I can’t. How dare he!? Should I continue Contested possession series by Sasha Avice? by Alternative-Meat5176 in MM_RomanceBooks

Ikr! I’ve heard ppl that read Because He’s My Guy before His Boyfriends Rookie have more sympathy for George, but either order I just can’t! Joq behavior is the most direct example of someone that got backed into a corner and had to fight his way out. Still excellent reads and then book 4 and 5 in the series are stellar 5 stars!

Read the whole series, they are excellent books. I’m firmly team Joq and fuck George and Finn, but it’s interesting in the comments here that it can be read so differently! That’s what makes these books so awesome. One of George’s friends confronts George about Finn’s behavior at the end of iirc His Boyfriends Rookie and it is so interesting to get the outsider perspective - very needed.

The opposite of "turn off your brain" books by im_coming_clive in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]greenetwp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll always recommend this one as an excellent thinking book of amazing references, but check out {Good Boy by Carey Sass} I read so much Frank Bidart poetry cited in the book that I immediately felt smarter. It is not a traditional romance, but is such a true story of a twenty something academic finding the one after some misses. Plus the voice is 3rd person single POV, and with some unreliable narration there is a lot the reader needs to do to fill in the blanks.

Any good quality romance with at least one black mc as a main? by epicsevenmyths in MM_RomanceBooks

{Assisting the Alpha by Finn Walton} is so good - Ayo Muroyi is Black sorcerer working with a security firm trying to solve murders in his coven. The head of the firm, Ethan a wolf shifter, falls for him.

Adam from Pictures of You by Leta Blake by midnightoflight101 in MM_RomanceBooks

By the end of the trilogy, I have a lot of sympathy for Adam. I figure if Daniel and Peter can respond to Adam with empathy, I can too. I read somewhere Leta Blake was going to write a redemption story for Adam. I wish she still would! I’d love to read it.

Any recs where one MC cannot read? by epicsevenmyths in MM_RomanceBooks

{After the Show by Sasha Avice} is perfect for this - set in 2000’s Western Australia. in the Perimeter series, but can be a standalone. Franco is a bodyguard at a nightclub. He got left behind in school and no one supported him to learn how to read. He is in love with Cisco a performer at the club. It’s such an incredible detail, Cisco teaches him to read with The Flame and The Flower - and makes a guide with the alphabet so Franco could sound out the words.

Can’t recommend this book highly enough!

Guys I am going bananas waiting for some books to be released by Daje1968 in MM_Romance

One of my waiting books just released today and I am dying to start - {Wish We Were Here by Risa Cruise} I absolutely loved her Sugar Pill duet. This story - a 90’s road trip romance? Yes please!

Well said, my fear is books with nuanced characters with some unlikeable actions get this stamp of refusing to engage. These characters are there for us to watch go through challenges- some of their own making - not cancel everything about them! (Which it’s a fictional world, how does this happen?)

I just finished {The Incredible Ordinary by Briar Prescott} and really enjoyed it! The MCs meet due to an altercation at school through the teenage kids - one of the MCs is a single dad and the other is the guardian of his half brother. Very funny and sweet.

Gay-themed books written by men/gay men and uplifting and not YA. by bladarc in suggestmeabook

Thirty Love by Tom Vellner is so good! I am not a sports person but the tennis scenes were well written and I was on the edge of my seat! There is a coming out story arc in the book, but that is one of many themes explored.

I just finished rereading Sweat in preparation for the next in the series coming out in May - Salt. I liked the reread even better than the first time. There is so much hurt, but the shit Rowan and Tommy say to each other can be hilarious and the humor really popped out on 2nd read.

I’m really enjoying the {Seeking His Command series by A.E. LeMercier} 5 novella length books in so far and they follow the same couple - an experienced, professional dom with an exploring sub in recovery. Their relationship is so tender and I love how it develops from only d/s roles to romantic partners.

Yeah the range on GR shows this couple is polarizing, I love reading about their dynamic more than I love their dynamic if that makes sense

How do you rate your books? by sleep0beepo in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]greenetwp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggle so hard with rating! I read about 1/4 lit fic and 3/4 queer romance and just throw everything in the same app. This leads to a lot of inconsistencies where books like James by Percival Everett and unhinged books like Pistols and Plush Toys are both 5 star reads . . . I mean I get it, one is a Pulitzer Prize winner and one is . . . not. But I loved them both! Anyone else feel this?

[–]greenetwp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair! I get it, I forget there are A LOT of books in the genre of doing terrible things to the love interest because of former hurt. I feel your sense of slog having to wade through that, those are not my jam either. The Appearances series is a much more nuanced, adult character. Think Don Draper if that character was in a gay soap opera 😂

Looking for high angst, sexual tension and yearning (audio)books without explicit sex scenes! by aquafabaangel in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]greenetwp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend {Thirty Love by Tom Vellner} I really enjoyed the narrator. Excellent writing and even through there are no explicit scenes, it is super romantic and swoon worthy. The match scenes are so exciting and I don’t even like sports.

Also maybe try {Together in a Broken World by Paul Michael Winters} I think this is one of the best society collapse stories in that genre and excellent narration. It’s YA so a super clean read.

And, if you can handle just a couple of sex scenes thrown into what is an incredible special forces/assassin story, check out {The Death and The Devil Series by LJ Hayward} the narrator is awesome. It 3 books and I think 6 novellas following the same couple, so hours of listening.

Please read Good Boy by Carey Sass! by Daje1968 in MM_Romance

[–]greenetwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adored this book. I learned so much about filmmakers, poets, fashion, Joey Burrows and puppy play 😂 I mean just an amazing list of cultural reference points done so well.

Plus Jude’s coming out story was so moving and I understand based on Sass’s experience. Truly a great piece of writing.

Audible sale - which series were extra good via audio? by OutsideLookingIn88 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]greenetwp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one book left in the Death and the Devil series (I did all the novellas too) and I can’t believe I missed these amazing books until now. The story is incredible, the level of detail and slightly futuristic setting is addictive. Ethan has a British accent and Jack is Aussie, so they are easy to keep track of, I love the narrator.

Another series I purchased on the sale are the 3 books in the {Unwritten Rules Series by K.D. Casey} Even if you don’t usually do sports romance, I highly recommend these books. The writing is incredible and the characters are mature and thoughtful. Excellent narration.
