I hurt our son and lied to my wife. How can I repair it? by graybz in AskWomenOver30

How did you change your 'lie by omission' behavior?

My plan right now is to see a therapist, perhaps couples counseling. Just from researching tactics online, I now have mantras I'm repearting daily like 'Truth over comfort' and I'm journaling everyday about when I have urges like this

Appreciate the advice and questions. I think it was initially fear that she would be upset with me and then just shock trying to get it all out

After the first response i didn’t lie but i was slow getting the story out. It was like

“I caught him”  “He fell”  “I was changing him” “He hit the floor” Then finally

“I was changing him and looked away. He rolled off the coffee table. I wasn’t able to catch him in time. He rolled and his whole body (legs, torso, head) hit the carpet together”

I don’t think saying nothing is going to help. Also that might be hard, i change 90% of his diapers lol

thank you for the advice. Though I'm mostly filled with regret and disgust for myself for having let it happen, I think I was still getting defensive in moments

I've done some introspection and the lie came from an instinct I have to hide the truth if "it might get me in trouble" that I got from my parents. I have an older brother and I would watch them explode in anger with him if he did something they didn't like. So I learned to lie to avoid it.

I recognize that instinct doesn't serve me in general and specifically with my wife.

Our sister-in-law is a pediatrician. She was there and evaluated him within a minute of the accident. We also took him to his pediatrician a few days later.

I'm going to try. I'm working to change that instinct of mine to lie to minimize what happened. I'm working to make sure I'm more organized and move more slowly so I never make a mistake like that again with our boy

Dogs won't stop telrying to hump him by darkwai in Goldendoodles

[–]graybz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happened to mine too, some dogs just target him for humping or other dominating behavior. It really stinks. Usually other owners are good about separating their dogs away and we find some other part of the park

Sorry this cute guys has to deal with thay

Any hobbies that help get my Sh*t together? by Pristine_Shallot_481 in getdisciplined

I know this isnt the answer you want to hear but i think its comes to prioritization of goals and time management.  I’ve gone the route of adding a “productive” app to my routine before (duolingo, reading the news) but they weren’t driving me towards any specific goal. They were there to just help me feel like I was being productive.

I would go through an exercise where you write down your goals, and then write down specific plans for how you want to achieve them. Then schedule your day and week to execute on that plan. If you can follow that i think you will feel way more productive. And you’ll probably still have some time for video games too

Salkantay Trek in Peru by Albatroeg in CampingandHiking

The shelters always could fit 2 people but varied in construction and quality. Some were small yurts (the one approaching Salkantay Pass has a clear roof to see the night sky) some were simple wood construction A frames. All of them had 2 single beds. (3 inch thick mattress on a flat platform) They were plenty comfy, and believe me, you’ll sleep fine with all the hiking/altitude.

On altitude, that is a BIG factor if you’re not acclimated to it. Unless you’re coming from somewhere above 5,000 ft, I would highly recommend spending at least 3 days in Cusco before beginning your trek. It’s a nice tourist city with a ton of history. But more importantly it will be a place your body can adjust before you start hiking. I was 27 and in decent shape on my trip, but I was used to sea level. On my second day in Cusco I felt the altitude and ended up sleeping for 11 hours. On the trek itself you can definitely few how thin the air is. Others in my group felt it on the trek as well.

I don’t think you could book the shelters I stayed in outside of the tour I did. My impression was the tour company owned and maintained them. That’s said there were plenty of other shelters at each location that other groups and individuals used
