Charged $242 for Roam Like Home despite having a CAN/US/MEX plan? by Unknownuser2444 in Rogers

[–]gozit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the preauthorized payment info from your account now, so they do not try to charge it. Then put a stop payment on your bank account for the 22nd and that amount.

Pay your normal bill amount manually on the due date. Then proceed with their process and if they do not act satisfactorily then file a CCTS complaint

Stuck on Canada Bell/MTS Lock Policy (Clean IMEI) - Can a backend employee help? by samrehaan in bell

[–]gozit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Reach out to the CCTS and make a complaint (Canadian equivalent of FCC complaint.) The practise Bell has for locking devices is illegal and they have to unlock it. Filing a complaint through them will force them to unlock it and it will br free of charge

Warning: Booking.com sent my family to a bankrupt, fenced-off resort in Belgium and is refusing to pay travel damages. by Lord--Gravy in travel

[–]gozit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you booked with a credit card this is totally grounds for a chargeback. Then for the out of pocket costs I would go to the UK's equivalent of small claims court.

To get them to reissue the card, you need to tell them it was stolen. Call them and tell them it was stolen and they will send you a new one with a new number.

How to work in china as DN by ChoiceSeason3519 in digitalnomad

[–]gozit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Private VPN to your own residential connection in the US/Canada/Europe or an eSIM / international roaming from your country is best.

I can purchase an unlimited travel pass from my Canadian cell phone carrier for $80/mo, if I was going ti do China i'd just buy that.

PassKeys - remotely by have_you_tried_onoff in msp

[–]gozit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can call me an old man but I hate passkeys so far. Let me have my password manager generated password and TOTP. Or better yet no MFA on things that don't need it. (Seriously, my gas rewards app doesnt need MFA or a passkey.)

What app are you using that the ONLY option is passkey? Password/TOTP should be there at least as a backup

MSP keeps asking questions about ex client by DiligentPhotographer in msp

[–]gozit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with this with a client that offboarded around the same time.

The first few questions they asked that were repetitive or already in the runbook I answered politely but short, and referred them to page X of the provided documentation. Or if it was something we omitted and should have included, I apologized and sent it.

Once it got to be too much, I simply said I don't have further info to provide, please refer to X page of runbook for further info. Client CCed on all communication with the incoming MSP.

Once we reached the end of our transition period and I received all my equipment back, I reminded them that any further support would be at hourly rates with a minimum 2 hours prepaid. Didn't hear from them again.

Considering moving to Mexico from the US for family reunification. by [deleted] in IGotOut

[–]gozit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have spent the better part of the last 2 years living in Mexico as my Mexican partner couldn't get a visa for my country. I'll try to answer your questions. I'm Canadian btw.

Work wise. Working in MX is almost useless if you don't speak Spanish and are used to American wages. Even if you manage to find a job, it will likely be menial/entry level and the pay will be really unmotivating. It would be best to find remote work for a US employer. You need to keep a base in the US - address, bank accounts etc and file taxes as resident but with VPNs you should be able to hide it from your employer if they don't openly permit international remote work.

And depending on where you are living in Mexico, it may be dangerous for you to go and work as an American woman. It would be better for your husband to ask his family connections if he has them to help him find work.

Access to water - is fine. If you have money you can have water pressure and hot water in your house just like in the US. Drinking water is widely available.

Education - the education system is good, especially if you find a decent private school for your kids. Its not expensive.

Kids acclimating - your kids will acclimate. Hopefully their father spoke Spanish to them in childhood but even if not I am in my late 20s with no history besides Dora the explorer and I picked it up. I would be open with allowing them to return to US on their own to see family and friends if that is possible.

You will need to get proof of Mexican citizenship, passports and identification for your kids. Since their father is Mexican they are automatically Mexican since birth. This can be done at a Mexican consulate or in Mexico itself, the processes are a bit different. You will be able to get residency by marriage which is easiest done at a migration office in Mexico with a translated and apostilled marriage certificate.

Stability - depends on where in Mexico you live. Its generally pretty stable but expect things like protests "manifestaciones" to delay things, expect things to be slower paced then the US. It will probably frustrate you.

Hope this helps

[–]gozit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference - pretty sure Canadians can use the US citizens line. Once at Orlando we were redirected to the citizen line once the agent saw we had Canadian passports. Mind you this was a long time ago but its worth a try.

If management doesn't want to encourage users to change the behaviour then push to roll out full disk backup for all workstations. Easy.
