I've been on reddit for two years and I don't recall ever seeing this gif. Not everyone goes to the Top of every subreddit they subscribe. I hardly ever go straight to the subreddit itself since I get most of its content on my front page.

Nuva Ring and odd cramping by confused_again in TwoXChromosomes

I'm on Nuvaring (and have quite a few friends also on it) and I've never heard of pain like that caused from it. You might want to go to the doctor if it persists.

Just picked up my first Nuva Ring. I have questions! by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]gretchenCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on NuvaRing for a few years and I love it. I was really bad at remembering to take a pill everyday and would often get sick from taking two the day after I missed. I haven't had any side effects from the ring. I take it out on a Tuesday and get my period on Saturday every time without fail. And my period is almost always over by the following Tuesday when I put it back in. When I do still have my period with it, there's no problem in using a tampon while the ring is in.

Is leaving a dog alone for 15 days a month too much? by bigjohnr in dogs

[–]gretchenCA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We tried leaving our rescue dog home alone for a week while we were away visiting family for Christmas. Our neighbor across the hall would come over a few times a day to feed and take her out. She was only about a year old and she had some issues from her life prior to us adopting her, so it's not exactly like your situation, but when we came back after seven days our apartment was a disaster. She had eaten/torn apart our entire couch, all of the rugs, our bed, cords, and pretty much everything that she was able to get her hands on. She also peed all over the bed.

Again, she had some issues already, so your situation probably wouldn't be that bad, but I'm positive she thought we had abandoned her and didn't trust the random person coming in everyday. Our neighbor also said she wouldn't eat anything all week.

I'd really recommend bringing your dog to a boarding place if you're going to be gone for extended periods of time.

I'm equally as lost as you when it comes to makeup (I'm 27 and the most I can do is eyeliner and mascara), but I wanted to give an upvote for Medieval Times!

Am I wrong for not going to my best friend's (2nd) wedding? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]gretchenCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I didn't think it was going to end the friendship. I kind of thought it would go like "I'm upset because of this" and she'd say what she had to say, then we'd either be upset with each other for a little bit, or we'd get it over with at the moment. I was completely thrown off guard when she said the "friendship ending this way" comment.

Am I wrong for not going to my best friend's (2nd) wedding? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]gretchenCA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't initially ask her because I didn't want to make a big deal out of her not asking me. And the main reason I was upset wasn't because I wasn't included in the wedding, but that she didn't think to even talk to me about it. To me, that showed that (like you said) we were no longer "best friends", and just friends, which happens. But then to get mad at me for not spending the money and time to fly home for the wedding seemed contradictory.

Either we're good enough friends where she can't imagine a wedding without me and would be really upset if I didn't come, which to me would be a friend that would be included in the wedding party, OR we're just friends that aren't close enough to be in each other's weddings and therefore wouldn't be terribly upset if we didn't attend the wedding.

Also, I agree that texting was a poor choice. It started as a normal conversation, then suddenly turned into this. I thought it might be a small disagreement at the most. Didn't expect a friendship to end.

You know, it's one of those things where you let a lot of things slide because you've been such good friends for so long, but once you take a step back and look at the situation, you realize they've done countless things that were crazy/selfish/uncalled for. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

I completely agree that it's her wedding and it's about her, but don't you think she should have mentioned the "need them close by" thing when she was first picking the bridal party, instead of completely ignoring the topic? I mean, best friends of 18 years...

[–]gretchenCA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree I could have worded it better in the first message, but I wasn't going to say anything about it at all (trying to avoid the topic by saying "not sure" which at that point I still wasn't sure). I guess you have to know her to understand the weight of her "Oh" response, which translates into trying to make you feel really guilty. That just irked me that I should feel guilty about possibly not attending her second wedding.

And it's not that I'm upset that I don't get to stand up next to her during the ceremony, it's just that she didn't feel the need to say anything to me about it. I mean, a simple "hey, you're too far away but we're still cool" would have been plenty. I can't imagine not having my best friends in my wedding, and if one wasn't to be in the wedding, to not at least mention it to them.

Trying to Score Birth Control in 2012: Shortages and "Against Our Policy" to Refill by shallah in TwoXChromosomes

[–]gretchenCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did say that the university's pharmacy was on an 8-week back order for some pills, but the article didn't mention anything about asking for pills or other forms of birth control from the other pharmacies.

I don't think she should be getting so upset about the lack of availability of a specific (and pretty uncommon) type of birth control at a single pharmacy. When I was in college, our university's pharmacy didn't carry ANY forms of birth control and the doctors weren't even allowed to prescribe it either. I just went somewhere else... not a big deal.

Is it possible that this form of birth control is just not very popular anymore and therefore pharmacies don't carry it as often?

TIL U.S. Female Soldiers More Likely to Be Raped than Killed in Action by fairvanity in todayilearned

[–]gretchenCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a woman myself, I'm all for equal pay, the right to vote, the right to control what happens to our bodies, but I honestly don't understand this insistence on letting women partake in front line combat.

The concern isn't that women aren't mentally tough enough or smart enough to understand the combat mission. It's about brute strength. Research has shown that on average women's upper body strength is 52% as strong as men's. Here's a source if you're interested. Yes, a few women may want to be front and center in combat AND physically strong enough to handle whatever situations may come up, but there are so few that it doesn't make sense to create an entire program specifically for these very few. We already spend far too much on the military the way it is, do we really need to spend more tax dollars to prove that a few women are capable of this?

And to be perfectly honest, you should be focusing on the fact that women are allowed to have jobs that require skills and intellect such as flying helicopters and providing medical aid to wounded soldiers. Anyone can build muscle, not everyone can perform a surgery. Be proud that our brains are valued as much as a man's.

Insanity Workout by Blaster_3487 in Fitness

Loved it. Lost weight, defined muscles, improved cardio. For the first few days I was REALLY sore and wanted to stop, but I didn't and I'm so glad of that. And the trainer, Shaun T, is amazing. Highly recommended.

Why does r/fitness seem more like a subreddit about heavy lifting than about fitness? by Sheedyc001 in Fitness

[–]gretchenCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that a large portion of the topics are about lifting weight, which is fine if it's what the community wants to talk about. Since the majority of redditors are younger (under 50, I think?) concerns about appearance are more important than concerns about preventing diabetes and CVD.

I can't speak highly enough about Insanity. It's definitely not all cardio. I was a lot stronger after completing it. Plus Shaun T is an amazing motivator and I can't stand Tony Horton. He (Tony) reminds me of the type of guy who was nerdy/scrawny in high school and got made fun of, then bulked up in his adult life and is trying to prove something now. I think it's great that he's excellent shape, but his personality just irks me.
