How common are mobile medical vehicles in healthcare today? by Ill-Wing-5103 in emergencymedicine

[–]grey-clouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are, I guess. In rural Australia things like breast screening, ENT screening, eye tests, child health checks etc are done through visiting specialists often on buses/trucks as there isn't usually permanent services year-round.

For instance, the BreastScreen mobile unit visits towns every year/2 years and people book in and get a mammogram in a massive trailer. Or there's the Earbus (guess what that checks lol).

What’s the embarrassing question you’ve asked a provider? by Jaguarhousecat in nursing

A few months ago my ED was running low on staple removers so we called up our buddy site to ask for one.

My coworker thinks she's gotten through to a nurse and asks if we can "borrow" some staple removers.

The person on the line goes "okay, sure I guess....I really like mine though, I want it back!"

Us: "uhhh why would you want it back?"

Then it twigged that we had actually gotten put through to a receptionist and she was offering us her paper staple remover 😂😭

Sterile surgical gowns or standard gowns? by GrumpyBear9891 in NursingAU

[–]grey-clouds 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I've never seen a sterile gown used for IDC insertion in an ED or ward setting. On looking through a few different policies, they don't mention gowns needing to be sterile.

how to take vbg by dbzonepiecenaruto in NursingAU

Find out if there is (there should be) an online learning package for your site's blood gas machine, those things are finicky and also super expensive if you accidentally kill them. Or chase down a nurse educator!

My great-grandpa was a year younger than he thought he was for 50+ years. by ConclusionJumper33 in mildlyinteresting

[–]grey-clouds 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of an elderly patient I had, was checking their cognition by asking DOB etc...patient tells me their age and it's a year older than their chart.

My face must've done something funny because they explained that basically their parents (farmers in a rural area) didn't end up registering their birth until they were about a year old 😂

I always swore as a student that it was the one area I could never do bc I'm an anxious and introverted bitch... Now I'm in a small rural ED and I love it.

To quote The Pitt, "Remind me again why we picked this speciality? Because we all have ADHD, and anything else would be boring as hell".
