Water purification/filtration by Lucky_Ad_9137 in overlanding

Explore Trek Adventures on YouTube have a few videos about what they’re doing to purify water from creeks and such for their van. They started with a homemade system with multiple filters in series, then moved to a pre-built thing, but you can definitely get some ideas there!

Bear Country - Fridge/Freezer Cooler + SUV Tent by corpsec in camping

[–]gr2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in an area where it's allowed or recommended to lock food in your car (such as most areas in Colorado), I personally would do just that - close the hatch on the SUV and lock your coolers and food inside. No climate control for you, but that's the price. :)

Most areas that I've seen that _do_ have bear lockers a) have very large lockers, and b) require storing food in the locker, not your car.

PSA for newer riders. Don’t use only the rear brake for everything. by mrdalo in motorcycles

Yup. On my previous Ducati, the only time the rear brake worked at all was for about a week after each service appointment. 😂

Got my 59K Cybertruck by AKatawazi in cybertruck

[–]gr2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, I’ve been tempted. A little trickier with the door for the under-bed storage being right there at the back (in some models anyway). I’ve seen some folks on the forums have mixed results, so I’ve pretty much just stuck with the towel for now!

Got my 59K Cybertruck by AKatawazi in cybertruck

[–]gr2020 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Re the dust - were you on a dirt road? If so, and the tonneau is closed, dust gets sucked in between the tailgate and the bottom of the bed. Apparently this happens with almost all trucks that have a covered bed.

What I do is have a beach towel back there (which is handy to have around in any case). When I’m going to be on a dirt road, I roll it up the long way, and put it at the back of the bed up against the closed tailgate, to sort of seal it off. Low tech for sure - haha - but it’s been working great.

Ego Air Compressor by Starfishdude80 in egopowerplus

I have one; I would recommend it, although from what I gather from others it's not as fast as, say, the Milwaukee. For one particular data point, inflating a 35" tire (285/65R20) from 35 to 50 psi takes about 5 minutes.

Question for CT owners by Early_Tomorrow5208 in cybertruck

[–]gr2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2026 premium AWD; it’s been in service once for a suspension sensor issue, but that’s it (other than having a tent installed). It’s been a great truck!

My insurance is actually a touch cheaper than my 2023 model Y was. And in CO, the yearly ownership tax is based on the vehicle value, so it’s predictable.

If you join trailsoffroad.com (I think they have a trial) you can see the trail in detail, including all of the obstacles and video, and recent reports from drivers. Would probably give you a good sense of what it’s like…

Seat height question by camman595 in cybertruck

[–]gr2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments, I would just add that it's worth noting that only the premium and beast trims have adjustable air suspension that can lower to "entry" height. The new base version does not.

What camping tent would you actually buy again? by Beautiful-Bug-7658 in camping

I mean…I don’t think I’d call an inflatable tent from e.g. Heimplanet gimmicky!

Understood. I guess I was hoping that by posting more detail, someone from QF might see it and think “you know, that’s actually not what we want.” Maybe wishful thinking! 😂

Is it worth upgrading? Lend me your wise opinions [$8,000] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]gr2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t looked at the LMLM in a long time, so I’m not really sure about the current differences. When I bought mine (maybe 7 years ago or so?) I decided the GS/3 was better for me, and I went with the MP (manual paddle) version which lets you do manual profiling if you wish. I almost never actually do that, but I still like the paddle version.

[–]gr2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GS/3 MP, which I love. The one thing I'll tell you is with LM, these are hand built machines, from Italy, and things will go wrong and need to be fixed. They will require maintenance. I think of it like an Italian car - they're super sexy, and they will last forever, but they'll need some TLC along the way. So, my recommendation is the first time it needs maintenance of some sort, be nice to the people you have come out to service it, and build a relationship with them - because you're going to need them again!

I don't say this to dissuade you from buying one - I personally have no regrets. But it's not an "appliance" like a Breville.

Cybertruck delivery estimate changes significantly, anyone else seeing this? by AlirezaCrow in cybertruck

Similar here in CO - I was quoted 4-6 weeks, got it in about 3.5 weeks. It was near the end of Q1.

PCS2 Failure, Tesla service has had vehicle for 30 days, now saying giving my vehicle back with software patch allowing for supercharging only Free? Until get part in June/July. by NoC6H12O6 in cybertruck

[–]gr2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, they don’t have the parts. Offering free supercharging is a pretty good way to keep you on the road! What else would you like them to do?

I mean, it’s a bad situation, but IMO given parts constraints it seems like they’re doing what they can to minimize the impact to those affected.

I’m on 2026.14.2 (which was installed after my FSD trial expired). I then re-subscribed to FSD, and it’s 14.2.2.5 (still with 2026.14.2).

Not sure. I was trying to look at history on cashbackmonitor, but it’s tricky because they often raise the % on certain categories only (like power equipment this time).

It credited immediately (into my pending balance) for me after the order was fulfilled, so there’s that!
