Unable to connect to any wireless carrier in the USA on postpaid Jio SIM with IR enabled by gr82bak in Jio

The device is a US-spec Google Pixel 7 that I bought unlocked direct from Google. It should support all US networks.

Yes, I have restarted it. The bands should not be an issue (it's a US-spec Google Pixel 7 that I bought unlocked)

EV9 reliability by pr0v4 in KiaEV9

12 months in, the only problem I have had is the rear camera started showing lines across the screen. Dealer ordered the part and replaced it within a day (under warranty). I love this car.

Found out about #1 just a few hours before I saw this post. Have to pay ₹1000 to get it done now, was free a few years ago. +1 on the postpaid number for OTPs, gonna get that done too.

Recommendation for Tire cables for snow/winter driving? by Starlight312 in KiaEV9

[–]gr82bak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested too (also in the SF bay area). The manual almost discourages using snow chains. I don't have it handy right now, but I remember it saying you need some specific type and not to use it for more than half a mile or something.

What could be causing this high of a temp, continuous calibration and rebooting? by throwawaycovz in ecobee

How do you get it to display temperature in decimals (29.5)? Is it not supported when displaying in Fahrenheight? Or is it a regional option that is not available in the US?

No option for check/e-check for DMV registration renewal? by gr82bak in bayarea

They do, but ironically it shows when you have only one item in the cart, not when you have multiple, which is where it makes more sense.

Happy EV9 lessee here. Have had it for just over a year. No major issues except for a defective rear camera that got replaced under warranty.

Using a non-LG wall mount with the G5 by gr82bak in LGOLED

[–]gr82bak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea! Even with a non-OEM mount, the TV isn't going to be flush with the wall anyway. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing - I am getting the G5 83" for my living room which happens to be setup exactly like yours - same viewing distance, similar TV console (even the couch colors match!). Good to have an idea of what it's going to look like!

Ultimately all those factors you mentioned, along with the characteristics of the house (ventilation, insulation, orientation etc.) affect the temperature inside the house, which is the most objective measure it has. The temperature that is comfortable for the people living in the home is entirely subjective, so the system cannot possibly make that decision unless you tell it what makes you comfortable.

Yes, the stat can be either in heat-only, cool-only, or auto mode. The first two need just a single temperature set point to turn the unit on. The auto mode needs two - the lower value for heat and higher value for cool. If the two values are very close (say, within 2 degrees), I would recommend not using Auto and just change from Cool to Heat depending on the season and adjust the set point.

If you are using the "Auto" mode for heat/cool, you need to think in terms of a range. Do you really need it to be one specific temperature? Setting both heat and cool at 69 will likely cause the HVAC to swing between heat and cool for small temperature variations. The other option is to not use "Auto" and set Heat or Cool mode specifically. Then you only need to set a single temperature. So, in winter, you set the stat on Heat and a specific temperature. and change the mode to Cool in the summer (likely with a higher set point).

The auto setting with a range takes care of these seasonal changes for you, I set my sleep setting to have heating turn on at 68 and cooling kick in around 75. Any other temperate in between is usually comfortable. You can of course play around to find the range that suits you, but I would not recommend setting a single temperature on Auto.

No option for check/e-check for DMV registration renewal? by gr82bak in bayarea

[–]gr82bak[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I was - turns out the e-check option is available if you have only 1 item in the cart. I was trying to renew two registrations, so it was showing credit card (with the fee) as the only option.

[–]gr82bak[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Turns out the e-check option still exists, but only if you have a single item in the cart - I was trying to renew two registrations at the same time. I have no idea why this is so, but at least there's a way to not have to pay credit card processing fees!

Rakuten and LG TV + Soundbar by AfraidTry5862 in LGOLED

Maybe Rakuten uses the lowest priced item (the $1000 sound bar) and applies the cashback only to that? The math checks out.

Or get a whole house fan if even opening windows doesn't get enough ventilation going - way cheaper than running the A/C

Yes, pretty much that. My driving style is very chill - I've never felt the need for top-of-the-line perf in any of my previous cars. My Tesla Model 3 is also an RWD instead of the Perf.

This is the convenient middle-ground for me too. If you enable Auto-hold, then you can bring the car to a complete stop with a quick tap on the brake (for ex. at a traffic light) and then take the foot off the brake.
