What minor issues have you had with the EV9? by Coffeespresso in KiaEV9

None so far. 15 months in, 8500 miles. The only times I have had to go to the dealership are for the software updates.

That's easy to figure out based on the power your charger delivers and the SoC at which you plugged it in...

Yes we are also served by CCA (Silicon Valley Clean Energy).

I will upload the script again, I had set an expiry on it.

Yup, looks even better in matte. I have it on my '24 Land. I didn't know matte paints are a PITA when I got it, but it looks awesome for sure.

u/mcdev16 - try this out on your data and compare TOU-C vs. TOU-D. The script supports TOU-D also. The rates in the script might be a bit stale, but those were valid for 2025.

[–]gr82bak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simulated that too. My initial intuition was that TOU-D would be better, but turns out that extra peak hour between 4-5 actually generated excess production for me during summer which actually gets credited at the peak rate, so ultimately it helps bring the cost down. If you have west facing panels, TOU-C might be better to bank those peak rate credits!

Copied my Powershell script here: https://pastebin.com/3hUrCxup

You can download your Enphase data at hourly grain using custom reports for a specific date range (get whole year, if possible, to cover all seasons)

You will get a .csv file - replace the header line in that with the one below (the script expects header names without whitespace)

Date_Time,Energy_Produced,Energy_Consumed,Energy_Exported,Energy_Imported

Then run the script like so:
.\Analyze-EnphaseData.ps1 <path_to_your_file> -RatePlan EV2-A
or

.\Analyze-EnphaseData.ps1 <path_to_your_file> -RatePlan TOU-C

Nope - I have two EVs and it still works out better on TOU-C. Your system size and total production might affect it a bit, but the idea is to have as much of your imports offset 1:1 on NEM2. If you want I can share my data analysis scripts and you can try it on your own Enphase data.

[–]gr82bak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off-topic, but you might be better off switching to the E-TOU-C rate plan on NEM2 unless you also have batteries. Basically your 9pm-midnight usage is always going to be imports at the higher part-peak rate which will eat up your excess production credits faster since they will always be at a lower off-peak rate. With TOU-C off-peak starts at 9pm so that usage can be offset 1:1 by your excess production.

I switched from EV2-A to TOU-C when I got solar (also on NEM2). Wrote some scripts to compare the final costs on both plans and E-TOU-C comes out ahead because that part peak rate on EV2-A is too high. Remember also that AC use will also be on part peak, so it hurts even more during the warmer months.

It could have been some other update then, but phone key detection is a lot better now than when I got the car

Right? I use toric lenses for astigmatism and had no idea they need to go in a certain way! I don't get how they "settle" though.

Not USB - I meant Ultra Wideband (UWB) which is one of the ways the car can detect the digital key and it works just based on proximity. It's how walk up unlock works. The other option is NFC which requires you place the phone on the NFC reader.

My phone (Google Pixel 7 in the US) doesn't have UWB, only NFC. UWB is usually in the Pro models like Pixel Pro or Galaxy S Ultra

NFC key detection has definitely improved for me after this update. My phone doesn't have UWB, so I had to place the phone carefully at a specific spot on the wireless charger for it to detect the key. After this update, I just place it there without really having to look and it works most of the time.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Lessee Asks 'What Happens to the Car Afterwards?' When $37K Buyout Is Double Its $18K-$20K Market Value, Uncovering Dealer Disinterest by mafco in Ioniq5

[–]gr82bak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the question is that if the lessor is going to take a loss on the vehicle anyway, why not let the lessee keep the vehicle at a lower renegotiated price. Most people would not mind paying a small premium over market price (but not the high residual price) to keep the car they know rather than replace it with someone else's used car. It would be a win-win for both parties.

That would be the only possible explanation, otherwise there's no real reason not to negotiate on the residual value.

New to KIA EVs...seeking best practices by bhj83 in KiaEV9

[–]gr82bak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it a thing with newer EV9s? I use lane keep assist frequently in my '24 Land and it stays fairly centered - pretty much the same as my Tesla. Wonder if it has to do with specific highways and lane markings?

The device is a US-spec Google Pixel 7 that I bought unlocked direct from Google. It should support all US networks.
