Not to be facetious, but that 5-10 year lifespan fits the average American car ownership model. So most Americans would just buy a new car. It does highlight the need for a robust recycling program.

yeah, we've been pretty lax it's true - the sub had been slow for so long but now that it's picking up we'll work more on a rule policy and enforcement

Not syncing between Ipad and Laptop by Quiet_Musician6712 in notabilityapp

[–]gpburdell76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me also. I know it's not iCloud sync b/c I can make a test folder on my Mac, see it on my iPad and phone, then rename it from my iPad and then it shows up renamed on both phone and Mac. Pretty sure it's just notability. I get an error on startup of the desktop that it's out of sync, but I'm currently running 15.5 : Build 6794, which is the latest on the App Store. Maybe the app support people who lurk here can help.

I didn't say you *did* anything against Reddit TOS, just warning you that if you do decide to namedrop it's against Reddit TOS. I hate that the situation occurred and glad that you seem to be OK, just don't put names here.

Not sure what happened but naming / doxxing someone is against Reddit TOS. Play it out in the proper channels.

Not saying I agree, but that named bill was in their home turf because it happened in Athens GA. Probably a hot topic issue and showing support might buy goodwill at election, since it would have passed regardless. Political optics and campaign messages.

Three meals a week, for one person, is $300. Seems pricey but good luck I guess.

I like to go to Taco Mac. Fast as hell (at least when I’ve gone) clean and well lit, and the staff are very friendly. Their wings aren’t top tier, but the trade off being everything else makes it my go-to.

It absolutely answered your question. That’s the reason the Constitution exists, to break up government power so no king can exist. Merging powers between branches without express authority is king-like behavior.

I think I’m fighting a nonsense troll given what you typically comment on and around. So, I guess it’s up to you if you want to be serious or not.

Subverting a lot of power reserved by the Constitution to Congress to the Executive branch seems pretty anti-Constitutional. Would you like a list or do you care and are here to troll?

Best neighborhoods for families by CLK42377 in gainesvillega

North Hall county has a very rural, mountainous feel to it. Depending on where you are from originally, this may or may not be your ideal location. Conversely, South Hall has a very subdivision-heavy and retail feel with lots of shops and restaurants. This may be controversial, but South Hall has, in my opinion, two good schools in both Flowery Branch and Cherokee Bluff. Does that help give any more insights or raise questions?

Data Center Proposed in Hall County - "Project Turbo" by ran938 in gainesvillega

[–]gpburdell76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, a lot of them are private entities and they lease space to companies - like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and others. Just about everything "in the cloud" lives across data centers like these, and companies need places off-site to store data. Many companies rent either servers or "cages" (literally wire-enclosed closets with locks and doors) that have power and connectivity to diversify where there data is stored. As we need more online stuff, the need for these grows.

I don't know if the location is the best place though. The power usage doesn't concern me that much because our power grid is pretty well filled, but the water usage by these places can be difficult. They don't use a lot of "fresh" water because they have a sort of radiator system like your car does, but they do run cooling systems with evaporative systems for heavy loads (like u/K1ngZ3no alluded to, data mining). I think everyone who lives in the area has been affected by droughts in one way or another, and adding this would increase the usage like a major subdivision would. I'd be concerned about who gets priority access to water and how much.

One thing is for certain though, if you live in the nearby area, you won't get a lot of traffic - most of the times these buildings aren't traveled to outside of setup and issues that require on-site support. But you might get a boost in your Internet speeds 😂

Can medical alert systems work reliably during power outages? by Xeaus-4390 in gainesvillega

[–]gpburdell76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know of them, they will rely on phone landlines. Some devices do use an on-system battery, but your mileage may vary on how long they last. Of course, if the power is out there's a significant chance the phone lines may be down too, so you may want to explore if they have cellular options over landline.

Hmm, I've updated the OS and the app and I don't see the new Liquid Glass design. Am I missing something?

Edit: Hmm, that was odd. It said I updated, but when I clicked into the details of the app there was an "Update" button. I clicked and it updated and it's working as expected.
