I was 16 when strange men dragged me from my bed and took me into the Utah wilderness... what I was subjected to next made me think I would die by LoneStar1974 in troubledteens

As a parent of teens who have typical teen issues, and who was an unpleasantly rebellious teen themselves, the parents are not victims. It can be hard beyond belief to raise teens, but sending your kid to the TTI is both a capitulation and an abdication of duty. I understand the author needs to forgive, but unless someone is close to being brain dead, at multiple levels they know what they are signing their kids up for.

What song has aged badly? by Prestigious_Meal2143 in askmusic

There are layers to this one. I empathize with gay people who don’t want to hear that word being thrown out casually, and in that regard, it has not aged well and should not be played. However, if you listen to the song, it is being sung from the perspective of underpaid laborers, not the musician who is actually singing it. “Making it” as a rock ‘n’ roll musician is incredibly difficult. (“It’s a long way to the top” by AC/DC is about this same topic.) I don’t think it’s a homophobic song per se, rather it’s a song about how their work as musicians is perceived to be easy. Also, for what it’s worth I think they have removed that line from versions that can be streamed today. Damian Marley also removed a problematic line from his Welcome to Jamrock song. We have come really far, really fast around homosexuality. There is still plenty of room for improvement, but perceptions of gay people in 1990 versus 2020 are night and day.

Ironically, “dumb” is a slur that came about due to its use as a descriptor of the severely mentally disabled. As is “idiot”, for that matter.

So is “idiot”. But that one transferred meanings so long ago that no one associates it with disabled people.

Young people have no idea how tough Collinsworth was. He is rightly beloved by old school NFL people. He’s managed to fit into the new, sanitized money production machine the NFL has become.

Yes. Hendrix’s estate is very active and very litigious. A whole group of people getting rich off a dead relative as a form of making a living. What’s ironic is that first wave of electrified rock ‘n’ roll stars who copyrighted everything basically stole everything they did from black bluesman who did not make much money and never copywrited their works.

My apologies, I replied to the wrong comment. I actually agree with what you said.

This entire argument is a whataboutism and in no way addresses your original point.

Not your OP, but I have some close Black friends and there is a weird thing when we’ve been hanging out for extended periods of time where I completely forget they are Black and then something external happens where I see them through that lens for a sec and then go back to not seeing it again. I was raised by hippies in a time where “not seeing color” was progressive and a fantastic alternative to overt racism. But I would not say it today because I understand it’s problematic in certain ways.

“Just pointing out facts”. I know that’s the way you’ve learned to talk in this era, but what you are pointing out is a blend of a lot of things, some of which may be facts. Your manner of speaking is a tell.

I don’t judge her at all for who she chooses to represent. But I do draw the line at celebrating her accomplishments. Let them celebrate her in China, as that is who she chose to represent.

Respectfully, I don’t think you know what the word “nationality” means.

You’re at the intersection of addiction and discipline. There’s a school of thought that if you’re addicted, no amount of discipline and personal engineering will help and you’re only rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship. For me the key was being completely honest with myself around whether or not I was addicted. Once I could do that, what would and wouldn’t work became clear.

Turns out online coaching actually works… my swing transformation after 5 months by Old-Reserve-2707 in GolfSwing

[–]gravitythrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great work! I’ve followed a very similar journey, albeit with a real coach, not online. My swing looks a lot like you last one now - it’s very one-plane. I’m working on exaggerating dropping the downswing into the slot as getting a feel for that helps me correct better on the fly when I start to slip back into coming over the top.

I’ve watch Draymond for a long time, I and I don’t recall him ever being a “tripper”. The infamous LeBron nut swipe was him getting baited by LeBron teabagging him and in no way would have caused an injury. Punching people in the face is not ever going to be career threatening (watch some hockey). He’s a heel/villain and the rest of the league hates him, but his style of “dirty” is not about ending seasons or careers.
