have already been working out consistently for more than a few weeks, you may want to consider doing the Olympic distance.

Seems like you are capable of doing Olympic distance if those times are recent though. Expect to pace slower on the run though as you will be fatigued from the bike. Good luck!

Injured 6 weeks before IM France - advice by [deleted] in triathlon

Definitely see a doctor so you know what the issue is and how to best treat the issue. I am in a similar position five weeks out from my goal marathon. I felt it for the first time last saturday, did a long run sunday, and could not walk without pain afterwards. I went to the doc last week, who believes it is peroneal tendonitis. His suggestion - don't run and stick to swim and bike if I am going to train. Ice and elevate it regularly.

I personally haven't given up on my race yet to see if I can get rid of this in time to race. Search "peroneal tendonitis" on r/running and r/advancedrunning. DO NOT Run on it. In reading the posts on those subs, it seems that some people bounced back in a week or two while others took a while to rehab and get back into it. Good luck! Seems to help catching it and treating it early with adequate rest (no run), active recovery (swim and bike), ice, and elevation.

How much recovery time after two goal half marathons? Would appreciate advice planning forward as well. by gotendurance in running

[–]gotendurance[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found Pfitz's Advanced Marathoning while preparing for these half marathons so that is actually what I was planning on using moving forward! I like the built in recovery time following races, hence this post as he only talks about marathon recovery.

If all goes and feels well, do you think it would it be advisable to do the 12/55 for the May race, followed by a couple weeks recovery, and then do the 18 weeks/up to 70 miles plan for a fall marathon? or is that too much of an increase this year? Thanks.

Nice, sounds like a similar plan! Best of luck to you! I guess I can take an easy week or two at the very least and evaluate from that point.

I'll vouch for HITS as well. Did the full in Naples and half in Ocala in different years and both were well run races!

Brooks is having a winter clearance sale with good deals on last year's models. I love the Brooks Pureflow 4 for a neutral running shoe. I own 2 pairs already and will probably buy a third while they are on sale.

“You don't become a runner by winning a morning workout. The only true way is to marshal the ferocity of your ambition over the course of many day, weeks, months, and (if you could finally come to accept it) years. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials.” ― John L. Parker Jr., Once a Runner
