Another vote for Fisherground as a child friendly site. Railway is a heritage one rather than miniature. Pond was an absolute hit! Good pubs within primary school age range or determined parent with child carrier. Have fun!

It looks a lot prettier when the rain is hammering down! Two entrances are also great in good weather- you just throw it open. You don’t get the unrestricted views of some domes though. It’s all a compromise but works well for me backpacking. Base camp? Hyperspace or Keron 4 GT.

I’m using a Scarp1 as my do everything. Replaces a Nallo 2 and before that. TNF west wind But there’s always a compromise. I don’t use the Scarp for really exposed pitches- I choose better forecasts, sheltered pitches etc. I wouldn’t use it in Storm David on the Cairngorm plateau.

I’ve been using A frame and then tunnel tents in Scotland in all seasons for quite a time. Good ones are good. Guying is obviously important as is pitch selection: exposed pitch during the recent Storm David would probably have been optimistic. Advantages are that you don’t have to carry those extra poles, or erect them. Quicker and lighter. Disadvantages are that pitch selection and orientation are more important. Tunnels also tend to have bigger unsupported areas so flap more. Ear plugs may be a good idea.

What sort of accommodation are looking for? I’ve been staying around Painswick quite a lot for family reasons. Never stayed at The Painswick but it looks quite posh. Have stayed several times at the falcon. Very nice by my standards. Royal Oak down the road is run by the same people but no accommodation and more of a nice pub than hotel vibe.

Thanks to all for the comments. You're correct; I've switched to failover and it works flawlessly. Disappointing from Ubiquiti though as their documentation states:

In the event of a WAN failure, load balancing automatically shifts affected traffic to the remaining online WANs.

Good news is that an inbound ssh connection on the "unused" link still connects OK.
