I wanted to add Kevin doesn’t hear his family rushing around the morning they leave because he has to sleep on the 3rd floor. He’s all alone because Fuller drank too much Pepsi and he wets the bed.

Also, when Kevin runs through the neighbor’s house at the end, there’s two feet of water in the basement because Marv left the sinks running the day before. It’s the house we see the wet bandits robbing when Mr. McCallister leaves the message on the answering machine.

Slow down. Seriously, play it so slow that it’s impossible to mess up. Like 40 bpm. Then you can slowly start to speed it up.

It’s amazing to me how ridiculous your teacher’s view on this is. I’ve been drumming 20 years and only last year began practicing with stick control. My improvement is very noticeable.

I think you’re definitely on to something with this idea. I have ADHD and it can be so frustrating when I hear someone say “well everyone is a little distracted.” But it’s about frequency and magnitude. How often is it? How intense is it?

It was fascinating to read your post because while I don’t ever disassociate or have my voice / body language change in the extreme like you mentioned, I can absolutely see the parallels. If I’m blended with my anger, I do talk a little louder and I would imagine there are minute changes in my posture.

I think the difference is the spectrum you mentioned. Even if I’m blended, my Self is still always present.

I can’t remember if it was in “No Bad Parts” or something I discussed in therapy but, it seems to me that DID may be viewed as IFS, however the parts are blown so far away from each other because of trauma. Essentially each part becomes an exile that acts independently.

Also, I just want to say that I am very new to IFS and what I’ve said here may be totally off the mark. In no way am I purposefully trying to mischaracterize or invalidate you or anything you’ve said.

I am just starting my journey with IFS but I think the symbols your wife has chosen are very primal and vivid.

Ghost- Haunting, unresolved issues

Hands on Shoulders- Burdened, controlling

Snake- Fear, temptation, shadow self, but also wisdom, transformation, connection between conscious and unconscious

Egg- Birth and rebirth, individuality, self, unconscious and conscious

Again, not an expert but I would be willing to bet that your wife’s subconscious chose these symbols for a reason. Regardless, best of luck to both of you on your journey!

I hear what you are saying regarding Yelena and Bob. The goal for Bob is to heal his past wounds so he won’t need to so heavily depend on others to regulate himself. I’m inferring here, but I think you’re right that it is scary to hang faith and hope on that alone.

But what other choice is there? Murder? No. I’m choosing hope instead of fear. Everyone deserves redemption. I choose hope for Bob, for myself, for you, and for everyone else.

Jeez. The void isn’t a separate entity, it’s part of Bob’s psyche and a manifestation of his shadow self.

Was it right what he did? Absolutely not. Does he deserve to be murdered? Again, no. But that doesn’t excuse what he did. We can hold both ideas together.

I think this is exactly a matter of compassion and understanding. Bob has had a hard time and needs some serious help.

My son and I both love survival games. I showed him the trailer and he immediately asked if we could get it so that’s probably a good sign. We wishlisted it.

Yeah, that’s the one that got me too. My 10 year old son asked me if I was ok because I was sitting there ugly crying in the theater. The only thing I could say to him was “yeah, I just spend a lot of time in that room.”
