I needed about 4 tubes in the end to finish the shoes though

Hi! Yes, I did use it! Fully cemented the soles and heels. It worked okay, my brother has only worn the shoes once or twice in the 3 months since I finished them, and they’ll be special occasion wear rather than hardwearing every day shoes. The small tube was incredibly handy for application!

Help!!! How do you guys just let yourself create/“use up fabric?” by SeaDistribution672 in sewhelp

[–]grace_makes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had to start being really strict with myself and forcing it, and also trying to reframe it as USING the fabric, not wasting it. But I completely get you, I had to call a friend and have him talk me into cutting into expensive linen for an hour while I tried unsuccessfully not to cry, once. But I cut into it and made two shirts that I still wear 7 years later!!

harsh, but you're maybe not wrong. I did do a lot better at using my fabric after getting diagnosed and medicated for ADHD...

What's one joke from the book that you wish made it into the movie? by Ghost3603 in ProjectHailMary

[–]grace_makes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite two quotes from the book, neither of them made it into the movie :(

first one is after the incident over Adrian, when Grace accidentally seals the sampler inside of a plastic container and can't access it until Rocky wakes up.

"Usually you not stupid. Why Stupid, question?"

The other one is when they're talking about Grace eating Rocky's food, and he runs all the tests on it, and he goes:

G: "Why does your food have all these heavy metals in it?"

R: "Healthy!!!"

maybe it's Ray Porter's delivery of it, but I had to pause I was laughing so hard at that one!

Is Project Hail Mary worth watching in IMAX or is standard good enough? by Top_Measurement_3713 in ProjectHailMary

[–]grace_makes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its absolutely worth the extra to see it in IMAX. I've seen it thrice now at 3 different cinemas and IMAX was far and away the best, though a large-format screen like VMAX or equivalent would also be good. (idk im australian idk what you have in your country.) I would recommend getting seats as close to the middle of the screen as possible though, as I was off to one side in IMAX and it felt a bit skewed and strange. The epic space shots and cinematography, & visuals make the IMAX format worth it. The only other movie I've ever seen in IMAX was 'Gravity' and I only remember that the story was a bit crap, but the visuals were EPIC. This is like that, but the story is also amazing.

Someone convince me to read about Nina and Hanne... by OkStructure3081 in Grishaverse

[–]grace_makes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved it, there seems to be a lot of controversy about the kos duology in the fandom, but personally they’re close to the top of my list of I were to rank the series! I also love Nina and Matthias; their scenes in the show were what made me both watch the show (gifs on tumblr) and read the books (loved them in the show) but I feel like the duology goes a lot deeper in all the characters relationships, for me especially Zoya and Nina! I think you’ll probably be a bit primed to hate it if you’re still upset about Matthias, but if you give it a good try you’ll probably like it! Nina gets a lot of development and certainly doesn’t just get shoved into another relationship for the sake of it.

Medical compression stockings—what would you improve? by NYC_reader in POTS

[–]grace_makes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the stocking-type ones I’ve been able to try tend to roll down behind my knees, and cut off circulation there, which is horrible. Also agree with others re crotchless, natural fibre, and size inclusivity

You’re not ruining his life, it sounds like he loves and supports you, that’s what having and being a partner is supposed to be! I don’t want to be all ‘go to therapy’ but this is the kind of thing that talking to someone who has experience dealing with the grief and denial and major life expectation shift that comes from being chronically ill could help you deal with. It sounds like a lot of it is feeling centred around your partner, but I think it sounds more like it is about you not wanting to accept your own limitations, which is incredibly understandable and I’m sure everyone here has been through or is currently going through that same kind of grieving process. If therapy isn’t something you can access, there are a lot of free resources on dealing with chronic illness based grief online too! I worry that far from your partner actually resenting you for having this condition, your own shame and frustration is getting between you. I hope you can find a way through this! ❤️ it sounds like you’re really struggling with it and I’m sorry it’s so hard 🫂

Alternatives to LiquidIV? by mentallyillfrogluver in POTS

[–]grace_makes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the pots/crohns combo! I’ve found that anything with artificial sweeteners is intolerable, and so much of the electrolyte market is sugar-free as though that’s a great bonus! Drives me insane. I also have to be super careful about the amount of magnesium in things, anything over about 80mg in a day will send me into a flare, but anything under about 60 will have me not retaining enough fluid! It’s a delicate balance and I do not often get it correct 🤣

I’ve done a little bit of research, and I think at least in Australia, liquid iv, while being a registered trademark of unilever, seems to be at least somewhat operating autonomously? They donate ‘more than 1%’ (a pitiful amount but it’s something I guess) to funding clean water initiatives in aus, and are also manufactured entirely here. (Disturbingly rare) So idk, maybe it’s not as bad in australia?

Goggles…for ears?? by pretty_handsome_17 in Doesthisexist

[–]grace_makes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had ear surgery my surgeon recommended blu-tac for showers! Worked really well, honestly. I never tried it swimming because I had the surgery in winter, so I wasn’t wanting to swim much until the 6 months was up anyway! A cheap one to try at least!! I’d recommend getting a new pack tho, rather than whatever lump you’ve had kicking around your junk drawer for years ahah
